Even if I'm a guy, i love to wear this perfume... And i don't see that as a problem, most of girls wear male fragrances... Expect this perfume, i also love Paloma Picasso, Opium, Charlie Blue etc. I find them as unisex perfumes and they suits me very well. Also, i love your reviews and the way how you describe notes. Good job Man! ❤️😃
This perfume made my life...I remember my older sister wearing it during her teenage hood when I was only 4 and this scent stayed in my memory...I never knew what's the name of this perfume till one day I stopped at The Perfume Shop to check what's new and I saw there was a sale on this perfume and tried and smelled it since i'm a huge fan of floral perfumes and I directly had a flashback of my sister wearing it and hiding it from me...I bought it and never stopped using it...This fragrance is so strange and kind of attractive that even my friend asked for the name of this perfume when she smelled it on me I refused to tell her I just didn't want her to copy me and use this fragrance too cause I think a fragrance is kind of personal and it's not cause she's my friend means she has to use it too but she loved it so much that I think she looked in my purse while I was away to know the name of this fragrance and one day when I was visiting her I saw the bottle on her shelf...This is strange some people tell me they've got migraine smelling it and some gets crazy about it and really compliment me about my perfume...I think this perfume is kind of a mystery...I would die if this would be discontinued...I'm 25 today and since I'm a kid I'm in love with this fragrance...I couldn't live without it...it's my signature scent when my family or friends smells it they know i'm around :D
Sadly here in South Africa its discontinued but i am on the last bottle.I wore this in my teenage years when it came out it just represents my resilient side.I just enjoy wearing it👑🥰
I've purchased this parfum after using the cacharel anais anais. The reviews online were mixed, but, have decided to give it a try anyway: at first it has an heavy earthy scent, but, once it's on your skin for about 30 minutes it's the most beautiful unique fragrance that lasts for ages. My husband didn't appreciate it at first, but, loves it now. You either love it, or don't. But, for me- what a classic!
I haven't smelt the vintage but I'm like well the modern one smells so entrancing, weird, hypnotic, mysterious, dangerous, deadly, transcendental, alluring so how can another version smell anymore mindblowing than this? Eden so weird, so captivating, it puts a spell on you and takes you to a forbidden place. God its magic.
I love this one. I am a middle aged man and love this. I remember when it came out, I was working for John Lewis beauty dept at the time!! I love the bottle too..each one is unique!!
The way I found this perfume is weird 😂 I'm a doctor and one of my patients was wearing it and the whole hospital was filled with her scent, I had to ask her and she was so proud of this perfume
I'm not familiar with the little green peaches hehe. This is definintley a strong one but used sparingly can be very beautiful!! Don't be afraid hehe. Embrace Eden. Be brave!
Great video and great channel! I love perfume so much it's a lifelong love of mine. Eden is such a beautiful perfume in my opinion and it's my favourite from the 90s. It always takes me back to my childhood. My aunt used to wear this when I was growing up and whenever she came to stay with us I remember just being able to smell this perfume all over the house, not in an overpowering or sickly way though, but just a stunning aroma. Whenever I wear this perfume people often stop me and say 'Awww I remember smelling that perfume EVERYWHERE in the 90s but never knowing the name of it' lol. 90s perfumes will never go out of style
It's a very special one for sure! But also very polarizing. It repulses people or...it entrances them, and that's the appeal to me. It's so incredibly unique. love it!
Thanks!! Ya know, I probably wouldn't use anything with this. It's so beautifully complex and unusual that it doesn't need anything else. It's a one of kind and I honestly think it should be kept that way. A good idea would be to get some unscented lotion in your hand, spray some Eden into it and apply. It might bring out some different notes! Eden scented lotion. :)
Éden by Cacharel is an unusual fragrance with a teasing familiarity about it. It is largely cinnamony with alternating citrusy notes, which gradually settle to somewhat synthetic floral base notes. It is these notes that some have described as "burnt rubber or plastic". But it is very subtle. You just have got to be a bit patient and allow the far grace to make friends with your skin. Finally, the fragrance dries down to give off a mild yet noticeable sweet fruity vanilla flavour, not without a resonant cinnamoniness- one of its prominent top notes. The underlying familiarity is perhaps due to my past experience with an almost identical yet a much more potent juice: Jungle L'Éléphant by Kenzo. It's a very good fragrance in a very intimidating way. It makes you want to apply it but with a bit of dithering, for it's a scent to reckon with. You don't want to use it in a hurry or without careful thought or planning. The difference between the two scents is while Éden displays it's varying notes unequivocally and gradually mellows, L'Éléphant dominates with its pungent spicy cinnamony floral which lasts like forever. When all is said and done, sample the fragrance first and study it several times until you are satisfied. This is a mood fragrance- you won't want to use it if you are stressed out or are angry. And never put on any scent as if you were taking a medicine. Revel in the experience of spraying a scent. For my part, I am not sure if I will buy Éden once I have got through with the current bottle. Like I said, it is an awe-inspiring and a sort of pleasurably fearsome "parfum". And never judge a book by its cover, as the saying goes. The unprepossessing bottle is no indication at all of the kind of stuff it contains. If you are the brave adventurous sort, then go for it, but get the 30 or so ml bottle first. Build a relationship with it, see if you can have a affair with it, then you'll know if you have fallen in love with it. A pointer: moderation is the name of the game. If you feel that you have overdone it, spray on something fresh, grassy and citrusy. Something "aqua" to counterbalance the effects.
