I've "heard" this song so many times on the radio, but I've never actually seriously "listened" to it. I don't like Ed Sheeran so I'd just not really pay attention whenever it came on, but now I'm conflicted. Listening to it now, and reading the lyrics, I really like it. It's very poetic, and uses the language in such a visual way. The tone is that of a love-song kinda, but there's something more interesting in the writing itself. It's the perspective of a literal photograph; depicting it as a still moment in time, when life was better, simpler, and made sense. We keep these photos at home, our pockets, or wherever, and they will always be there, and always depict the same moment. I find comfort in that. Digital media has really taken away a lot of the tactile sort of experiences that old photographs gave us. Nowadays we can easily take thousands of photos in 4K in seconds and digitally enhance or do whatever with them, and end up being stored as 1s and 0s inside an electronic box. They don't _really_ exist, not like photographs do. We can't flip through photo albums in the same way, unless you print them all, but who wants to do that? When I was a kid, I had a camera and film was limited, there was only like 20-something pictures and that's it. So I had to be really particular about what I took pictures of. I took some silly photos sure but the point is that I took them deliberately, and they meant something to me in that moment. I still have the pack the photos came in after being developed. I look at those old photos and feel sentimental, a connection, something that digital images can never really provide. As we age we tend to lose our sense of wonder in the world and we become jaded, and callous. So for me I take comfort in looking back at old photos. Is it nostalgia? Maybe, but do I really long for those days, or am I just taking solace in knowing those moments happened, and I was content. Anyone who has a box of old family photos knows what I'm talking about. It's great to sift through the memories and try to place yourself back into that moment mentally. So anyways about Ed Sheeran, I don't know why I don't like the guy, I just don't. But here I am, actually taking one of his songs seriously. It's such a good song in fact that I wasn't convinced Ed wrote it himself, so I looked it up. He did have help, and apparently the chorus is a note-for-note copy of a song called "Amazing" by Matt Cardle. I gave it a listen and they do sound pretty similar. Ed wasn't alone in making it though, so as much as I'd like to, I can't knock him on that one. But I think the song could've gotten more general interest if it took the photograph metaphor further, and dropped the romantic overtones. I never cared about it originally because I thought it was just another lame Ed Sheeran song. Well, I have to say I would have never, not for the life of me, seriously listened to this song if it wasn't for this video. So....thanks to Yuna and Yuri for providing me with this very strange experience.😁 TL; DR: 비디오 주셔서 감사합니다. 나는 이상한 시간을 보냈습니다. 안녕히 계세요!
