James and his father were both officers in the British military, and despite being very close, were never overtly emotional with each other, and when this amazing video was made, James's father had only recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney disease, so this video ( done in one take) was a very tough one for James to complete, and we can see the slight wavering of his voice on occasion. He refused to use 'Auto Tune' because he wanted everything to be 100% real and genuine. I heard he donated every penny of his royalties of this song to the brilliant UK charity' Help For Heroes' who do so much great work for ex-servicemen & women, which was a lovely thing to do. God bless him. ❤ 👍 🙋‍♂

were you struck by the horrible irony of James trying to bully the public into taking medications with a high risk of causing demetia amongst other things ?? he delighted in saying he took all 3 brands. Do you think he took the real ones ? Do you think he was given placebos? Amazing how we are always facing the wrong way when the enemy attacks.

It's honestly the phrase "It's my turn, to chase the monsters away" that get's me. Like a full circle of life moment, where your dad looks after you, scaring the monsters away under your bed. To the sad realisation that your dying father is probably terrified of the darkness, the unknown... the monsters. And it's your turn to make him feel secutre, and chase the monsters away.

My mother and father were married for 38 when her dementia convinced her that he was leaving, he wasn't and she filed for divorce, two years later I moved in to take care of her. For 7 long lears I had to witness it rob her of everything she was. My devout Catholic mother that I was grown before I heard her say more than $#!+ and damn in my life, on the morning she passed (the 16th of this month will be 4 years ago) she called me a goddambed son of a b!+ch for getting her out of bed. May you find comfort and solace. It is a cruel disease to recover from even being near

My mom lasted a long time after a stroke, 11 years actually and she passed in her sleep in 2015. Towards the end she needed help walking, standing and eating. One day I was helping her back into bed. I picked her up (she was about 80 lbs. at this point) and asked if she wanted to dance. She chuckled a little and weakly said "We can dance tomorrow". I laid her down and covered her with her blanket, told her I love you and she said it back. Those were her last words to me. I cry more telling that story than I did when she passed. I knew it was coming to that and I was just so relieved that she was no longer in any pain and struggling every day just to see tomorrow. She was a very proud woman and I know she felt ashamed for needing the help to do things that she used to do herself. I always reassured her that it was my turn to take care of her. I don't wish upon anyone to watch their parents slowly pass BUT it was the biggest honor in my life to help her when she needed it the most. Love your parents and love each other. Tell them you love them.

When this video was released his dad as you know was dying of stage 4 kidney disease. So you can live with only one kidney but his dad had already donated one of his kidney and only had one kidney left. A distant cousin saw this video and reached out to the family. he got tested and tested positive to be a donor to James blunts dad. He got transplant and his dad is now alive and well. Amazing! Such a powerful song. Gets me every time..

So you should look up the story after the song came out- the dad needed a kidney transplant and from what I understand a cousin was made aware from the video and was a match to donate a kidney and now his dad is doing well. Had the kidney transplant in 2020. Still tear up almost every time I see the video though - when it was filmed it truly was a goodbye video and you can see it all over his face how understandably difficult it was to make.

Man, I bawled my eyes out the first time I heard this song. I'm very, very close with my parents. My Dad will turn 60 in June. My Dad and Mom are two of the strongest, hardest working people I've ever known. Over the last two years I've seen a change. I've seen them growing older. Nothing drastic, but they are both slowing down. Last year my Dad had a rollover accident on his way into work at 3 in the morning. I got a call from him in the back of the ambulance telling me he rolled and needed me to go get Mom and drive her to the hospital. I was petrified. I've never made the 15 minute drive to their house faster, it took me 7 minutes. Dad was okay, no serious injuries just banged up. It really affected me. For the first time I really thought about losing one of them. It was short thereafter I heard this song. I've since had deep conversations with both my parents. I dread the day I have to say goodbye in this life, but I know there is nothing unresolved between us.

The first "It's my turn to chase the monsters away" breaks me apart every time, not gonna lie. And - as egoistic as I tend to be - I can't help but feel jealous. Because I'd have loved to feel that way about any of my family and I sadly do not. So I'm coming back to this song and similar ones from time to time to feel something. Great reaction, guys. It's nice to share an emotional moment with complete strangers, neither one judging the other, since they don't know anything about each other.

