Mike congrats on the new video. I really enjoyed the interviews. There is something wholesome about folks sharing their dreams about everyday living and not the ownership of stuff.
Thanks so much, Rob Vann. I feel the the same way. In my opinion, chasing stuff crushes our potential to make the world a better place. I wish you the very best!
I agree, Rob. That's what I'm interested in too. I joke about Discovery calling because network programming has to move product for advertisers. The frugal, minimalist crowd isn't known for irrational shopping.
Thanks Michael, i find your documentaries very interesting and really inspiring and im sure like me they make others look at there lives and maybe decide what's really important. I look forward to your next one, Regards Danny
Thank you very much, dannyscoot73. I'm trying to figure out those things for myself as I often feel trapped in the grind of the mainstream. I wish you the very best!
Thanks, Michael, for a terrific experience working with you on this documentary. I enjoyed meeting you and the video interviewing experience was great. Your editing and selection of the content was excellent and you depicted me, my lifestyle and my philosophies very accurately. Bravo and Kudos! And, if anyone wants to contact me, please do so through my blog where my contact info is located at 2livefreely.com
Good life style, my concern would be when were older and cant get around like we use to then what, a bungalow small house would be nice so i w9uld not have a need for a nursing home, id rather be dead than confined in a nursing home. Only 40 now but i do have a home at the moment but i sure like the idea of getting away from a rat race licestyle.
I think a small house or even a tiny house would be a reasonable option for someone who is unable to travel. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Best wishes to you!
Michael Tubbs "The greatest invention since the tree" LMAO!! Thanks for the info. I couldn't figure out what he was saying. Also, thanks for the uploads. I truly appreciate them!
To be honest, from all I've seen on RU-vid I would love to be a permanent Van Dweller. However, I could not tolerate a home without a separate toilet/shower, black water, gray water, and fresh water tank.
Um... is it just me or do two 100 watt solar panels seem a bit... like John isn't going to have enough power? It's an awesome project, my jaw literally dropped as he was explaining it all, but I don't think it'll be enough power.
I agree that 200 watts may be borderline, as will the 225 amp hours of batteries, but these are name brand panels (AM Solar), so when they are mounted, provision will be made for adding a third one if we find these are insufficient. The nice thing about any solar setup is that it is easily expanded (or retracted) as one gains real life experience with how it works. Calculations are great for getting "in the ball park", but only the actual usage will tell you for sure. There are just too many variables to ever be 100% accurate using figures. Thanks to Michael for alerting me of the comment, and I hope you will follow my blog at Incargonito.blogspot.com to learn more. We are hoping to get the solar panels early next month, since our first attempt was delayed.
All fine and well, but even nomads need cash. What if your R.V. is totaled or if your motor needs to be rebuilt? A middle course might be preferable: Live below your means.
Doug Malone That happened to me, Doug. After I left John and Sharon's place and headed west I blew my engine on I-5 at the Grapevine heading up to the El Tejon Pass from the Central Valley of CA to the LA basin to visit my son in LA. I limped 85 miles at 15 mph on the shoulder to LA. I found a very reputable engine rebuilding shop and they did the job. Yes, it was an unbudgeted expense, but I worked it out and the engine is purring like a brand new machine. Major inconvenience and hung me up at my son's place for way too long. But, like most things, "that too, passed."
The single gentleman does supplemental voiceover work and obviously has SSI and saved money to live on. The couple has SSI, savings, and possibly a pension.
my opinion is the "Fact" You Live & You Die that's life, what you choose in life is yours and should not be anyone else's. Michael Extraordinary work well done wit this Video it really make's us think in Life Choices..
Thanks for the great video, and I see you did add some good keywords in the RU-vid title. I also have added the video to my blog, along with some thoughts that didn't make it into the video, and yes, there will be more photos (and maybe some video of my own) as we progress on the trailer build. If anyone has any questions or comments, please feel free to comment on my blog at incargonito.blogspot.com. Thanks everyone!
I am considering doing something similar. I'm 59. My concern, down the road is having sold the house, and as I age and inevitably become less able - perhaps not be physically able to drive, what is the next plan? Plus, the fear of costly breakdowns or having to replace the camper. I wonder how many people are finding themselves in that position. I'd love to connect with other people `selling out to hit the road and how they envision the future.
