After recording the Joe Rogan Experience #524 podcast, Eddie Bravo explains the Rubber Guard to Rickson Gracie. 10thplanetjj.com jjgf.com (Video shot by @JamieVernon)
with real martial artists theres typically mutual respect between each other unless for whatever reason. Eddies shown alot of respect for the Gracie family, considering theyre the reason he even started JJ. sadly some of them misunderstand his intentions with the evolution of the style. its essentially what happened with Ip Man
I understand like when I met some of my favorite people in the sport and my idols I couldn't even speak so he did a lot better than I could hope to talking to him
Eddie got flak like he had the answer but he shows a true martial artist defends his dojo by constantly evolving and paying tribute to the elders. Your kung fu no good, wait till my master gets home. Sorry couldn't help it.
This is what sets Rickson apart from his family. Not afraid to think outside the box. The fact that he is even open to learning something from Bravo shows Rickson is a boss
Rickson philosophy is strictly Jiu-Jitsu(Old School) don't be fooled, however, Rickson knows that Eddie has a style that is very productive and effective. Rickson just wanted to learn first hand what it would be like to fall into the Rubber Guard because Rickson wants to be Rickson and know how to defeat it! The Rubber Guard is a threat to anyone doing old school Jiu-Jitsu. However, you need not fret. The Rubber Guard can be defeated, not easily but it can be defeated. You need look no further than the technique applied by Leo Vieira when he defeated Eddie in ADCC. Leo Attacked Eddies upper body and stayed out of Eddie's guard. People brush off that win but that was no fluke, that was domination by one of the most dominate Jiu-Jitsu fighters of all time. Leo attacked Eddie's upper body, keeping himself out of Eddie's Guard. Leo's Knees was the key. Go back and look at Leo's attack and his placement of his knee. Leo had no time to study for Eddie or practice against his style. When Eddie beat Royler it's because Royler constantly played in Eddie's guard. Leo did no such thing. When fighting against the Rubber Guard, if you can stay away from the flexibility of those legs and maintain a balance upper body attack then you can survive, you may not win but you won't get stretched or choked out! Rickson knows Eddie's worth and Rickson was there for a reason. Eddie beat his little brother twice. Royler Gracie pound for pound the most technical fighter in Jiu-Jitsu history even more technical than Rickson was easily defeated twice, well, once, but he was in all sorts of trouble at MetaMoris against Eddie, Rickson knows that Eddie's system is well worth learning, if only for the purpose of creating a style to defeat it!.....Nothing is ever what it seems, the pride of the Gracie Family is still paramount for Rickson and the legacy he wants to leave to Kron. This ain't no game, this is about the Survival of the Gracie Name in the sport that they gave life to!
One thing that a lot of people won't understand, I've watched about 10 minutes straight of this and Rickson hasn't said one word, he just absorbs. The only people who can do that are complete amateurs and complete masters. Everyone else would have to interject and jockey for status and all other kinds of ego bullshit. The amateur has no status to defend, and the master is secure in his status. That's a hint for some of you guys.
+EGarrett01 You're telling me im not an absolute juu jistzu master? I've watched this video twice and now have all the knowledge I need to tap out anyone I please from the runner guard. Where's my gee?
+EGarrett01 or it could be interjected for questions though. those who dont care how stupid they seem if they ask "stupid" questions. But you are right.. ego is easily in the way for learning
@@shhmoovepenta9962 joes kicks aint to be fucked with. Youd probably have a heel print on your upper back if you arent prepared. Crazy powerful. Cant believe hes practiced those kicks for like 3 decaded, sick dedication
Lol Joe, like any other Jiu-jitsu practitioner knows if these 2 legends are talking theres not really anything you can add lol you just shut it and soak in the moment.
that's not badass, its just hubris. Eddie could be talking to Hawking about his flat universe fake ufo landing shit and ask "you understand?" He's just an oblivious idiot who bloviates ad nauseam.
@@Pr0x1mo its pretty ridiculous to suggest Eddie doesn't know what he is talking about regarding BJJ . And to say he is oblivious or an idiot regarding BJJ is just plain stupid and utter nonsense.
