Rodrick H Smokes Dank Jesus Christ thank you. It’s like we can’t enjoy this song without that fucking story being brought up. Everyone thinks they’re the only ones who know it.
It’s been here 13 years,we’re you in prison or something?? Getting your “head straight” somewhere or no Wi-Fi in Hooterville😂😂 I know I’ve been there😂😂
" Shining Force " ..... People will be better listeners , ( if it can be taught ) that these men are " playing for the Gods " ....as your quote have said.... These men know they have done their jobs utilizing theses instruments.... ( We all must give them their props!! )
Eddie hazel was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo..Underrated RIP Eddie❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Mr. Hazel stopped by the basement in '85 where I and some guys were practicing. I was about 25 then, and didn't know much. I knew some of Parliament's music, but didn't know the players well. Mr. Hazel jammed for a while with us. I still have the tape..I didn't really realize who this guy really was until I googled him years later, and found out that he is on the top 100 list of best guitarists in the world! This blew me away! What Talent!...
Thanks for the funky feedback Sir Coleman, is there a way for us to get a copy of that tape (VIDEO OR AUDIO)? Hopefully we can work something out, thanks for noticing and the comment, Much respect. P
He is playing like he is jamming-.... like it’s just him- he has everyone tuned out. Took me 48 years to find this.... blows me away. Not sure what hit is but it brings me to tears.... so much soul- so much intensity. This what great guitarists do... they get into the moment and let the music must flow...
Been hooked since 1971. Navy, these tunes cut our souls. Then 1973 the War is over. "Maggot Brain" was our anthem. We got High, danced, jammed this album, and cried when. 1973, War had ended, "Cosmic Slop" album, with; "March to the Witch's Castle". Thank You, Eddie Hazel
I listened to this song for the first time yesterday and had an absolutely transcendent experience. It brought me to tears as I barreled down the i89 North in Vermont. Listened to it about 8 or 9 times since then. Thanks, Eddie. Rest In Peace, my man.
There is this thing about hearing/experiencing playing of such eloquence and emotion where the line “brought me to tears” carries over to almost everyone of us upon first putting the needle down on Maggot Brain and not being ready to flat out cry listening to a Funkadelic record. Someone took a dare and wrote of "David Gilmore and Eddie Hazel" having similar abilities to not waste a note in being both tasteful and gut wrenching at the same time. Both have charmed tears from these green eyes. I will not further muddy the language of who what best emotional technician perfection and all. We can all say how long it took it took recover after any number moments in hearing of Eddie Hazel and cursing heroin for taking him away from us before the mothership was finished and in control.
Lol this is an amazing song but it is not a wedding song. Do not play this at a wedding. This is a song for funerals and the violent, shrieking end of humanity.
Couple of people giving it the cannot compare Eddie Hazel to Hendrix line I've seen people spout which irritates me no end. I see it like this. They are both great and I'm sure Eddie was hugely influenced by Hendrix. For me Hendrix's obsessive studio perfectionism meant he was technically untouchable at the time. But when Eddie Hazel starts playing its rougher round the edges but you feel every single note is screaming from his heart. So much flow to it. Eddie gives me goose bumps when I hear him. Have some respect. He's in the same league to my ears and always will be.
He constantly re-recorded everything again and again out of tune or not until it was exactly how he wanted it. No one else could tell the difference between virtually identical takes. Drove Chas Chandler up the wall...
One thing about Hendrix; he learned fast. Paul McCartney found that out when he went to one of Hendrix's concerts. It took us six weeks to learn Sergeant Pepper's lonely Heart's Club Band. Here Hendrix hears it on Friday and plays it on Monday. Eddie Hazel started out as a mediocre guitar player. The older he became, the better guitar player he became. The last time I saw him in concert. Hazel ranked up there with the great ones.
I like hendrix but i keep coming back to eddie's playing again and again because of that raw emotion hendrix had skill but nobody does emotion like eddie.
I got to hear this song live with Michael Hampton playing lead. I was standing right next to this gigantic speaker and when he got to playing everything around me dissapeard! All I could do was become one with the music. It took me to a high no drug could EVER reach!
I first discovered this masterpiece right after my mom, who was my world, passed… 12 years ago… At first it was too hard to listen all the way through, I would be a crying mess halfway… but today 2024, I can listen in a awe of such a beautiful piece and play, though it still hits hard, but at least I can listen all the way now 🙏🏽🤎
Eddie is the inventor of this manipulation of the electric guitar...this beautiful tortured sound came from him!!!!! TALENT BEYOND TALENT!! ALL OTHERS FOLLOWED!
