He has a pretty bent back while pressing, taking some power from his chest. Using his legs would put very unhealthy pressure on his lower back which wouldn't be the problem with a straight back. I think that might be the reason
This is a full body exercise. You use your legs for the first pull. Then basically your back and core for everything else. The way Eddy performs the press is very dynamic (from belly to overhead) not strict (from front rack to overhead).
Eddie has to have the strongest static strength ever, just watched Zydrunas Savickas's 215 who is also known as a beast in static strength but Eddie used no leg drive. Insane, so sad he never reattempted the log once he recovered.
Matt exactly he easy had that log world record sad he never got the chance after his very very close first attempt he threw 216 up and his deadlift was just insane. Definitely the best static lifter of all time no question.
I've been saying it for years, he could of easily beaten Malanichev's RAW PL WR too if he trained for it. The man has to be strongest static lifter of all time, and he was only young, had plenty more in him...if he didnt die or get seriously injured of course.
@Anthony Smith I think Eddie Hall stated when he was this big he had no control over his legs for a drive or his coordination was to far off to make it helpful vs harmful
Eddie is about as strong as shaw or haftor but he is shorter so he has the advantage in lifts like this (but this advantage in things like tire flipping and train pulling).
Only if they did wsm like this. Them doing this in a stadium w 10 thousand people looks sooo much more professional. And the guys competeing deserve it.
Totally agree, always hated how the crowds of wsm are just little groups of locals who don’t even know what’s going on. This feels much more like a real pro sporting event
@@maartos wouldn't you be? Seriously... If you're an avid gym goer you must realize how freakishly strong these men are, and Eddie was/is the monster amongst freaks. All i have to say is "500" and EVERYONE instantly knows what I'm talking about. Regardless of the record being broken since then, Eddie nearly killed himself to do it. Yeah... I'd be cocky too
He for sure had more but like he said there were other events still to come. Had he gone for more, which I don't think they would have let him since it would not have been planned, it might have taken too much out of him for the rest of the competition.
@@actualamateur149 My guy, I am not the one that said "tbh." It is not shocking that people just spell out words, but I simply have to assume a troll when someone asks what common abbreviations mean.
Looking back at Ed in overhead events just goes to show how thick he is. Not just muscularity, the man's joints are like those of a bull. No wonder he always seemed so composed
thor struggled more on 200kg than eddie on 216 kg. 225 could have happened, but sadly we will never find out since eddie will never go back to his old strenght.
Wild how HEAVY he is here and how DIFFERENT he looks from today. Much healthier today. Carrying all that extra mass has got to be taxing. Glad he achieved what he wanted to achieve and got “out”. Dropped weight. Way to go man. Good stuff.
GDT_ TPAS His strength is still great, but he’s not nearly as strong as he was since retiring is what they’re saying. Like, if he competed now even at Britain’s Strongest Man he wouldn’t get on the podium
@Thor Odinson Ah Thor, since the comment was only 2 months old, I see your reaction time is getting remarkably faster. Congrats, you're going to need it.
@Thor Odinson Eddie fan boys are morons....why because they don't like the fact people like you cheated as proven with reports and behind the scenes footage, or the fact you claimed lossing your child is just as bad as being denied reps that you blatantly cheated over ? Go wash your blue shirt with your proper yes man, if anyone's a fan boy it's them twats...
@@duckspeaker2702 IKR they're all over the youtubes, salty englishmen being their usual great sports fan selves lol I wonder why no one has mentioned in this comment section that Eddie only broke this record by 1Kg, which apparently is pathetic.
This man had 5kg+ more in him (15+ more if he used leg drive). Eddie was such a beast at this time it was insane. Watching him do this world record while not using his legs is just remarkable, his pure strength is so intriguing and incredible. He’s a tall guy in general but is still considered short for his profession/career choice, so the fact that one of the “small guys” was accomplishing these feats of strength is astounding. Such an amazing strongmen and person, Eddie is one of the strongest men to ever live 💪🏻 one in billion genetics, a modern Hercules
@@dctPL He's explained why he says what he says. It's to get inside of his own head to hype him up, and to discourage his opponents. Before WSM 17 he told someone in an interview that yes, he will win it, just to get it in his head that there's no doubt, doing the same with the upcoming fight.
Really gets me how he doesn't use any leg drive when it is actually allowed. It's like he wants to make it harder for himself.. Crazy shoulder strength.
@@blitzy3244 women make up 52% of the population, there is no genetic difference between men and women. The only reason women don't own 52% of records is that from a young age they deal with sexism. Women are told to eat less and not work out to appease men, which causes them not to build muscles which would make them stronger than men. Its all a lie started by the patriarchy.
@@hanschenklein8124 He talked about this in an interview, he used to train without belts, etc. to build up his core strength so he wouldn't have to wobble and stabilise where the others had to due to his insane stabilising capability
Gotta say though, I think Z woulda crushed it. He's pressed a 500 lbs log, that's just ridiculous. Eddie Hall had incredible shoulders, but I don't think ever as good as Z. Just watch Z pressing the Austrian Oak in 2015 and 2016.
@@WillJM81280 for single lifts there is no such thing. Whatever you need to do to get it up and locked out is all that counts when lifting for weight. Double dipping is only a no-no when lifting for reps. But yes, he does "double-dip" when he lifts just about anything, which is why it was such a problem for him at worlds 2017.
