UK should have sent its international mega star Ed Sheeran with this Irish song about an Irish Protestant man William Sheeran and his love of Irish Catholic girl Nancy Mulligan to Eurovision with probably a more traditional Irish folk arrangement of the song exactly as done here in this version with Beoga. This obviously very jolly tune would have immediately charmed all Europe and it would have fit PERFECTLY with this year's Eurovision 2017 slogan in Kiev "Celebrate Diversity". Instead UK sends Lucie Jones with zero chance of winning with her "Never Give Up on You". And if UK shied away from this, Ireland would have wholeheartedly embraced Ed Sheeran to represent Ireland instead of the non-starter Irish Brendan Murray with his non-song "Dying to Try". "Nancy Mulligan" song has staying power and will be played 30-40-50 years from now with same effect. It is a veritable modern classic Irish folk song in its own right. And yes, it had a great chance of winning Eurovision hands down.
Onewxrld Music, I AGREE WITH YOU 100000000000000000 %. These two songs Nancy Mulligan and Galway girl are timeless. They will be played 30-60 years from now. And I agree with you that Ireland would win with Nancy Mulligan.
@ I do sympathize with what you are saying, but it simply is not true. When England sends powerful good songs, they will stand a chance. But the British don't take Eurovision seriously. Songs chosen are not timely, the artists don't stand out and other countries have got better and better even in English language songs that they send. Countries like Sweden, Russia, Italy, Bulgaria. Even smaller countries like Armenia or Azerbaijan or Serbia send huge songs. Turkey's songs when they were in Eurovision are amazing. Greece another example. Even with Cyprus. Did you hear the song "Fuego" by Eleni Foureira? You know UK has won on many occasions like with Sandie Shaw, Lulu, Brotherhood of Men, Bucks Fizz, Katrina and the Waves. They came second with great tunes as well by Mary Hopkins, The New Seekers, The Shadows, Lynsey de Paul, Scot Fitzgerald, Imaani. Little bit lower but Olivia Newton John, Jade Ewen. Look at the songs Cliff Richard did when he represented UK twice in Eurovision with "Congratulation" and "Power to All My Frends". Yes he came second twice, but both songs became great Eurovision tradition. "Congratulation" by Cliff Richard is considered an iconic Eurovision song even today above all winners. Just listen to it now! It is as relatable as decades ago. Yes UK can send Ed Sheeran. Even if he doesn't win, his song if it is a good song will dominate the listening public for years to come. Ireland also has done tremendously well even better than the UK. A final point about UK. You say Scots hate you and Irish hate you. Really? UK doesn't mean just England. Scotland and Northern Ireland ARE UK. So the United Kingdom can send a Scottish song or an Irish artist to represent UK. They will get all the votes right? Even Wales can represent the UK. They can send a singer like Tom Jones (he is from Wales) with a brilliant song and still UK would win... We need more positive attitude, great talents of world importance, and powerful good timely songs and UK will have a proper chance. Perhaps not win, but be in Top 3 consistently. UK has huge talent. But good talents are just ashamed of Eurovision and don't want to be part of it. They have disdain for it. With such an attitude, UK will continue to send mediocre minor artists and lukewarm songs way past their time and will come almost always in the bottom.
Here is a more modern interpretation of the original "Galway Girl" by Shayne Ward with Foster and Allen ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CgTuyKlp6lo.html
Here is the song "Galway Girl" that he is singing from Steve Earle. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_7-PM_4aeE4.html You see the original "Galway Girl" is aan uconic Irish song. So the Irish people just chided Ed Sheeran for stealing a title of a song they loved too much and that Ed Sheeran's "Galway Girl" was inferior and a cop out. So when he came to Ireland he sang the original "Galway Girl" as a lead to his own "Galway Girl"

(I was thinking bout doing vids with him if I had chance to be in his concert n add to my channel with light on it so it is not blurry. But yeah I didn't n no chance because I'm busy raising own kids. Sorry for long messages.),.
Wow, if I went to an Ed Sheeran concert expecting to hear Ed, I’d be mega pissed off just hearing a load of pre-pubescent girls shrieking the songs out of tune
Me I adored the public the most in this video. At one poiunt Ed Sheeran is so amazed he stops singing and lets the crowd take over. He does this in "Galway Girl", he does this in "Nancy Mulligan" when he steps forward and incites the crowd.
