Sorta dad that Electronica has evolved to the point of Digweed is now considered unconventional. Hes a fucking Legend, beyond so many mainstream DJ's of today. In fact, he and others like him laid the foundation for the pop DJ's you here now. All of you should bow and respect him . Fuck your comments about people not dancing to him.
Ah wow…so glad someone recorded this and I can’t believe it. I was just thinking about this set and searched it on a whim. My first EDC ever, I was 23 and this set and neon garden that year are one of those life altering moments that I won’t ever forget. 11 years ago…I can’t believe how time flies. So glad I got to experience this when I did, right at the tail end of the time period when the edc maps were paper and cell service was limited at best to text only. Good times. Thanks for the upload!
The progression of this set is just absolutely incredible.. it starts off slow and builds in boldness and heaviness as the set changed over-time. John Digweed is indeed a master of the decks and the art of Dj'ing. Few Dj's understand how it is to build a set like this man right here. Krewella and Hardwell of the worlds need to take a few notes on how to mix a set of tracks into eternal crescendo, taking the listener to outer space.
this set is fucking unbelievable. Sasha and Digweed have been at the very very top of my list for the past ten years (i'm only 23) and nobody else even comes close. Sets like this are the reason why.
"Music...from another planet" - you're not the first one to describe his music that way. Digweed's sets take you to places other DJs don't even know exist! Mind-blowing and trippy.
Hey man, you are awesome for recording that. The 1-2hr radio sets he plays are great, but nothing close to what he's like in the Clubs. This 1hr set you've recorded is by far the best recorded set I've heard so far. This is vintage Digweed. I've been listening to Diggers since the late 90's when he was a monthly resident at Twilo with Sasha. Every last friday of the month for 3 years. Toward the end of the Twilo era Sasha sustained an injury to his eardrum and Digweed was solo at Twilo every month for almost a full year. He was ridiculous on his own. Relentless and down-right amazing. Sometimes he would keep playing till 10:00 a.m. and just abusing the Phazon Sound System with a barrage of Bass Pounding track after track, that made the entire lower end of Manhattan pulsate. Digweed is the best Club DJ in the world! Period. I've heard them all, including Tiesto this past weekend... There's nothing like 3hrs of total darkness, no flashy screens and lasers, just darkness and a beat to guide your soul home!
From what I've been seeing in the past couple of years.. JD is No.1 in my book.. I went to the Bedrock after party right after this, and his set was even better...
I think what sets Digweed, Sasha, Nick Warren and others I listened to back in the 90's scene apart from what is more popular today(i.e. much of EDM), is the development of a sort of mystery in their sets. All was not given immediately, but instead a certain atmospheric matrix was constituted track by track over the course of the night. Listening to Diggers in this set really makes me miss those times. Thanks for posting.
Nice! I missed him in LA.. and I heard that they have a funktion-one sound system at the club he played.. You should've come to Lavo after his EDC set.. played for almost 4 hours, amazing music as always :)
Digweed's programming is one of the best. As previously mentioned, he does a great job of juxtaposing tracks build on each other. He creates a mood or vibe, usually known for dark and minimal, then explodes with the big tracks at the right time to peak. I've been listening to Digweed since 1997 and he still has the best skills around, and the best tracks. He has also found great track. He never showboats in the DJ booth, just concentrating on delivering a good mix.
He really went old school with that last track, haven't heard it since Carl Cox at Golden.. truly an amazing night you guys had. Can't wait for him to come back to South Florida.. thanks for uploading this bro!!
Thank you for posting all these videos! Man Neon Gardens was fucking amazing! Seriouslly I only left for Umek, Richie Hawtin, and Carl Cox on the main stage. The vibe was so intense due to the incredible music being played. I would actually get mad when I had to run to the bathroom I didn't want to miss a minute.
Mario Basanov - Give It Back / Sian - Shame Cube / Dominik Eulberg - Noch Ein Bass Im Aermal / Sebastian Markiewicz - Fibre (Phil Kieran Remix) / John Digweed & Nick Muir vs. Jamie Stevens - Prism / Omid - The Game (Original Dub) / Dosem - Avanta /
I think what sets him apart is mainly his programming and silky smooth transitions from track to track.. no one can build a set like John can. I recommend his Live in London album.. it will give you a very good idea of what his style is all about..
Followed by: Japanese Popstars - Disconnect/Reconnect (Maxime Dangles Remix) / ? / Depeche Mode - Soothe My Soul (Matador Remix) / Coyu - Long Time Awaited / Adarpse - Lorena / John Digweed & Nick Muir vs Psycatron - Awakenings / Piatto - MC202 / Maxime Dangles - Lyoc / Dave Clark - Wisdom To The Wise (A. Mochi Re-Edit) - Any help with the missing ID would be appreciated.
I've never missed one of his sets at Vagabond so I definitely plan on being there. He played there last Halloween too and it was insane!! If he can make it again this year in October that'd be sick!
His music is like being hypnotized and taken onto a space journey hard to locate the ground because the gravity is different due to every strange sound that digweed creates through he speakers. That should sum it up.
Great job and thank you for the video. This was the best stage by far all weekend and the smallest crowd, we walked around a few times but always ran screaming back to the Neon Garden. Maybe it's because I'm older but I don't get the new sounds of Trance. I still love the Veterans of Prog and Tech House.
I agree. The creation of the mood is what Diggers is an absolute master at developing. Also, Diggers hardly ever is self-referential with respect to his style in the booth; a trait I respect enormously.
Indeed he is.. The rec device is Nokia 808 ... two HAAC mics to deal with the low frequencies. I think the HTC One and the new Nokia 1020 have them as well.
Mate - Props from Sydney Australia. Agreed with all the comments re: John still being THE benchmark in EDM. Out of curiousity what camera did you use? The sound quality is incredible!
Add if you know any! 1) Mario Basanov - Give Me Back 2) ID 3) Dominik Eulberg - Noch Ein Bass Im Ärmel 4) ID (On transitions Charlie May guest mix) 5) ID 6) ID 7) I6B - The Game 8) ID 9) TJP - Disconnect/Reconnect (Maxime Dangles Remix) 10) ID 11) Depeche Mode - Soothe My Soul (Matador Main Remix) 12) Coyu - Long Time Awaited 13) ID 14) John Digweed, Nick Muir vs. Psycatron - Awakenings 15) ID 16) ID 17) Maxime Dangles - Lyoc 18) ID
Beautiful set. Was right in front. Refreshing to hear tunes that had substance and not just hard drops like the rest of the shit that's being released under the Progressive House genre. Anyone know the intro track?
i was so stubborn to give some new artist a listen but acts like Umek , Nero, Skrillex, Diplo ( just to name a few randoms) have finally caught my ear=) but i forever be found in the stage where Digweed, Sasha, lawler, Hawtin, Dubfire or Vonstroke is playing before any others!!!! Legends!
Techno stuff coming back soon. It goes in cycles just as hard rock camed back from the death. People just need to get tired of the current hardstyle crap and we'll see new techno material on main stream soon. It just maybe have to ad some more harmonies sometimes to please the crowd.
Thank you Wayne for explanation. I'm new to the whole house, edm, whatever ya want to call it and have so many questions. thank you for replying. This music sounds like it's from another planet to me right now cuz i'm such a green bean on the scene. cheers.
He played for another 4 hours at his after party at Lavo right after this... one of the best nights of EDM i've ever been to! You going to Vagabond next march ?