Kareem Fadl I feel it would be better to do no gi because you learn to not rely on clothes to grab. If you focus grabbing the body it’s more realistic because you’ll go into a situation expecting to grab the human instead of what he’s wearing. Their both useful, if somebody has on a hoodie and jeans and fights somebody who trains in the gi then that guy is about to be choked out 😂😂
The Gracies didn't lose for a long period of time. A long long period. And when you don't lose for a long period of time, it sucks to lose :) Then this stoner comes and in chokes out Royler. It was a combination of them losing, to the Gracies not respecting that Bravo was promoting marijuana and that he was tweaking BJJ to use it without the Gi, which the Gracies felt took away from the street fighting art of jiu jitsu.
Robert C. Christian Yeah,it was just mostly sour grapes and hypocrisy on the Gracie's part when it first happened, but I think they're starting to come around and embrace it,instead of criticizing.I think they see it's better to learn it and use it in their schools, than to have their students suffer the losses to Bravo's students.
Tim Ballentine Could you give me some names of 10th planet fighters who are doing well? I haven't been following them, so I don't really know any names. I'd like to see how they do in competition (I'm including jiujitsu and MMA here).
he only sounds Insane about conspiracies if you haven't given them the same time of day you should give any information. pre conceived bias should be left at the door or you can never have a good finger on the truth without being vulnerable to disinformation.
Rickson "You've got 20 minutes to convince me" Eddie "okthefirstthingyougottaknowisthelegscomeuphighsotheycantattackmeidevelopedthiscauseilovebjjIdroppedthegicausemmahasnogi......"
@@user-uy4rm6os9l 99 percent of people don't train or truly understand jiu jitsu so he doesn't realize this goes on every day at a jiu jitsu academy haha this is extremely common.
I love how eddie is so respectful to Rickson when he's explaining why he took the gi away. It wasn't disrespect, it was passion for Jiu Jitsu and understanding that great martial arts have to evolve with time and new techniques.
+Martial Arts Mecca Agreed. I was more impressed with him just listening than Bravo arrogantly blabbering on. Rickson is so impressive...even as the listener/learner, he is compelling and the center of attention.
Joncarlo Campos Get in a gym dude you will never ever regret it! If only for the exercise and the confidence you will gain. Good luck and hope to meet you on the matt!
I love Bert but also like... yeah what the fuck is he gonna add to a highly technical conversation about Jiu Jitsu in a room with Eddie, Rickson and Joe better to just vibe and make a small cameo
I love the way Rickson just sucking in that knowledge.. Even tho, hes one of the best in the world, he's not afraid to admit, that theres ALWAYS something new to learn.. Love Bravo
@John Sim the rubber guard worked on Royler Gracie straight into a triangle, back when Eddie was only a brown belt and taped a gracie black belt, put him in some fucked up positions in the remarch too. They're just pissed he's so goog.
Malte Chr The Gracie’s have too much machismo to admit that something may work better than their fighting system in a certain situation. If that’s what you saw then I think you are misreading him. I feel like the video is dripping of Rickson’s indifference.
This is what Jiu Jitsu is all about, learning from each other, and having graciousness and gratitude toward each other. Much respect for these two legends of the art.
+Frank N. Stein difference between you and the guy who posts this is the guy who posts this has a shot at being actually happy and self assured in his existence
chemtrails are not a conspiracy. they are embedded in records available under freedom of information . only the baseless disinfo claiming otherwise makes you feel so.
@@Prince_Luci you avoid the tough questions. why does John Brennan talk about chemtrails openly. why are there several foi docs detailing chemtrail experimentation on southern England and various parts of the USA? instead of trying to divert from what you can't answer, how about you man up to a debate and address these irrefutable facts. humble yourself and try it.
03056932R those were hypothetical plans on how we might fight wars in the distant futures other stuff on the list was zombies and space lasers. Go read the *actual* document before you refer someone to the edited version.
@@Prince_Luci wow you are such a coward. pretending you even know what docs i mean let alone having read them. tell me the name of one of the docs . consider yourself called out for blatant lying. do you care so little about the truth you would rather flat out lie just so you can save face in an online discussion? how can you have a balanced view if you don't know the information you deny exists and then pretend to have read it to disingenuously discredit it. didn't you think it would be obvious? this is the dunning Kruger effect in action. Name the documents.
@@hubster4477 why do people keep sayin that shit? its a dumb argument! mma was in its infancy, and there were no big names yet. we never knew who was better until the fight back then.
So was Royce, but he ended up doing well in mma. He lost some tough matches and won some. Rickson was so worried about his reputation he never fought anybody, even mid way through his career. Look what Randy Couture, Dan Henderson, Chuck Liddell "risked" fighting late in their career. They weren't worried about wins and losses ruining their reputation.
