I still think self driving, rob-taxis etc are dangerous, relying on patten recognition and pre-programmed algorithms may be AI but it's not and nowhere near human I. Two experiences in my driving life, a car being chased by the police on the opposite side of the highway crashing over the central reservation in front of me and a lorry shedding it's load of scaffolding poles in front of me at 70mph, sure the probability of these events happening is 0.01% but can AI watch the opposite side of the highway or realize a load is breaking loose, this stuff happens and if I were relying on AI from passing my driving test, I'd be dead as a dodo for sure by now.

How can we turn this into constructive criticism, perhaps the sensory input technology on robot taxes should have the ability to see and hear as well as humans can, so threats can be assessed from a greater distance. Now that I've read your stories, little clips from disaster movies are playing in my mind's eye when I think of this.

checkout the event on San Francisco this week about an ilegal tow truck event…next to that event unfolding there was a Waymo autonomous car… this thing resolved that tricky event and was able to pull away and at the same time unblocking the flow of others cars in that centric street…impressive

@@DaxVJacobson problem is that people do not understand how AI works. The most basic "ai" is learning the size of an object, and putting a label on it. For example, a object that is 1x1 meter is a tree. a object that is 2x1 meter is a car. and so on. Then when the AI see a object that is 1.5x1 meter, and AI has never seen something like that before, this is when it starts to "hallucinate", cause it will either chose the 1x1 or 2x1 object, and think its that. Now size is just one parameter, most modern models have like millions of parameters and is more advanced than I wrote here, but its no "intelligence" in reality., it just seems intelligent.

Don’t be fooled. EVs are play things for the rich. In the USA, the average EV price is $55,353 according to Edmunds Jan 2024. This is beyond the reach of the average Americans. This speaker is out of touch with the average consumer. Taking into account the volume weighted average price, Statista expects that the Electric Vehicles market in New Zealand will have an average price of NZD US$75.8k in 2024. This is probably well beyond the reach of average Kiwi. This reinforces that these vehicles are play things for the rich which goes counter to what was said in this video.
