Ecological themes are pervasive in Video games , from the Shinto ethos of Ocarina of time to the subversive ethic of final fantasy 7. In fact, nature might be where play itself finds its expression, as we learned about the world around us surrounded by Gaia. Natural landscapes and environmental stewardship permeates much of the mythology of games, and these motifs resonate with gamers around the world. However, there is also a contradiction. Video games are part of a technology driven culture that often preys on nature itself. How do we resolve this divide, and can Video games be a powerful force of ecological awareness both in their mechanics and themes?
