I asked him what pushed him to do the last 2 reps. He told me Arnold who was only 27 at the time told ed who was around 40) to get serious. Due to the cameras rolling, he got so pissed he did the last 2 squats out of pure anger lol.
It is visible they know each other and don't really spot each other, there are also no locks on the barbell, is comething goes wrong, Corney will throw the barbell down immediately.
"Won moah Eddie! An flex vare you come up." "God-DAMN!" "Yeah" The soundtrack made this scene funnier than it was supposed to be. I love how the music sounds like it's giving out along with Ed Corney with every rep he takes during the end.
WTF! Have you seen Ed's posing routine? Yeah Arnold was a good poser, but he was no match to Corney. Arnold was better bodybuilder, but not better poser.
@@kittyboygamer6912 Oh really? To quote Arnold, in this very movie and the defending Mr. Olympia after seeing Ed Corney posing "Can you believe that? I mean that!.. That's what I call posing." And everyone else who was there were in awe of Corney's posing routine.
Who ever did the squatting, knows how heavy this excercise is. Nothing compares, even deadlifts. I remember my first squatting. I took a looong nap after the training....;)
Squatting is a whole nother beast compared to other lifts. People go ham on bench and deadlifts but when you see someone go ham on squats... that person is dangerous.
1000 years for now people will still be watching this clip when they need motivation to get through a workout... I'm 58 now and have been coming to this clip to stay inspired for 40+ years now. Talk about inspiration. Hard to believe Ed was a diabetic... just shows what you can accomplish no matter what obstacles are in your way. Bodybuilding is the greatest sport in the world. Thank you Ed & Arnold! Ed Corney. R.I.P.
I love how Arnold and Ed are wrecked between sets. That's how true squatting should leave you feeling. Arnold was also one of the taller bodybuilders around, making full squats that much harder.
I remember seeing this exact clip a decade ago when I first started lifting at 13 years old, before i ever even watched Pumping Iron. Nowadays, while squatting i still subconsciously try to match the intensity Ed had in this clip. Just finished a killer leg day and this clip popped up again in my recommended. Thanks for all the inspiration Ed.. RIP
RIP MR ED CORNEY.. A TRUE LEGEND.. ID WATCH THIS AND STILL BEFORE LEGS.. STILL MAKES THE HAIR ON MY NECK STAND UP... JUST HOPE HE'S SAVING ME A SPOT AT THE SQUAT RACK WHEN I GET THERE
The worst part of watching a bunch of videos like these on my tv is my parents think I’m watching some gay porn and my sister has been asking me why I workout so much lol
I know him personally he had no quit definitely one of my heroes The older he got he still was in the gym shuffling his feet around still picking up hunter pound down Bells still giving it hell I always will dedicate my opposite routines to him
I was at the premiere of “Pumping Iron”, and I saw Ed , shook hands with big Louis after he finished posing ! I’m 69 , got some health issues but still pumping iron 😊 please warm up, lift smart , respect your body and those around you!
From what I've read that he wrote back squats we're his main thigh exercise. In all his routines he lists back squats before front squats and does more sets if back squats. According to Joe Gold Armold would do squats until he turned blue.
I've seen guys at the gym who will spot their friends by practically lifting half the weight starting from around rep 1. The way Arnold spots Ed is perfect. He barely uses a few fingers to give him the little help he needs to finish the very last rep.
I just did 315 for 10 for the first time and on the 8th rep I was completely exhausted then I heard Arnold’s voice in my head saying 2 more no matter what and grinded to get the other 2 up
This is by far the most motivating thing to watch before squat day. For anyone who squats, we know and feel every one of those reps. I like how arnold says "let's serious" after 8 reps of 315 lbs. I know 315 squat isn't an incredible squat but for 10 or 11 reps its pretty darn good. That puts their 1 rep max at over 400 lbs
315 squat is way impressive, remember these are pro bodybuilders, who don’t even focus on strength, and they are repping it with ease. But for the average person, even the average gym goer, 315 squat is a huge milestone.
To my fellow lifters out there; you have to understand the crazy volume the guys where doing in these days.. I mean this could've been like the 6th or 8th movement, and maybe set #45 of a #60 sets workout. I know both power and Bodybuilding worlds and it sure gets tough to move even 315 for that amount of sets and reps..
I remember we used to squats on the same weight racks in the video.. the sound that was produced by the weights when you hit the top movement was sweet music to us.. then my bruhh keeps on telling me ' no matter what' puts me up every single time.. thank you for the memories Habib Gym Semporna
Arnold also used a close stance bodybuilding squat that makes the quads work harder. The wider stance allows you to go heavier aka powerlifers, people should keep that in mind.
You could almost feel it, Ed's thighs almost hitting failure on that last rep. Only Arnold standing behind you is going to get you to complete that last one.
