This track dates to 1977! DJ's picked it up in 1981, rereleased in 1982. 1977 for those who can imagine what these sounds mean back then....... light years ahead I would say.
This is when dancing was truly dancing. No damn twerking. I learned how to dance at Paradise Garage Zanzibar. We went to the clubs to work out. Amazing memories.
I remember when I would DJ... Electro Hop, Hip Hop, Old School, Funk and even Disco house parties in the 90's... I would spin this vinyl on my Technics, and people would go crazy. Back then, I had dudes and homies poplockin' to this jam by Eddy Grant.
@@Skoshi33 "Genuine house music.."? WTF? Go somewhere young buck with your lack of knowledge!! House Music as you know it wasn't even a thought back when we were first rockin' this...boy you young folks irritate me with that shit!! smdh
Derrick Landers i think the correct description would be early 4/4 tracks like this laid the foundations if house which would evolve 4/5 years after this was released. Jesse Saunders released 1st house track in Chicago 1984 ish
@@derricklanders7260 Why should one not call this type of music "house music"? The term "house music" was initially referred to the WareHOUSE Club in Chicago where exactly this type of music was played, a mixture of underground disco, funk, soul, electro. Chicago had its "house music", NY its "garage music", sound signatures of the respective locations and cultures. both were very similar.
Philly party days at Catacombs too! The sound system was designed by the same people who designed the Paradise Garage's! Catacombs was a smaller venue but without the Crazy of the Paradise Garage! 👌
I worked at my cousins restaurant The Discovery At SOHO on 451 Broome Street and on the way to work at night I would drop my neighbor off at The Garage. I don’t like crowds unless I’m part of the crew working an event. I was always amazed at the line and my neighbor would stand on the line over one city block just to hear Levan. My brother knew Levan. Till the day I always tried to figure out why I don’t like crowds unless I’m part of the working crew.
I was introduced to Frankie and got to hear him about 4 times out here in SF. I think he also played at the Sound factory bar in NYC in the mid 90’s. RIP Frankie Knuckles.
Back in 1983, I deejayed at a roller rink and often played this 45 during the limbo. I sought for unique-sounding songs instead of just playing “Limbo Rock” over and over. It was amusing hearing the kids utter, “Do Do Do Do Do Do Do!” I would’ve bought Eddy Grant’s album except “Time Warp” wasn’t on the LP (only the cassette version).
I love this music. I had the actual cassette tape with this, Electric Avenue, War Party, It’s all in you on it. One of the best albums of all-time in my book.
You have to be intentionally or musically deaf to not hear Eddy Grant's Time Warp in Stylo by The Gorillaz. And I like Stylo. Because the minute I heard it I knew exactly what it was sampling from. Because I know my music.
@@mrsm222 Gorillaz didn’t sample it though lol maybe learn the terminology if you claim to “know your music” Stylo was produced ground up from scratch. Maybe they took inspiration from this even if it was subconscious and they didn’t realize it it’s 100% not pulling any samples from this though lol.
DJ Larry Levan! RIP Greatest DJ Ever! This Is One Of Those Songs That You Have to Get Down! I mean Way Down And Dance Your You Know what I mean! OooooooooooooooooooooooooooShucky Know! 8/8/15.
Paradise Garage (NYC), The Loft (NYC), Bonds (NYC), Club Zanzibar (NJ), Docks, (NJ), Club Sensations (NJ)....A staple in each of those venues for sure.
All those annoying kids here... Of course, it has some similarities... And I think those are interesting. I do not know if they really copied. For a musician, it is very hard to not copy something. There are millions of songs out there and normally, you inspire yourself by listening to those. When you sit down then to write a song, it is hard to differentiate between own imagination and recreation of a previous heard song.
It's the same with lyrics. And believe me, trying to come up with a melody of your own takes quite a few years or so. Nowadays it's easy to use the same instruments to come up with different notes in a DAW.
This club classic will never die out it's way before it's time till this day I always have this on deck, this will get a party started (DJ PRECISE tri- state)
I had a hard time finding out the name of this hot jam and i finally got it and downloaded it to my phone so now i have a total of 158 jams mostly house music AKA garage music
Si bien Gorillaz uso este Sample en Stylo... Creo que como recíprocidad género que yo llegara a escuchar esto que no lo conocía en absoluto... Una mano lava la otra y las 2 lavan la cara.
Yeah, similar, not identical. There’s tons of music that has a similar part to another piece. Imagine how many lawsuits there would be if someone decided a Gmaj chord on a guitar belonged to THEIR song.
That similarity you hear is a RING MOD... Different synths, different autopanning. Anyway this song sounds like a generic ripoff of some earlier eurofunk like Brian Bennett or the 1972 sound machine album. . .
Just listen to the tune and appreciate it who cares who's what serious people say I'm up and dancing to this oldskool sound 🎵🎉♥️🌹♥️🎉🎵2/1/2021 #HappyNewYear 🎁
@@NiteGrooves the song from 74 was called nobody's got time Eddy Grant it was not a dance song had no groove in 77' a group produced by Eddy added a dance groove and re released it with Vocals as nobody's got time by Coach House Rhythm Section and as an instrumental under Time warp Eddy re released Time Warp as the B side to Electric Avenue in 1982
Trying really really hard to find a similarity with Gorillaz' Stylo. A bouncing synth bass in a minor pentatonic scale that has probably been done a million times before and since Timewarp? What a stretch.
This song is closer the intro to the show "In Search of..." he's better off suing them or them suing him, this was both out the same year, too lazy to search specific dates....
Yeah... GORILLAZ "STYLO" bit a hard chunk out of this for the meat of the track & since it was handled privately back in 2010, I'm sure Eddie got his dues!!! When I first heard STLYO, I said to myself... I HEARD THIS SOUND BEFORE & come to find out that it's this lol
