Ed Broadbent, the NDP MP for Ottawa Centre, Ont., and former leader of the New Democratic Party, delivers remarks in the House of Commons on May 5, 2005, shortly after announcing his intention to retire from federal politics.
Broadbent was first elected to the House of Commons in 1968 in Oshawa, Ont., and led federal New Democrats from 1975 to 1989. He returned to Parliament from 2004 to 2006, representing Ottawa Centre.
Ed Broadbent died on January 11, 2024, at the age of 87, according to a statement from the Broadbent Institute.
