We give you strategies for financial security, practical answers to questions like “how to grow my investments?”, and effective solutions for wealth building tailored to 'regular' investors just like you.
There’s no doubt that it's a very challenging time right now for the average investor. Above and beyond the recent economic impacts of COVID, the new era of record low-interest rates, runaway US debt and US deficits, and trillions of dollars in monetary and fiscal stimulus has changed the rules of investing by dangerously distorting the Dow index, the S&P 500, and nearly all other asset prices. Can prices keep rising, or is there a painful reckoning ahead?
Let us help you prepare your portfolio just in case the future brings one or more of the following: inflation, deflation, a bull market, a bear market, a market correction, a stock market crash, a real estate bubble, a real estate crash, an economic boom, a recession, a depression, or another global financial crisis.

It's crazy how passive investing and all this leverage from bank loans can create false signals, Lately, as I've observed these trends, I find myself rethinking $2m in ETFs alone. The risk of sudden corrections is something I can't ignore anymore

As commercial banks face more challenges what then happens to the leverage of passive funds? Since I have an actively managed account I'm not worried, my fund manager scaled my account from 200 to 900k in 5 months with nvda,meta, rcl.

Well I sure hope you can get this man back soon. I have not seen him before, but what a stream of gems coming out of his mouth. Talk about easy to comprehend. The part toward the end about money blindly entering the markets through 401Ks and inflating. Conversely, we have boomers retiring and extracting money and could easily overwhelm the system. I thought of something like a bank run. What if boomers started to get scared of losing their nest eggs due to some geopolitical events and trying to get their money out of their retirement accounts? Look out below when a bunch of people head for the exits at once. Great interview. I always appreciate how you let the guests finish their thoughts.

The vast majority of "Active" managers that charge to manage your money for you do not beat the market average so they have to be very good at making arguments that you should not be passive investor and turn your money over to them. More and more people are learning the truth not to give so much of their earning over to a money manager. Once you account for taxes and inflation they could be getting more than you. Definitely true if the market is flat or goes down.

It took 1.55 in government spending and 2.55 in debt to get $1 of gdp. We've decided that our best option right now is moving abroad to remain within the parameters of our investments. Underemployment for us (62 & 56 years of age) means we already need to tap retirement funds just to keep our heads above water in the US. Might as well go to another country where we can live better while spending less. Not to mention life is far more interesting. The US will have to seriously correct prices and wages before I will consider coming back.

Not every person want to own a house. I do not if there is actually a good for this but what should U.S. do about it debt and defeit? What I fear is that congress will raise the taxes and low ss payout to precent and future retirees to keep the fund going. also if the governed reduce Medicare and medicare funding that will be the end to medical care for the bulk of retiree and disabled. This at a time where the rate of medical visits and dementia will skyrocket. Most of the dementia case will lead to the kids taking care of their parents because it cost to much to go into long term care.

Started out pretty reasonable and got odd quickly. So nVidia stock went up, should they pay taxes because of that? What if it goes down? Do they get a refund? That is not how it works. So should they just pay more taxes? You know, to cover the government give aways? You can tax businesses, but they don't bill the owners for the tax, they pass taxes on in prices and we consumers pay the taxes. Welcome to the real world.

You missed the point. Passive investing has destroyed the market and made it delink from reality. It has changed the market from a leading indicator to a lagging indicator. It has changed it from one seeking to best allocate capital to one responding to mindless contributions. Yes, staying in the market works great while interest rates are falling (1981-2022). Using that as a historical basis, when the underlying conditions are different, is a false proposition. Good luck.

@GregTGolden
@GregTGolden 7 месяцев назад
Pros and cons to everything. I would say for the most part its better just to buy the market. But there are times when you are better to have an active manager (before a crash or boom). I dont think Mike is advocating against passive investing, simply pointing out the downsides (loss of pricing signals, greater oscillations in the boom/bust of the cycle, etc). I personally would rather deal with my own investments. No way would I want to be buying into the SP500 when the top 7 make up the majority of the market. There are plenty of good businesses out there to buy into without just buying the overpriced market.