+T Stanton Sad to say but part of it went with Hazel. Wish I'd known more about him when he was alive. I mean, this was the guy some people considered the true heir of Hendrix.
greg raines yes they did hazel got caught up in drugs a d wild behavior and being in a group with too many players didnt help none plus when this was filmed he was battling cancer
Lol, where has common sense gone? You have to LOOK for good music in EVERY genre, because the mainstream for every genre is shit. Just look into real artists like Denzel Curry, polyphia, and chon who get half the recognition for being more talented and actually stepping outside of what their "genre" predetermines their music to sound like
By the time 6 minutes hits, I feel the endorphins course across my soul, and a smile arches up to catch the tears. This particular heavy ass version to me, shows the pain an artist has endured to create and share something this beautiful, but also, the angst felt along the way for that having to be the case. I guess, what the hell do I know? It sure does move me. Much love!!
......Jimi would have made a sloppy mess of it..........but imagine these brothers playing it....:Tony Macalpine!!...or Greg Howe!!.....or Tosin Abasi..............WHOA!!!!
Oh you know you just lied to your self.Your know Jimi Hendrix was a pure original he revolutionize the rock guitar.Jeff Beck,Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page could'nt touch Hendrix . And the these unknown rejects Tony Macalpine and whats his name Greg Howe should'nt even be mention here.Remember this Hendrix was a musical god and don't you forget it.
Nathan,Hendrix was indeed a real trail blazer and true innovator........but his playing was often very sloppy,he often played out of tune...and was just plain sloppy most times... and so he relied on theatrics and flashy wardrobe.....that being said, let me assure you...he could not in a million years do what Greg Howe, Tony Macalpine, or Tosin Abosi does on guitar.....he shouldn't be even mentioned in the same breath as these brothers..he did not possess the technical ability...nor the knowledge of the fretboard....but let it also be said, without Hendrix, they may never have picked up the guitar.......because Hendrix was an inspiration to most of todays great players for sure......btw... iv'e never been a big fan of beck, clapton,or page...especially page...so why did you even bring them up?..i never mentioned them...and yes hendrix probably would smoke clapton, beck, and page, because they're all cut from the same cloth.
Ronald you know nothing about music. You say Hendrix played sloppy who are you a expert on how to play a electric rock guitar...lol Hendrix had his own style of playing just like a lot of professional rock guitar players no on plays a like.Do Eric Clapton play like Jeff Beck ? Sloppy or not Hendrix created music that is still heard today.Real musical experts still don't understand how Hendrix got those feedbacks sounds.Your problem you can't accept or really don't understand Hendrix music and technique. How can you when it's his personal style...lol No Hendrix was not traditionally school in guitar playing. But didn't need it either.Because Hendrix was ordain with a gift from god to be the best rock guitar of his era.And he succeed in so many ways. That's why he was voted the best rock guitar player of all time.A pure original.Who cares but you that Hendrix had a unorthodox way of playing. That playing created master pieces like Machine Gun,Red House,The Star Spangled Banner and etc.etc.Who wants a school guitar player you restricted to notes and scales.Hendrix did'nt need all that he was musically set free from a music book.He was like Miles Davis,Charlie Parker ,Louis Armstrong they broke the rules musically and they created master pieces. And If Hendrix play sloppy as you say Ronald well let me play sloppy and create music that will influence rock guitar players for generations to come.Just like the great Jimi Hendrix.
Started getting back into metal and decided I'm gonna pick up a guitar and pass off the hip hop production and rapping for now. For some reason I thought of Eddie hazel out of nowhere and I'm like damn, I wanna play like him
Maggot Brain is a state of mind. If I had a favorite song this could be it. I love it so much. R.I.P Eddie Hazel I want thank Praxis and Buckethead to open the door for me to listen & hear more Funkadelic music. Love the music
Simply the best instrumental song I have ever heard, an I listen to AL DIMEOLA SANTANA, PRINCE,JOHN MCLAUGHLIN JIMI JUST MIND BLOWING NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I LISTEN TO IT AN BIG UP TO MICHAEL HAMPTON FIRE 😮
You know Dickie Betts just passed away? Better than “Jessica” or “In memory of Elizabeth Reed” or Eric Johnson”Cliffs of Dover” from ACL. SRV Any song or Ritchie Blackmore Any song next one is gonna be Matteo Mancuso but hey you listen to A.M. I love Eddie and Mike as much as the next guy but best…damn.
"when the laws of man are not just , equal and fair. Mother nature comes in and does her thing.." what is going on today in 2020 is a prime example of this truth.