In his 30's and early 40's he could have fought Gokar Chivichyan, Sakuraba, Pat Miletich, Frank Shamrock, Guy Mezger, Igor Vovchanchyn to name a few. Plenty of names out there, to much fear of losing the reputation.
I can feel eddies relief at finally being able to make his case and explain his process so sincerely. Rickson is great here too, listening so respectfully even though this topic has been so charged for his family.
It's AMAZING to see Rickson in this video, just absorbs, listens patiently. A true martial arts MASTER in action, that's what you're witnessing here, just incredible.
Yeah then rickson goes on in interviews saying the rubber guard is inefficient and if you're properly trained in bjj you never should have to rely on rubber guard. He's actually a big hater of anything non Gracie related to BJJ sad but true they refuse to expand and broaden BJJ too closed minded
@@JustMeELC yes very true there's many different interviews where he speaks his opinion loudly against it and anything that's not directly tied to his lineage and training methods as amazing as he is just think if he were to adopt some other methods
It's so funny hearing Eddie talk about ju jitsu. I'm not a smart guy myself, but no one would mistake Eddie for a rocket scientist. Guy starts talking about fighting and suddenly he is Einstein. Guess you just need to find what people are passionate about.
I just want Rogan, Jocko, and Ben Shapiro to just commentate on and instigate Eddie Bravo, Steve-O, and Alex Jones stuck in a room together. Also, just a gym session with Eddie and Alex would be gold.
John Doe Three buildings went down on 9/11: The "Twin Towers" and Building 7. The sketchy thing is that Building 7 did not suffer a direct strike from any aircraft and yet still looked to be demolished? When a building is created with the intention of its structure containing and withstanding fire damage goes down like that, it raises follow-up questions from skeptics.
You can totally tell that even though Eddie is one of the biggest names in Jiu Jitsu that this man is one of his heroes and he's nervous af haha I LOVE Eddie and his style.
Just came across this video, awesome. Rickson is a living legend. I really loved how he listened to Eddie and that he is never too big headed to learn new things. Respect to both Rickson and Eddie, both masters in their own right and we can all learn something from them😊👍💪
One of the most beautifully, technical, philosophical videos I've seen lately on Martial Arts. I love how Sensei Bravo delves deep into things. His personal/professional attacks reminded me of the stories Master Lee faced when introducing JKD. It wasn't about disrespect, but about elevating the art. Thanks!
This is an INSANE moment in jiu jitsu history. Imagine if we had tape of when Mitsuyo Maeda and the gracies traded techniques like this. I wish Kron would train with Eddie a little before his MMA debut. JJ will just keep evolving, at some point rubber guard will be considered an old school technique.
Eddie looks so excited, this is like his dream. He sounds like a 5 year old explaining something magical to his dad, barely breathing haha. So wonderful to watch.
This has inadvertently become the greatest video I have ever watched on RU-vid. So many layers of skill, respect, passion, altruism and the subtle nuances in between. Love it.
Eddie bravo is the tesla is ju jitsu...very overlooked and looked down on..and very under appreciated by the greats..he is one of the greats and a legend
WTF ? Tesla is highly rated and love by many. Even Watchmojo, a shitty channel rate him as "the no.1 most interesting man in the world" Bitch u know nuttin'!
he is :D also rener gracie :D rickson is just the coolest guy but the rest has so much passion for what they are doing that they cant hold still for a second :D and just go off like a rocket whenever they get to do or show something
WOW. This is so cool. I'm hearing Eddie Bravo & Joe Rogan BJJ appellate lawyers talking about cases with the Supreme Court Judge Rickson Gracie! @Dent IQ above stupid #trademarkthatstatementloanguy619 ftw
You have to understand, rickson is like a god in the jiujitsu community and eddie has given his soul to jiujitsu to make it better..he was very excited and wanted to get it all out while he had the chance..its actually very cool to see how excited he is about getting the chance to show rickson personally the rubber guard which he himself developed for the love of jiujitsu. oh and eddie was most likely high as hell lol
Hell no, he saw his opportunity to get the fuck outta there while Eddie's head was turned. He was going a little overboard with it there and Joe opted out.
Undoubtedly one of the greatest moments of Eddie Bravo's public life - - his brain is working cleanly, he's not posturing, he just can see the fights in his mind and seamlessly transitions. As a teacher, he is not being granted any permissions, he just has complete respect and appreciation from Rickson as a true peer. This video made me happy for him.
