I passed my driving test in November 1982. This is the first song ( it had just got to No 1 in the UK Charts ) on the car radio when I was driving alone, legally for the first time. Great memories.
+goldcup11 Yeah, songs make everything remember better and when you're driving, more so alone and for the first time ... Unavoidable will stuck in your memory ;)
my generations memories are all gonna be recorded...I'd rather remember the experienced not relive a recording..it only reminds you of so much but if you watch with your eyes you take it in better...this event would b wasted on someone posting to snapchat "just got my Ls jammin to grant" lol... I wish I was born earlier I feel like an old soul...
2024 and this old lady still loves Eddie ❤ I even managed to create a playlist on my tablet . That's my level of dedication because I can barely use a computer 😂
I was a little boy when this track was released. We were bared from the rest of the world due to apartheid, so these records had to be illegally sneaked into South African. Thank you Nelson Mandela for giving us freedom
Heard it ages ago and it just came in my head, has anyone listened to it on Spotify and thought it sounded different to this video. I much prefer this videos version
This guy has a serious talent, cracking vocals and memorable tracks, one of the most underrated male artists, but clearly one of the best. Thanks Eddie for the brilliant tracks and happy memories.
i lived round the corner from Eddie,he lived in Aston birmingham,i live in Erdington Birmingham,he's so down 2 earth and such a talent........BRUM Town stand up!!
Eddy Grant is a legend and such a lovely man, the music in the 80's was simply brilliant. We met him yesterday outside of the BBC, very happy to talk to people, sign autographs and have a photo, he was so lovely 🤗😘
went to the Caribbean a couple of years ago for a holiday, loved it, the people were so friendly it was the best holiday i ever had, when all this covid crap is over im back over there asap
My ship went to Grand Bahama & I was able to take my bicycle with me. It was getting late & I wanted to get back for evening chow & that’s when a group of young children going home from school wanted me to take their picture I had a 35mm with me. I was out of film in the camera but I didn’t let them know that. They were so cute & posed for me in a group shot. I pretended to take their picture. Wish I had another couple of more pictures I could have taken!
This song was my first experience with reggae a couple of years ago! Now I listen to ska, raggae, dub and I have a reggae-collection of over 500 songs. Eddy Grant changed my life. Bless his soul!
Reminds me of being at primary school. Remember watching this on Top of the Pops. Such innocent times when all of my grandparents were alive. I’d love to go back.
Exactly I remember watching this as a little kid and thinking this song is soo freaking awesome.. oh and yes I watched this at my grandparents house.. miss them heaps..
+Ellie Williamson the good old days , no bill's , just getting pocket money every week , we did have to walk to school though and switch the telly over when our parents asked us ha ha
I just said the same thing, except I was always dancing in front of my mirror, me and my mirror, So fun!! My friends weren't into dancing as i was, except, my brother's girlfriend who danced like a crazy ass, in a good way, we had so much fun!! We danced to B52's in Detroit and David Bowie and, and and, those were the best times!!! Someone, my brother's friend hauled off and took my huge album collection when I was going to college, they were worn out, anyway, RIP
Kool likewise I use to have sneaky jive to myself in my bedroom whilst my sister and my mum n dad were down-stairs ..my mum caught me one time I had my sister's hair-brush as a micro-fone singing my little tonsils off 😮..I've never blushed so much ☺️ ..my face blushed as bad as this ..😠 haha 🤣 was about 7yr old at the time ..😎
It was 6 years ago ... I was riding a bus, a very long ride ... This song was on the radio. I didn't have access to the Internet at the time and my phone was old. I wanted to memorize the song and find it one day. All I could do was write a few words from the song on a piece of paper. My English was bad but I understood the words “I don’t wanna dance”. Then I put the piece of paper in my pocket. I continued to enjoy the song in hopes of finding it on the youtube one day. When I got home I put that piece of paper somewhere, however, a few days later I couldn’t find it. I couldn’t remember where I put it and I thought I lost it. I gave up the search ... I was sad because I didn't remember the lyrics or the rhythm or anything ... I thought there was no way I could ever find it again because ... How do I find it? What to search on youtube? 6 years later, today ... I am cleaning my house because I am moving to another country. In one box I found a piece of paper that said "I dont want to dance." I didn’t know what it was exactly and I wanted to throw it away. Many times I have written things on a piece of paper, notes, things like that. Knowing myself something was telling me to search it on RU-vid and I did it. I can’t describe how happy I am, when i realized that it's the song i once lost. I just listened to the song. Beautiful, brings back memories😁😁😁😁
Heard it for the first time on vinyl in 1989, it reminds me of happier times with my friends from the hood, listening to great music and always chasing the latest trick/tail.
Damn right! I tried three different versions and they were all this same lame cover version but misleadingly they were called Eddie Grant even though it was obviously not him! remove this awful cover and replace it with the real McCoy
