Eddie Muller's intro to "Pickup on South Street" (1953) on TCM Noir Alley 

Thelma Ritter's death scene is one of the most memorable on film. If you remember nothing from this film, you will remember this scene.

Fuller did some great films and had an amazing life.

Richard Widmark in this film and Night and The City were the best examples of a noir protagonist.

Fuller had such a wide range. He could make films from "The Big Red One" to "White Dog". Gritty stuff.

What a beautiful girl and what a great year for Jean Peters 1953 was. In addition to Pickup on South Street she was magnificent in Niagara, A Blueprint For Murder and Vicki. I get sad just imagining how much longer my film noir collection would have been if she hadn't married Howard Hughes.

This movie was remade in 1967 and set in South Africa. It starred Jacqueline Bisset and Claire Trevor. I'll get the title eventually. Also, the ONLY time I've seen Richard Kiley in a bad-guy role.

one of the only Noir films I've seen were the criminal/anti-hero not only lives Scott-free at the end...he gets the girl and snubs the angry cop

This story is not only filled with holes, none of the characters are likable and the circumstances are beyond absurd. But Thelma Rittter is good and Jean Peters is hot.

Brilliant, but I have one objection. This was not the First time Fuller cast a big star. He also cast Vincent Price in his "noir" Western, The Baron Of Arizona.

I honestly think Jean Peters being casted on the role of "Caty" was a good choice, definitely better than Monroe. And Selma Ritter was simply the standout of the movie 👏🏾
