The first video went so well that I was ready to start driving this car everywhere. Well, I ran into a little problem and it is called a "Fuel pressure regulator". The in-tank pump puts out pressure and flow light years more that this carbureted set up will ever need. I had to go back to a mechanical pump that was on the engine. This was the very first time I have ever been stranded on the side of the road in the Lizard King This made me sad.

Just did a cold start video of my new VRS 4150. It started better than my old carb with choke.

Thank you for posting this video. There are not many guys following up on the VRS after installation, just dumb unboxing videos. That regulator looks like a Chinese made one. Why not get a Holley or an expensive American made unit and if you do not have a return line, install one. It is possible to install it in the round sheet metal that holds the fuel pick up that fills the hole in the gas tank. It is not impossible with any gas tank. I have had the most issues with mechanical pumps and they operate of the already burdened camshaft. No one check fuel pump pressure and vacuum. If a mechanical pump makes 6 psi, it should pull about 6 inches of mercury. No, one does not guarantee the other as common sense may tell you. I used to have a Pinto that would stall out with no regularity, at different speeds, idling, flat or inclined ground, just when it felt like it. I learned of the pressure/vacuum issue from a man that maintained a fleet of State Police cars. It was eye opening. It made pressure, would pump about one ounce per stroke but had little to no vacuum. After 3 fuel pumps was finally fixed. I wish Stewart Warner still made their piston pump. You could run 2 of them if you needed more volume. One of my customers had a 6 cylinder Mustang. He asked me to come to his house as his issue was gasoline pouring out of the valve cover breather. Can you say bad diaphragm? I like the electric pumps and the fuel pickups can be modified to do what you want or need. Nice slant 6.

What kind of pump are you running in the tank, a pump for fuel injection??? 🤔 Just a standard electric pump mounted on the frame ahead and just in line or slightly below the tank level is more than sufficient for any old carbureted car. Set your regulator @ 5-7 PSI, whatever the carburetor will tolerate and you shouldn't have any problems.

I had a regulator fail on my 16 lter cat . i used the port on the regulator to the turbo so boost would iincrease fuel psi at the injection pump and it failed and was pumping fuel into my turbo feeding my 800 hp cat to a run away causing the head gasket to blow lucky for me it was scary ride . i will never use a pressure regulator again for any multi purpose where failure is destructive

I was impressed by the gauges on the old car--except for the tach, it's a pretty complete set.

Is that the 3.6? I'm considering dropping the 3.8 with manual 'box in to my '66 VC Valiant. I've got the 3.3 in my Voyager, and they're the spiritual successor to the Slant - keep them serviced and change the timing chain at 300k Km, and they just keep going. 3.3 is FWD only, 3.8 comes in RWD out of the Jeeps,.. and I really like the idea of a stripped down interior with vinyl mats and a 'four speed' marked shifter handgrip on a 5 or 6 speed 'box.

@@PiDsPagePrototypes yeah, Dave is running a 3.6 pentastar, backed by a t5 transmission.

@@75slant6 Reading the ForAbodieOnly page linked on one of his videos, he didn't spot the option with the back end of the factory six-speed manual. They use the same transfer case on the Jeeps 5 and 6 speed manuals as they do on 4WD GM products, and the bolt pattern for the transfer case to the gearbox is the same on manuals and auto's in GM's, so the 2WD extension housing from a GM automatic, can be machined to remove a flange and then bolts straight on the back of the Jeep manual - I found this by accident when looking at putting an NVG3550 behind a Slant Six - The NVG3550 also shares the same input shaft pilot bush diameter, and length from pilot bush to transmission, as the BW 3speeds used here, so I can shave the back end of a stock bell housing, use the Valiant flywheel and Pressure plate, the Jeep Friction Plate and hydralic throw-out unit, and an adapter plate between the bell housing and gearbox, then use (IIRC) a Turbo 400 extension housing to make the rear end 2wd.

@@PiDsPagePrototypes dude! That’s good to know! I’m not sure that I’ll ever be doing a 3.6 swap (and if I do, I’ll likely use the 8 speed auto) but the more options and info for these swaps, the better!

I love your experimentation and wish I had your skills. I currently have an Offenhauser manifold, Holley 350 4bbl, dual Hooker headers on my slant six Barracuda...and love the idea of putting that Edelbrock on it. Is your VRS the 650cfm?

That fuel line around the front, past all that rotating hardware, never made sense to me. Why not have the pump in the tank feed the mechanical pump with a return feed?, so the mechanical one only sucks as much as it needs.
@SlantDailyGarage
@SlantDailyGarage Год назад
This is way more simple plus I am only using 5% of this carb's potential so extra fuel is not needed here. Thanks for the idea and for watching.
