Eddian Reacts To: Ren back on 74 

Englishman in New York, another of Ren's Sting re-takes.

The audio is echoing and sounds like it's playing twice out of sync.

Ren has said in interviews that Sting was a big influence. He does this so well, FIRE!

The first part of this song was Back on 74 by the UK band Jungle (he mentions a shout out to Jungle in the rap section) If you seek it out, you will be able to see how Ren altered it. Ren has a gift in being able to translate other people's music and lyrics in a way that allows other listeners to appreciate what they do not always "get" when listening to the originals. He may change the tempo, he may keep the music to the original, but add his own twist with the introduction of instruments not previously there, yet add his own lyrics (His retake of the Verve classic is a great example). Sometimes he will keep the lyrics and translate the music from something like edm to acoustic guitar (Ren's recent Fred Again mashup). There is always one certainty when listening to Ren's music; the certainty that you will never be able to anticipate what comes next as each song progresses! The Big Push did a wonderful version of An Englishman in New York if you want more Sting. Many listeners begin with Hi Ren, then gravitate towards the Jenny and Screech (full version with Violet's tale at the end) or the Money Game trilogy. Both will be something you will have never experienced before, and are unlikely to forget anytime soon. At times Ren's music is described as Bardcore. Jenny and Screech is probably his best example of this. Pure genius. Enjoy your journey down the rabbit hole!

Ren is a walking jukebox fellas. I've never heard a more diverse artist in my life. Rep, reggae, blues, rock, he does the lot. And it's all top tier.

I recommend his "Fred Again mash up" as well for more heartfelt singing and guitar, and concur with both of his Chinchilla duets. Also check out his former band The Big Push for quite another range of music.

Back on 74, Jungle. performed this at the 24 Brit awards. It comes from Volcano, iconic dance video at approx' 17.min into the film (also a one take) which was a hit in 23 in the UK. This clip was filmed in Brighton.

You guys would love the band Ren was in ,called the Big Push ( the red suspenders performances) on the streets of Brighton, also the busking with Ren and Chinchilla and Ren and Sam Tompkins . These vidioes show how he got so good at doing " Mash ups " of 2 or more songs . If you haven't found Chinchilla she is a wonderful singer songwriter. Eccentric but brilliant she has a new song called Ratio 1:5 that will make you weep with the sad beauty of it .Her songs with Ren are Chalk Outlines and How To Be Me and the ones busking .

I had a quick look in your playlist and couldn't find "Hi Ren". In my opinion one of the best songs of the last 25 years. Maybe ever. It's long and will take a bit to digest but if you are going to be reacting to any Ren the this is a must. Then move onto the tale of jenny and Screech.

His videos are filmed in Brighton on the south coast of England. I've been lucky to see him perform on the streets of the city with his band The Big Push while I lived there. The guy is so talented it's mind-blowing! You should check out his street performance doing a mashup of I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop. It shows his versatility. You definitely won't be disappointed. He can rap, sing, beatbox, plays guitar and piano, produces all his music. In fact his talent is unlimited. He plays all genres, therefore he can entertain everyone whether you're into rap, reggae, ska, punk, jazz or metal. Absolute genius. I'm a 57 year old wee Glesga Goth who NEVER got into rap and now there's this guy that I HAVE to listen to every bloody day 😂. Enjoy the Ren rabbit hole because there's no coming back 😊

The band The Big Push does Englishman in New York with Ren as lead BTW: REN himself does all the writing and arrangement of the songs and also does the sound mixes and directs the videos. Miney Game 3 just won 3 awards at the Lindon Mysuc Video Awards. Best video, best director and best concept.

The Big Push Englishman in New York is great but I would say Bongo Bong for the next one. Ren does great Sting covers but he is so much more.

And if you are at least a bit to rap/hip-hop, you should definitely look at Ren's rapity rap side as well. :o) The Hunger, "Genesis", "Murderer", "Seven Sins" etc. And I really really recommend the "Money Game" trilogy for something extra. (There is no need to do all three parts in one reaction, unlike the "Tale of Jenny and Screech" - it is a must in these three songs, they are close-knitted, but MG's are connected, however, they're their own things at the end.) And then there is "Hi Ren", of course! I'm really curious about what would you say to that one. :o)
