@58:20 I agree, problems simply don’t stop at the border. What happens or does NOT happen afterwards matters even more! However, Doomberg is right arguing that official border checks are a “theatre” to give voters the impression that borders are under tight control.
I appreciate your moderating comments saying that you do not agree that WW3 has begun just yet, and neither to regard the supply of chemical precursors for drugs as an act of war. Yes, those are profound problems, but not a full out war (yet?).
Yes and no. I agree that our current situation does not appear (yet) to be a full-on war, although Doomberg has a point that several aggressive hybrid war activities are ongoing (Russian cyber attacks, undersea cable damage, Chinese supplies of fentanyl precursors, spy balloons etc.), which could be retroactively viewed as a Causus Belli at any point. The actual START of a war is never as clear as the dates that you learn in history make it appear. Each war normally starts with a bunch of different stressors on the situation, gradually escalates into skirmishes and then larger battles, and at some point, it is clear that the involved parties are in a war. LATER on, historians may try to describe it a bit more neatly for propaganda and education purposes, and try to assign a start date. Doomberg's view is that we may already be in the prelude to, or perhaps opening stages of, one or more major wars - and perhaps even a conflict large enough to become WW3, given the size of some of the (possible) combatant countries (Russia, China, USA, Europe, etc.). We won't know either way until years from now - assuming we survive of course. World War 1 is a useful example. Austrian Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated in June 1914 - which sparked a burning fuse leading to a very explosive powderkeg. Nothing much happened anywhere in Europe in July, and NOONE expected any major war - perhaps only yet another small local conflict in the Balkans which would end quickly, just like a couple that had happened in 1912 and 1913. And then it all went pear-shaped very suddenly in mid-August of 1914. Doomberg is pointing out that we have metaphorical sparks all over the place at the moment, which could be just the opening phase of a larger, bloodier conflict. There's no way of knowing yet how it will turn out though, and the US and EU have certainly tried their best to avoid the Ukraine conflict escalate too much in the first two years of the current Russian invasion. (The problem there is that Russia is quite insistent on continuing to escalate.) I get the sense that France and various eastern European countries are becoming more hawkish, since their previous policies have not persuaded Russia to withdraw from Ukraine. On top of that, the Middle Eastern situation has its own chaotic dynamics, beyond anyone's ability to try "manage".
@@davidbarry6900good historical world war 1 references, till you got to “US and Europe trying to avoid a war” and that alluded to Russia was the antagonist, it’s actually the reverse, the reason why Russia invaded Ukraine was because the US set up a base in Ukraine directed at Russia and pushing for Ukraine to join NATO which is why this war occurred, and funding the Ukraine with money just is prolonging the inevitable loss of lives at higher Ukraine casualties. Not to mention USA contributed to the Russia concert terrorists attack.
The thing with China and the US is that we are so interdependent on each other. China is unable to function without US consumption. The US economy is unable to function without Chinese labor.
Soviet union had actually partnered Germany in carving up east europe and Poland. Ww2 started earlier to Japanese military attack on China. It started when Germany was wasted after WW1 treaty (sanctions anyone ) and US started becoming more powerful than British Empire and the old colonial powers realised theu had missed the bus forever as the new hegemon was rising. Japan wanted resources and compete with the west.
@Doomy - I would argue that The Fed raising rates DID break things. The bank failures of March 2023, the BTFP and the Treasury running down the TGA were all examples of this breakage as I understand it. For a clearer explanation of the how's and why's listen to Luke Gronen's explanations. (BTW - a recent guest on the Grant Williams podcast)
Those banks were enemy banks. They were executed by the Fed, and then absorbed into the New York Fed. Yellen is a traitor, and that guides the Dept of Treasury. We have 4000 banks. Some will be enemies and some will be poorly managed. Most are really good.
You are correct in those details. I think Doomberg's assessment is based on the larger picture, in which the USA economy manifestly kept going strong, at least by most conventional economic measures.
How are 9/11 terrorists tied to border control? My understanding is that they were here on visas legally. In addition, it’s worth noting that movement back and forth across the southern border was at one time common and unrestricted. Criminalizing migration is a relatively new concept.
Just use any realistic measure of inflation, like for instance the cape shiller home price index and you'll see that the US has been in a recession for nearly 10 years of the last 20 years. this is a result of scare energy!
labelling WW3 or not is a near useless initiative when you think about it?… How is that helping us? Versus dedicating our time 100% into forecasting and planning for whatever comes
Any living thing... there are more of them when there's more of the resources they need. Population goes up, spreads, etc. If you remove those resources/energy... that population will shrink. This is Japan, and others.
Well USA had all the goodies but had the Great Depression due to some severely bad policies by governments As Obama said don’t underestimate Joes ability to “mess” up. I used the word mess his word was impolite
Russia has complete dominance of the air? That’s news to me; this conflict has been an arty duel since the initial push was repelled because neither side can gain air superiority over the front, which generally seen as a prerequisite for combined arms maneuver warfare. The lack of air superiority is why both sides are currently dug in.. if Russia had air superiority and still couldn’t achieve a breakout that’d be historically embarrassing
The death toll is much higher for Ukraine. They have conscripted men and women in their 40s which would indicate or imply the pool of 20-40 year old has been exhausted.