The great thing about this kind of music is that you know the people playing it really made it for the people. If someone took their time to pick up a guitar (or any instrument) and create something with such soul and emotion, such as this song (great studio version and live version) you know they want to convey some sort of emotion or feeling to the listener. This song makes me realize that the universe gained another star, truly great musician. Such emotion. May his should rest in peace. Also, if nobody here has heard "pray my soul" that Hazel did the guitar for, listen to it. It's like this song made love with itself and had a sweet baby of funk
I saw them live in 78/79/and 1980 and anytime I need a good old dose of the funk I pull up these videos on RU-vid This is one hell of a performance..this what the funk is all about..I've been a Funkateer dam near all my life from age 6 in 73 and now it's 2023 and I'm 55 and still get a taste of P-Funk(Parliment/Funkadelic and Booty's Rubberband) everyday they mean the world to me there's nothing better and I STAND ON THAT...I'll have P-Funk played at my home going!!
Although I know the Great Mike Hampton was usually holding it down in Eddie's absence. I just still think when the Great Eddie Hazel was present, he should have been allowed to play Maggot Brain SOLO. Much love and respect to both of these GREATS.
In the 80ties Eddie Hazel was not always up to task of playing consistently. He was a Genius, as was Sky Stone, but not very stable. And Michael Hampton learned to play all of Eddies Stuff coz that is what George Clinton wanted.
@@erikheddergott5514 Still it's too bad for Michael Hampton how much better Eddie Hazel was here when he came in. Hazel was just in a different league altogether. The sheer emotive power generated by the sound he could coax out of a guitar is astounding.
@@JudeMalachi I was there and Michael Hampton had to carry the big load of Hazel Style Guitar Work, Hazel was not the most reliable Live Musician back then, but he sure could release a Firework after Hampton, McKnight and Gary Shider secured the Plattform. We all know that Eddie Hazel was of great Importance of developping the Funkadelic Formula but for the George Clinton's Parliafunkadelicement Allstars other Bandmembers had to carry more Weight then Eddie.
THIS SADDENS ME. I befriended Eddie in Sherman Oaks 2 yrs before his death and I truely never knew his talent.Sure I knew he played for Parliment and when I would go to his house his guitar would be there on a stand and I only asked him 1 time to play a little something which he did with no amp, then put it down and we walked away to where we were headed and it was only after his death and me being online and doing some research that I finally found out who he really was, A monster guitar player. I miss you Eddie
@@bushtales I just saw your reply. and thank you very much for your nice words. Yes I do like the tribute and I wish I could see a lot more but I don't think there is much out there on Eddie. What a shame to. Man I still kick my own ass for never documented Eddie since I had 100% access to him but I guess its just like Eddie Van Halen I had access to him as well and you always never think about someone dying.. damn!
I remember listening to this song at 3am in my room with the lights off, falling asleep on the floor after it was done, then waking up in the morning to my mom telling me my grandma had died. I've felt like crying every time I've listened to it since.
A coworker of mine recommended this song I initially brushed it off but as I was getting ready for work I noticed the paper I wrote her suggestion on the table after the first couple of guitar rifts I did not regret searching for this song
Due respect to Mr. Eddie Hazel, good as Hendrix, No Comparison, you can't compare guitar players who play guitar. Hendrix, Hazel soul played from the depthness we will never understand. We only feel the sound of their thought, but we''ll never be able to grasp where it came from within. This is what separate all musician, over and over time again!!!! Rory Gallagher, late guitar player of Chile Pepper's, Stevie Ray Vaughn, many more, and still you'll see the vanguard holding the opened door!!!! James Marshall Hendrix. R I P all you great Guitar Players . Depth of a Soul can never be compared
One take. One man. One emotion. One of the most influential pieces of music ever written. Eddie Hazel is/was more talented than Hendrix in every sense of the word.
quite the opposite! Hazel keeps stepping over all the other guy, who actually is very accuartely playing the original lead note for note. Hazel couldnt play his own song. they should have not let him play at all. He messed it all up.
Few know that Prince was heavily inspired by this guy. Eddie's gone, Gary's gone and Glenn's gone, but George is still here, as they are and will forever be. So underrated.
Dennis chamber on the drums I ran into Dennis twice in Baltimore MD 👍 🎶 very nice man and then I got to play with some guys who turned out to be funkadelic and I didn't know it until we finished playing drums at a rehearsal lol 😆😏👍 💯 thanks for teaching me how to do it peace 💀💀👁👁💀💯✌🏴👹😎😱
Eddie Hazel does Maggot Brain as if he was playing for the chance to show the one person on the planet who hadn't heard the best love song with teeth ever written. This is for Angelena & myself. My middle 8 ejeculated over the 'look at me' brigade. Impressed my girl who silently listened out of my view. We then knew Hazel was king. Luv you Funkadelic. Luv you A.F.Lovecraft. We burned so bright