Wow, I'm so glad you did this review... I really like Eden, and I really like the perfumes from the 90s. I saw you saying more than one time, I think, that it's your favorite decade in the perfume history and I have to agree, so many beautiful creations... by the way, could you review more of them? Amarige, Dune, Dolce Vita, Cabotine, I love them so much! Ok, back to Eden. Tuberose is one my favorite notes, as well as patchouli. It's really sad that they keep reformulating perfumes, indeed, but I still prefer to wear reformulated fragrances than some sugary poor perfumes from these days. Really...
Hi there. Yes! It's definitely my favourite time period of perfume. I have done a few so far. I will be doing Dolce Vita in the near future as I have the vintage version! It's beautiful. :)
After reading a plethora of negative reviews of this, I decided to try it for myself because I tend to enjoy fragrances that everybody else despises (Angel, Womanity, Boudoir). I found this to be very pleasant, yet it has a pungent, off-putting mossy, moist patchouli accord that is definitely strange. I adore mimosa, and along with the patchouli and I believe water lotus are the most prominent notes to my nose.
+Alcoholic Nun It's very different, but I really appreciate it's strangeness. If you ever smell the vintage version then...gosh..you will see. It's very very strong and complex. It's great. The new version is great too, but less scary. :)
Eden is most interesting perfume I have. I can’t compare this to other perfumes. Inspite of having 90 different perfumes. I am wearing it now, after having my shower with ‘Cotton Mimosa from Yves Rocher’. It’s raining now and it fits very well with this kind of weather indeed. LouLou from Cacharel is also a very interesting perfume!
enjoyed this review VERY much :) i purchased a bottle of eden today, just because i was feeling nostalgic. i received my first bottle as a christmas present in 1995 and have adored it ever since. i love how difficult it is to describe. i´ve never gotten a rude reaction though, more like "what IS this?" :D - i wonder if you could recommend a body lotion i could use with this?
thank you for answering. YES, i will do exactly that with an unscented lotion. going to wear it this evening - girls night out :D moderation is the key! must keep that in mind. thanks again! have a nice weekend!
Hi Tom, great review I have to say I've always avoided even picking this up purely because of the ugly bottle (stupid of me I know) I run to Boots when I get a spare minute to smell the perfumes you have recommended I really enjoy your reviews. I'll be looking for Eden this weekend x
Thanks! Be prepared for Eden, it can be a bit of a shocker when you first smell it. It took me a while to learn to love it but now I appreciate it for it's unusual and weird tones. :)
Enjoying your wonderful reviews as always..... question - in your opinion is there any vintage fragrance where the reformulation is actually better or as good as the original?
That;s a tough one, they are few and far between. The only one I can think of that isn't totally butchered is Insolence by Guerlain the purple one. It feels like it's not been reformulated at all. :)
Well, they have it back..2021..Probably even more refurmulated than before. I want to try it. I like unique smells, daring. I hope it performs well though. Thanks for the reviews
This is my most favourite all time fragrance of all time! Nothing compares, it's so unique and it's been my signature fragrance for many years. I've tried many perfumes and I always come back to Eden, its delicious 😊 xx
You have to acquire a taste for Eden. It reminds me of Christmas time month of December 94 everyone smelled of it. It was everywhere mammoth advertising. I thought that it was awful and used to conspire with friends on who to gift it to for a laugh. Then later I really fell in love with it. It brings back fun happy memories 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just got Eden today! Thanks Thomas for your amazing reviews! To me Eden smells similar to Montale Chypre Fruite, only much more well-balanced (ha!)). This is what I wanted Chypre Fruite to smell like when I bought it )
Wow, another one I forgot that I wore back in the day - so much fun watching your old videos :) It sounds like the reformulation of Eden has too much peach in it for me. For unknown reasons I have become very sensitive to peach - it easily makes me queasy. Tested Beyonce's Heat the other day and almost died, lol.