Awesome to see one master give such focused attention to another. There is no ego in Rickson, he is interested and openminded. And Bravo's passion is contagious. :D
***** You're not alone in this. Me, I am indifferent, I don't notice it once I get going. And I guess it's just another aspect of preparing yourself for RL confrontation. You won't have the option of getting uncomfortable if you find yourself having to grapple an assailant.
***** Then you're a squeamish little bitch. My idea of a good time is being locked in a battle of wills and basically human chess where the outcome is effectively disabling the opponent, if you can only focus on "sweaty guys" you should take up knitting or something.
You can tell Rickson is interested in what Eddie has to say. He's a smart man who is clearly open minded as you say. I don't agree with the people who say that Eddie is acting like a kid or something like that. He is just very articulate and says what he wants anyway, regardless of what anyone thinks - also who wouldn't be a bit excited if Rickson Gracie is there? That is Eddies chance to get the word out and he takes it. Silence his critics so to speak. Good on Eddie.
underboss87 Exactly. Eddie is superenthusiastic, and has said more than once how he views the Gracies. It's respect and adoration. And Rickson pays Eddie the respect he is due as another master and original thinker, someone who is great and has made it his own way.
***** hehe.. I love guys like you. I love to pull you in as close to me as possible, hold you tight and feel you panic. _"Oh no! This dude doesn't really want to grapple with me! He wants to have gay sex with me!"_ Then you frantically try to pull out of the guard and *!BOOM!* - your arm is going home with me, lol.... xD You can't be squeamish about this stuff when your limbs are at stake.. :)
SlainByBlind ninjutsu belts stop at 15th dan. 2 years of my life wasted, but I feel worse for my sensei who wasted 20 years, but I’m glad that he discovered Jiu jitsu and got his blue belt 6 months ago
Eddie Bravo’s compassion and appreciation for JJ overwhelms me with excitement and joy for him and JJ itself. My grandmother is and has always been mad in love with JJ and she swears meditation with pure patience is her number 1 technique.
Dr. Drew wtf man come on. Thats legit uncalled for. You are part of the reason a lot of people maybe such as her are often scared to comment or even just talk to guys because they are scared of being harassed. She’s talking about BJJ and the video and fair enough if she’s pretty, cool but there’s no reason to take it that far, it’s just uncomfortable and paints a bad representation of men.
Watching and listening to Eddie explain BJJ and and putting all the components together is truly amazing. Few people know the sport like he does and it’s crazy to watch him go to work
It's not an unplanned amateur clip, Joe Rogan has a podcast that he films almost every day, they have all the equipment and experience to film this correctly, what are you talking about
You can see the passion Eddie has for jiu-jitsu just by the way he talks about. He loves it. I always enjoy watching someone talk about their passion no matter what it is. It really helps put into perspective how great that one thing can be if put in the hands of the right person.
Rickson isn't just listening out of good manners. He's genuinely taking it in. You can tell because he asks very specific follow-up questions about scenarios. Which is a great way to approach anything. Anybody can have a great pitch for something. It's when you catch them off-guard with questions about specific details that you find out if they are full of shit. And either you find out they don't have any real idea what they are talking about, or you find yourself learning something new that's sincerely worth learning. You can't lose
@@jacobmaldonado6406 I think BJJ is overrated. In the current time of combat sports, I feel like: Amateur wrestler Amateur BJJ Pro wrestler > Pro BJJ Pro wrestler with MMA knowledge > Pro BJJ with MMA knowledge
@@user-io9ic6tm7u please go for submission whilst being lifted above your opponent's head who is about to slam you. IMO wrestling will beat BJJ in this time. Why? Takedowns. To land a takedown against a pro wrestler is very hard. BJJ fighters are not primarely focussing on takedown offense. For example take a look at Swanson vs Kron Gracie.
@@user-io9ic6tm7u so this could be a good comparison for some but definitely not IMO. Why? Damian Maia his level of grappling is levels above Askren's grappling. The reason why I picked Kron Gracie vs Cub is because Cub is an MMA vet (also black belt BJJ) and Kron has been growing op as a BJJ practicioner in the Gracie family. If a BJJ based fighter could learn high level wrestling... Damn
Omg thank you eddie bravo i has my 5th mma match and train in jujitsu as my primary attack and trained this rubber guard technique for month's....i ended the fight via elbow stikes from tje rubber guard position i cant thank you enough this is something ill never forget....cheers