Also, after the recording of this video, Almost all the crew were in tears & sobbing. In his typical English Stiff Upper Lip attitude, Charlies said, why all the tears, I'm still here. Haha

I have lost both parents, all my uncles and aunts, four brothers, a sister, two nephews, a niece and several cousins. The hardest by far were the ones taken from me suddenly. With those who died from cancer and other long term illness I had a chance to say my goodbyes and I also knew they were no longer suffering.

I've been my moms caregiver for 8 years. She's now 94,bedridden with dementia. She no longer knows who I am,but I fold her clothes, pull the blankets up,feed and change her. And,yes, tell her to just close her eyes, its ok,I'm here. Chasing the monsters away💔

Were In Tears! Great Reaction 👍👏.

In 2016 my sister died very unexpectedly when she was just 22. It rocked my world, and 8 years later it’s still a loss that I’m learning to grow around. My father on the other has been slowly going for years now. I’ve watched him get weaker and waste away for the last 3.5 years. Yes, his passing won’t be as hard, but it’s devastating to watch someone slowly die before your eyes for years and know there isn’t anything you can do to stop it besides make them comfortable. We’ve all said our goodbyes and I love you’s. My sister and brother and I know he will be at peace when he leaves us, but that is won’t help the grief being just as intense as it was with the sudden death of my sister.

My gramma took a while to pass. I remember going into her hospital room and seeing her eyes light up when she saw me. Inside I was broken but i tried to stay strong for her. I hugged her and held onto her and told her I loved her so much. I thanked her for being the most amazing gramma i could have wanted. She held onto me and told me she loved me. Then she told me she was so tired. It was at that point I cracked and cried my eyes out while she rubbed my head and said it was ok. She passed away the next day. I miss her so much. Love you gramma.

So interesting bit of info, James blunt was a Captain and served with the NATO peacekeeping force in Kosovo and finished out his time in the military as a member of the Life Guard Regiment in the British Household Cavalry, his father served in 3th/18th Royal Hussars as a cavalry officer before becoming a helicopter pilot and colonel of the Army Air Corps.

I’m 60 years old and I remember praying when I was much younger to God that when my time comes to take me out quick. Now, listening to your therapy session, I am willing to go through the suffering if it gives my wife, daughter and son a chance to say what needs to be said!

So many stories of heartbreak and loss. 😢 💔...I lost my own dad and then my mother 6 months later. It took me a long, long time to find any sort of peace. I did find peace but that doesn't stop me from missing them dreadfully. 😢

Most people in the UK take the mick out of James Blunt, but he takes it on the chin with self deprecating humour,he is a very decent bloke and deserves all praise he gets for this song.

I listen to this song and it hits me from the other direction. My father died in 2004 but we did not have a good relationship. This song hits me in the fact that I hope I have done a good enough father to my son that he will feel this way when it is my time.

I agree that, for me anyway, to lose a loved one unexpectedly is harder than having the chance to say good-bye through a terminal illness. My husband left the house with a couple of his forever friends to go to the nearby go-cart track. He had a massive heart attack and never came home. It's been 5 years this weekend and my heart still aches and breaks over his being gone. Last year I took care of my dad after he was diagnosed with liver cancer and liver disease. It wasn't easy watching what he went through. But I got to spend precious, precious time with him and did have the chance to hold him and say good bye.

I lost both of my parents in 2022 at the age of 30 while trying to graduate from university. My father passed away in 2 days and then 10 months later my mother passed away in a week. I never got to say goodbye to either of them. What I wouldn't give to see them one more time. To see their smiles -, to hear their voices -, to talk to them -, to hug them one more time. I miss them so much.

I came back to watch both your reactions. I listened to the song first and then i watched the actual video before watching you guys. That's a tough one because thats too much like my situation with my dad. I did the hospice myself at my house and held his hand until the end. This stuff is sad but getting it out helps. This was a TRUE reaction video!! Thank you!!

It's an amazing point in life when your dad is "not your father" and you are "not your son" and "just 2 grown men". For a kid, your dad is ALWAYS your dad, and i still see my dad that way, but we are truly just 2 grown men. Hanging out, having fun, living life. The "Parent" stage is kinda over and you are just friends. If you are lucky enough to have that, it is an amazing thing. I do feel bad for the rest of you out there because my dad is truly the greatest one there is (outside of the Heavenly Father). And he has always been a great example of the LORD and passed that along to his family. I am truly a lucky man