Eden is next on my list, my fiance also loves 90s frags of all kinds like I do and this one is right up his alley. He's not a fan of super sweet stugf like Pink Sugar although my tastes runs the gamut from that to the oakmoss monster that is vintage Magie Noire. He loves Angel too and im almost out and want to try this out so.. 🌱
Eden is such a dusty, fresh woody, flower bomb! I have an old bottle and it still performs beautifully (and loudly) Can you please review also the Anais Anais by Cacharel?
Thank you for this. I had the original when it was first released and just yesterday threw out the contents of the miniature concentrate because it had gone well and truly off! I had the parfum, concentrate, body wash and lotion, back in the day. I loved it! I am debating purchasing it again, but can't find a counter with a tester to see if I like the new version and if I have changed since I was a teenager. I loved the earthy patchouli of the original and used to get complimented on it all the time. Its not easy to find here in Australia and I'm sceptical of an online purchase in case its old stock.
:) A little tip if you are going to buy it on Ebay and want to find the Vintage version. If the logo of "Cacharel" is in a frame, it's the vintage/older version. If not? It's the new one. I managed to win a vintage bottle and it smells fine. The thing with Eden is it is in an opaque bottle as you know so, light doesn't get in. It's a risk, but the vintage version is better in my opinion. :)
ouch110 Thank you so much for that tip! In that case I am going to go on the hunt for one! My mini concentrate was nearly 20 years old and I put it on yesterday while around the house and it was terrible!! So I've discarded it but kept the bottle on display. It is a very bold fragrance, all this is making me want one now :)
ouch110 this is exactly, what I´ve asked to myself! Thank You for Your great rewiew. This is really a love-or-hate scent, I happen to love it and always come back to it (I only own the new one). I don´t know why, I always had an impression, that I smell pepper- a lots of pepper in it....?
I love Eden and just recently I have tried Xerjof Opera and they are 90 percent the same to ny nose. Eden is even better in my opinion, much nicer drydown.
I'm wondering if the old version had oak moss as a base note. Oak moss has become a restricted essential oil in the EU Cosmetic Regulations and has had to be replaced by synthetic alternatives in the perfume world. Oak moss is very very green and earthy and was used a lot as a base note in many perfumes.
I'm not sure it has it in there. It's not a mossy fragrance. There were tons of ingredients that got the chop though. :) I think lots of companies took advantage of that. boooo
My daughter hated this perfume , just before Christmas I got into her car and she said " what perfume you wearing , " I said eden " she said " really , my god I use to hate that , but it's smells gorgeous, " she's asked for bottle in her stocking , 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I have two bottles of this, one I bought by mistake but I have not worn it yet. I don't want to wear it indoors!!! I think it will be too strong. I'm waiting to go to a picnic! Could the bottom of the bottle be the shape if those little green peaches I see being sold in the fruit shop. Maybe they have a very strong fragrance?
Hi Ouch110 I absolutely love Eden. My mom wore it for several years when i was a kid & the second i smell it, It takes me back to me as a ten year old, sitting in the garden laying my head on my moms chest & feeling the sun i my face. Definitely one of those memory filled scents for me! My mom smells absolutely amazing wearing it. I love the smell but i can't wear it in ly mind it's my moms perfume.
Aw such a nice memory. :) It's great when a smell really reminds you of someone. It means you can be reminded of them anytime you want by smelling that perfume. I love and appreciate Eden for what it is. I think it's really misunderstood because it's kinda weird but, I'm deffo a fan! I now have a big bottle of the vintage stuff so I'm all set!
Yes, it's great when a scent can remind you of someone! It's definitely a weird scent, very bold, strong...weird! But i think that's what i love about it!
Did you ever try Eau d’Eden - the clear bottle ? I can’t remember how it smells but know I wore it - seen one for sale and unsure whether to pick it up 😐
Every time I go to boots I smell this and think of buying it but I never actually do for some reason. This and Lou Lou are always on sale for a good price but I never have the courage to go ahead and get them cause I fear I might not wear them and I made a promise I'm only getting fragrances I'm actually going to wear it and not just to keep it in my collection. I do like the smell of Eden cause this is my favourite aunt's signature fragrance and it reminds me a lot of her but I don't know. What's your profile on fragrantica? I'm also there under tuliobessa username :). Cheers :)
I felt exactly the same about both of the fragrances hehe. They are a bit scary but I found that Eden works lovely on damp humid days..so nice! Lou Lou still scares me but..I just really wanted it in my collection. :)
Hey Tom, I’m watching a 3.4 oz of Eden on EBay, Do you think the 3.4 are more vintage? It seems you find more the 1.7 oz than 3.4 oz on eBay. Do you know? I think the larger bottles are truly vintage? Please let me know? I love Melon fragrances.