Advisors are trying to convince investors to be traders. I refuse. I buy and hold stocks that pay me to hold them. Those dividends are a stable source of gains while the upward price gains after market gyrations are factored out provide the rest. I disagree with his assessment on "high" interest rates and who benefits the most or least from that, granted he did not elaborate; he only implied. High interest rates are good for the middle and lower class, and not good for the upper class and corporations. Middle and lower class are disincentivized to make risky and speculate bets on assets, which is a losing game for them no matter what the interest rates are. Middle and lower class are incentivized to be savers, which history has proven is the best path to natural, organic wealth creation for these groups. Yes, there will always be gambling addicts, and gambling addicts lose the game no matter what the interest rates are. Wealthy individuals and corporations do not do well in high interest rate environments. Yes, their cash earns the risk free rate, but that is far less than what they make in low interest rate environments on business operations, asset value increase, etc. Eventually if interest rates are held high enough for long enough it will push down asset prices and effectively de-risk them so that the middle and lower class have a chance to buy them for reasonable valuations thus seeding investments that actually have a chance to pay off one day.

I agree. I'm a factory worker and basically lower middle class in most ways. My friends and family don't have enough stocks or real estate to compensate for higher food prices, rents, insurance, ect. I am far more advanced in knowledge of investing and economics compared to average people of even much higher income levels though. What would benefit me greatly and at least help my coworkers, friends, family, ect. would be a deflationary crash. Houses are out of reach for most people now and stock valuations are ridiculous. I've trimmed down to 20% of my liquid net worth being in my 401K's SP500 fund ATM. If we got an 2008 class crash I'd be retired after even a modest recovery from that. As it is now I have to worry about an ever increasingly unbuyable and dangerous bubble in stocks and soaring inflation on the things that I simply must buy to live. My non 401K investments are simply "T-bill N' Chill" ATM. (shorting or buying PUTS is dangerous because this market is being supported not only by passive funds, but by a government and fed that is doing every trick in the book to prop the markets up)

Been waiting for this fomo pumped stock and housing market to blow up. I'll keep patiently waiting while buying deep value and incrementally shorting fomo overpriced stocks. Lazy index investing has been great in the last 14 years, but I agree with Mike that it will end badly. Same with overpriced homes. The complacency by most is astounding.

Mike had some great comments on passive investing and how it is impacting the markets but I cant help but think of Warren Buffett and how he is always recommending to investors to just buy the S&P ETF.

Remember, companies won't pay taxes; we, the consumers, pay for most of their taxes. Yeah, but how much of that margin is reinvested into the company? An improper forecast can happen in any market or for any company.

I've been thinking it's a way to attract and pull liquidity out of the system. Now will that Bitcoin liquidity eventually evaporate? We will see.

So we have a spectrum consisting of Passive, Algorithmic, and Active Investments? Not quite clear to me how buying an index fund is not passive investing.
@john-tr8jy
@john-tr8jy 7 месяцев назад
is this dichotomy a function of trading activity following an index investment or is it based on a differentiated opinion vs. the index? Also from the end investor's perspective, isn't an index fund simply a passive investment regardless of corresponding trading activity?
@no_more_spamplease5121
@no_more_spamplease5121 6 месяцев назад
Buying an index fund is not actually a passive investment because the fund has to trade in the market in order to buy shares. Guess what happens when billions of dollars enter the stock market every day. Is there liquidity for that? Thus, the consequence is irrational exuberance (price bubble).
@john-tr8jy
@john-tr8jy 6 месяцев назад
@@no_more_spamplease5121 Yes, but you are simply talking about trading activity which is inevitable for any public fund once contributions are made. Your response did not clarify anything.

Mr. Green is extremely intelligent, especially with regard to economics, investing, and banking. I venture to say that he is underpaid (not knowing, of course, that he might already be earning a 7-figure salary!
