This is one of the rarest of all Lynyrd Skynyrd based DVD's that have ever come out. While Gary and Billy were touring as Lynyrd Skynyrd in 2005, The Saturday Night Special Band, a Skynyrd tribute band from New York, asked Artimus Pyle, Ed King, JoJo Billingsley and Leslie Hawkins to get together and do a series of shows to raise money for UNOS, a charity that helped sponsor organ donning and transplants. This video is a compilation of most of those shows. SNS played several shows in Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia and New York. The band played these shows in 2005 before Ed King's heart transplant. After this series of shows, Gary Rossington asked Artimus, Ed, Leslie and JoJo to join Lynyrd Skynyrd when Skynyrd was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and to perform with them at the induction ceremony. Many members of the SNS band were also invited and attended the induction ceremony and concert. We are also VERY happy to report that Ed's transplant was an amazing success, he is back playing on occasion, and GIBSON just honored him with the ED KING custom shop Les Paul. You can find rave reviews of this band online, especially in one of the Allman Brothers Forums. Unfortunately JoJo passed away a little over a year ago, and our hearts are very saddened. We were honored to have known and exceptionally humbled to play with her, and the other Skynyrd members that Ronnie Van Zant hand picked to be in Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Just a note on this band, Mark Basile (Gibson Les Paul), Eric Tolnes (Fender Strat/Heartfield) and George Festo (Gibson Firebird) have been in numerous Skynyrd tribute bands over the years and formed The Saturday Night Special Band in 2004. The band had also featured Rich Tancredi (Keyboards), Jimmy Gallagher (Guitar), Mike DesRoches (Keyboards in video), Jamie Sepe (Bass in video), John Gallagher (drums), Thane Shearon (frontman in video), and Billy Swaen (frontman). The band disbanded at the end of the concert series in 2005 but has left an impression with Skynyrd fans around the world. We have basically remained friends to this date, and on occasion will get together and play. We really hope you enjoy this, as we only printed 20 actual DVD'd of this show in 2005.
You MUST put on headphones, or crank the volume - you want to hear everything!

He really sounds good here even though he is taking a back seat . He sounded best in the 87' tribute tour . This band here is more authentic than the band that was calling themselves Skynyrd up until Gary passed . That was just a way for Ronnies old wife to cash in . This singer here was much better than Johnny Van . Johnny is real annoying on stage . Not anywhere near his big Bro was . Artimus ,Ed & the Honks more were more Skynyrd than that fake version . I liked Gary , but that was just wrong . Art got screwed . He was best thing they got besides Steve G.

Ed King picked a sweet crystal clean unique sound that was exclusive to only him . The way he incorporated the feedback squelch from the amplifier was a special trick . Sweet Home Alabama feed back picking. That was all Ed King the Original one of a Kind .

They sound good but for me, Ronnie Van Zant WAS Lynyrd Skynyrd. The soft-spoken lyricist who loved to fish, who was a mean whiskey drunk, who loved his family, who had an incredible work ethic and who always remained humble. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. Thanks for creating music with the band that will always be loved! 😍🎵

A few years ago some friends and I went to see Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Westbury Music Fair They played approximately 45 minutes minus a guitar player and I left the show feeling empty. My friends and I were having a cold one in the parking lot when a man approached us. He asked us if we knew who Artimus Pyle was? I answered him with Artimus Pyle use to play drums for Skynyrd. He told us if we wanted to hear more Skynyrd music that a tribute band called The Saturday Night Special Band was playing at the Main Street venue and Artimus was playing with them. My friends and I talked about it and we headed there. We were blown away, this band played Skynyrd better than Skynyrd. They played for nearly three hours, unbelievable. I saw them again when they added Ed King and Jo Jo Billingsley. They sounded great, thank you to the Saturday Night Special Band on making two nights for me very special, thanks to Crawdad who opened for them and were great as well.

WOW i can't believe that even at that date they got most of the original skynyrd to play together it would of been great if all of them would have played together. I listen to the old skynyrd and then listen to the new skynyrd the old was more rock and the new seems to have more country in it. Also they seem to have lost that hunger for it i can't place my finger on what it is they seem to be just missing something. I will say i'm very happy i can at leaST SEE ALL THE OLD VIDEO'S OF SKYNYRD it's sad to see time go by so fast and to realize they are all gone except leslie, rossington, and pyle and thats what's left of the original skynyrd.I guess when you get to your moment in life always remember it and cherish it because in a flash it will be gone and only a memory that will make you smile when you think back.

Does anyone know why they never invited Ed King back,to me he made the most impact on there sound.

@Gerald Dixon CummingsIf Ronnie arose from the grave being the man he was, I believe he would give Gary a hug and Judy a massive kick in her more crooked than a bent corkscrew, name thieving, fraudulent money extorting, posterior.

@@orionband8485 I don't think it was a case of Gary not wanting him back more likely Judy Van Zant not wanting to have him back. But if it wasn't that it would of been more a case of Ed not wanting to rejoin them in a bad for his health and lifestyle kind of way, remember he left the band in 1996 because of congestive heart failure.

I think this is more of what Ronnie would have wanted. For the remaining members to keep on keepin on. I saw Skynard in 2009. You could tell it was more about the money than the music. RIP LYNYRD SKYNYRD

Wow what an excellent band they really nailed free bird at the end yeah Ed King an unbelievable guitar player not many people could touch him, I mean how many people have tried to play that Lynyrd Skynyrd lead and don't even come close and he just nailed it like nothing you must be at least over 65 I'm 60 years old now and then wish I saw this band I love Lynyrd Skynyrd

Ed King the best of the pickers who have ever plucked a string, he puts is own personal touch on the songs, that can't be matched. Artimus Pyle the best drummer of Skynyrd. His talents on the drum can't be matched, and in my opinion, this the Lynyrd Skynyrd I was raised on, my father introduced me to Skynyrd through 8 tracks. I was over a year old when they crashed. But with that said, this band captures the essence of the original band. RIP Ed King.

erm how can you say that if you never saw them? I saw Ronnie's Skynyrd 3 times in the UK and I have to say this nor any other line up does not capture the essence of the original band.

They sound much closer to LS original sound than the current group who self title them as LS. Love Saturday night band!!

I like how the other 3 guitarist play the similar guitars of the originals. Gibson Les Paul for Gary. Gibson Firebird for Allen. Fender Stratocaster for Steve.

Yeah they did a good job....nobody can ever replace Ronny or any of them..they wrote the songs...sad they all couldn't have gotten together a few more times with Gary...it's the music that rules here..it's the Skynyrd thing..it can be duplicated but not replicated...only Ronny and his crew could make the hair stand up on your neck.....these guys are good and they do sound better than Gary's tribute band.....the real Lynyrd Skynyrd left the building in 1977......but it shows you how powerful the music is,how good it is and the love we have for them....Ronny was just amazing !! All of them together were just phenomenal........u think the stones would sell out if just Keith was touring with other guys....not..... Lynyrd Skynyrd was the best band ever in my lifetime to grace a stage..... whatever u think you cannot take away anything from them...these guys went through some really terrible shit and still get it done.....they got that southern mentality and the grace of God !!! I've seen everyone in concert.....I have never seen anyone come close to Lynyrd Skynyrd.......

i found some really old pic's of hell house because of them i was able to locate the development where hell house once stood on google maps. The smart thing for the developers to do was to rebuild hell house and sell it and the property as a recording studio they would of cleaned up big time!