Me too! What an unusual and outstanding perfume!! I still swoon when I smell it sometimes. It's one of the ones that I go to and smell the sprayer even if I'm not wearing it that day hehe. :)
This creator also made Deci Dela for Nina Ricci.. If you ever smelled that!! Stunning.. Sadly discontinued.. 400 plus to get hands on it..but it also had that other worldly unusual smell.
I used to wear it when it came out, 1994. I was fourteen and loved it. Then i discovered sun moon stars by lagerfeld and have worn that one until now. Now discontinued, im looking for something to replace it. All i see in shops is boring boring boring:(
The fragrances in the 90's were super cool (my fave decade of fragrance) but now you have to search through lots of sweet ones to find something interesting. I would suggest if you love Eden, try sniffing out Nuit De Bakelite by Naomi Goodsir, as well as Pulp by Byredo...if you want greeeeeeen things
i used to have it. actually i didnt like it, but i have a freind who is looking for it. it's a floral- oriental scent. long bottle, black cup. lol...that's all i know. thank you!
I just tried this in boots.. 😦...Nothing like original in its projection... Tried Jean paul gaultier Femme classique at the same time...that is not like original either...thank goodness I have pre reform for both! However.. I inadvertently mixed both frags and they smell gorgeous together!
ouch110 Fragrance Reviews nor me lol...there were limited frag testers in my small local boots store..so I sprayed these two...because they are not the power houses they used to be.. they just blended nicely.. See what you think lol..the Eden of the 90s was something else... I was aghast to smell the reform stand alone.. Very weak.
ouch110 Fragrance Reviews agree...I still liked it and will def buy..hope it's not being discontinued.. It's a delicate smell but still has that something that makes it unique..
Jasna Husejnovic I buy most of my perfume from allbeauty . com. They also have Ebay and amazon accounts under the name of "Online Beauty Buys". They used to be called Cheapsmells but they changed their name. :)
I wonder if you were to smell the vintage and now the “newer” with 10 years age on it since this video, if it has blended into a closer scent of the original. If that makes sense? Lol
Simetimes They have to change it to do with EU laws. Certain ingredients protected, licensed. Givenchy indecence had an ingredient that was natural but under EU law problematic, so had to reformulate and create synthetic wood moss which smelt different and upset ppl and sales plummeted so it was discontinued. 😭
I haven't got that one but I like it. I have a fragrance that is very similar but WAY better in my opinion. It's "Fragonard" by Fragonard. Their signature. It's almost identical to Anais Anais but I love it more. Such a gorgeous quintessentially French floral.
It's really weird today I was on eBay and I saw this perfume for less than $30 and it had a lot of good reviews I hate LouLou I don't want to risk buying this if it smells anything like that
You would think would'nt you, That calling it Eden, they would at least have Apple in the notes? LOL.... anyway I have tested this today and I am on the fence.....I love it one minute and then I dont... Its a reallly strange fragrance.... I tested 2-3 in Boots, and I can smell all the perfumes together......but Eden is above and beyond more fragrant all the others.....All I can really smell is Eden, with a tiny bit of the others fading in the background. I need to test this more than just once to decide if I love it or not... and yes , like you I hate the damn awful ugly bottle....I get a strange feeling that I can smell liquorice......but its not in the notes....but maybe its the lipstick-type smell you can smell?
Anne North It's definitely one that grows on you. I found myself just thinking about it quite a lot and REALLY wanting to have it in my collection. (at the back..behind the prettier bottles haha) I'm glad I do have it though, I wear it when it rains and is muggy and it just fits SO well. It's the ugly duckling in my collection but I wouldn't be without it. The lipstick feel I think comes from the combination of fleshy fruits...and weird flowers. It's a strange beast but weirdly beautiful.
ouch110 Fragrance Reviews I had the paper test strip in my bag, opened my bag this morning to go to work and WHAM......it hit me..... I can actually still smell it and its more than 24 hours since I sprayed it. I have found today that I cant leave it alone for some reason, I keep dragging that strip out of my bag and sniffing it. I have ordered a 30ml bottle because I think this is going to have to be in my collection because its kind of haunting me! I think it will probably be a 'spray-and-walk-through', and possibly just one spritz of it will be enough. I am just like you in that I cant put my finger on any particular note, but I do keep smelling that Liquorice smell. ??? I think my description of this would be Haunting..... :)
Anne North See? It's done the same to you as it did me. I also have a 50ml bottle of the vintage formulation and lemme tell you...THAT is a one spray and walk through thing. This one I think is tamer. I need to go home and put some on now after my shower. All this Eden talk is making me pine for it again. (it really does haunt me hehe). :)