TheLeatherChannel Here is my take, just do it while you're still young and can enjoy it. You don't want to waste your life waiting and worrying about when you you are too old and can't do anything to be able to sit all day in your house like a zombi.
Hi Michael, Another wonderful vid from you, thank you ! I really think you have a flare for this documentary filmmaking :-) I thought this film was SO thought provoking about the lifestyle many of us have chosen. Happiness is a choice, as the chap said, and we as fulltime RV dwellers do get a few raised eyebrows from time to time but there is no looking back or regrets for making the shift to a more simplified lifestyle. Thanks again Michael and I look forward to your next film. Cheers ! Janis
Thanks for another video on some interesting folks. I love adventures and adventurous folks and the philospohical ponderings are just what the doctor ordered.
I love the last quote from Ed 23:34 : "There's always going to be people in this world who are far more wealthy than anybody else. And there are going to be people who are poor. But whether you're happy or not is not a matter of whether you are rich or poor. What's going to determine whether you are happy or not is where your mind is at and where your thinking is. And whether you are living the life you choose to live." Excellent job, Michael. Kudos.
I like most of what Ed has to say but I have issue with this part: "You hear people in the news all the time talking about people living under the poverty level and how difficult life is to live under the poverty level and people are suffering so badly. Well, I'm living high on the hog quite frankly. I'm living way under the poverty level" If you/Ed have ALWAYS lived under the poverty level and were not able to generate a retirement income you would not be living so high on the hog. Disparaging the struggles of people that are worse off than you is kind of shitty.
Great video. My wife and I are blessed to be 43 and 39 and we are planning our journey through life "BEING". Our kids are 23,19,16,and 15. We tackled a lot of things very early in life. We didnt plan it, it just happened that way. Now we have much more free time at a young age. I recommend starting NOW if you havent yet.
I know Ed is a polymath, but he’s never told me “Who fitted out the interior of his MacVansion?” Q. Was it all fitted out when you bought it? Q. Did you do the cabinet making yourself? Answer please. Brian Morris in Picton NZ
Michael, I finally got around to viewing "Without Bounds" and a handful of some of your other films. Thank you so much for the information you have offered the community (and the world) about this lifestyle. I truly appreciate your filmmaking style!!! After perusing hundreds of videos, its so refreshing to fall into a world I can relax in. Subbed and look forward to more. Lauri
Excellent video friend! I’m 8 months full time in my Chevy express cargo van and I love it. Don’t wait to take the leap. Save yourself from your prison. Go for it!
How inspiring. Love the attitudes and philosophy. If only i was 30 years younger and in perfect health. My life would take a different direction for sure.i wasted so much time already.. the best to the three of you...
These inspired me to take my second great journey in the last 6 years spending 3+ months on the road and camping about the country in total this time with wife and 3 kids in a ford explorer. And is much motivation for my inevitable final push to free my own chains. Thanks for sharing it is good stuff. Story and Filming
Noise Organ, you are providing yourself and your entire family with a wealth of great memories. Your courage and faith in creating opportunity is inspiring.
Thank you Michael! For another great video. So glad you are finding such great people to encourage people like me! Today is my day 82 on the road...what an adventure!
John King I don't think Ed has seen this yet, but I will remind him it's here. But from my own studies, foam isn't just foam. There are several grades of it and good mattresses are usually built with multi-density foam, with a firmer core, especially if they have to double as seating. Memory foam is only one type of foam, and even it can be combined with more dense foams as a core, or you can add a thinner 2-inch memory foam topper to a more dense foam mattress. Do you research well, and even try some if possible.
the thing about life is we live in a world of sheeps and followers and everybody wants to be mainstream because everybody wants to be liked where we worship famous people as like gods be yourself Do Your Own Thing that's what I'm doing I live off the grid don't care for the government or the system one live as far away from the system as I can
My dream is to own a small cabin in Hiawassee GA. I would like to have a cargo van converted and travel around 90% of the time, come home and chill for a month or so then continue to travel and continue to do that for the rest of my life. But i'm afraid my dream will never come true.
