I've seen Eden live twice and she was amazing. She was just having an off day a lot of musical actors do. The two times I saw the show she blew me away. Her and Idina are my favorite Elpaba's
i love eden espinosa! my family went to see wicked, and afterward, we met her and she was so nice! she gave us her autograph and we got a picture! she is just amazing!
An example of how demanding these songs are. Anyone who takes on the role of Elphaba I give props to each time, because the technique and support and preparation for Elphaba is imperative because these power anthems (The Wizard and I, Defying Gravity, and No Good Deed) are so demanding. The Frog in her throat said, "Girl you thought, but until you get warmed up, you ain't gonna meet the wizard." Every woman who played this role, from Idina and beyond, I give y'all kudos each time.
I can totally relate to this. This happens to everyone. At least people can see this and know that not everyone is fucking perfect. Everyone has off days. Eden is fucking amazing
exactly. OMG i can't believe someone has put a thumbs down on our comments. Its edens video and we're supporting her and people are having a go at us for it. They're should watch someone else sing if they've got a problem.
Its so very obvious that she was sick, so why are we even discussing it? instead, we should congratulate her on powering through and being as gracious and charismatic as always.

Poor Eden. You could see the fear on her face as she got closer to the end. She knew she wasn't going to make it. She even popped into her head voice at one point instead of belting which still ruins it but I love her anyway. This was just an off performance. As for people saying it was wrong of them to make her belt that early are ridiculous. Have you ever heard of an early morning talk show? They always have broadway performers sing on their shows. Especially the ones in NYC.
I was sitting next to Eden Espinosa!!!! yesterday at Disneyland Sept 5 during the second showing of Fantasmic. She was there with her family. I did took a couple of pics of her, but i try not to bother her because she try not to be seen. anyways that was awesome! she was there to see the new dragon!
on paper it may look that way, but Eden was the original Standby for Idina on broadway, many people dont know that. - and Rent she auditioned for it long before wicked, and when Rent was closing, the producers gave her a call because they wanted her to close it.

Poor Eden! So professional at the very end though, smile and act as if nothing wrong happened. Smart move to go into head voice for "TEAM"...she probably should have stayed in head voice for the final "The Wizard, and I" and just used to mic for dynamic power. I just love how the recovery was so professional. I would have had my face hanging on the floor. How sad when your vocal power is so" much more than she was able to display. Love you Eden...so you at the Pantages!
Haha I am in this video! Ya when they are talking about Wicked Wednesday's and showing clips from Universal, I am there and you can see me. So cool! And Eden is awesome. She was just a little horse that's all. Serioulsy do you know how many show she's done and how much she has sang? It's wasn't even that bad guys. Barely noticable. No need to make a big deal of it. She's an amazing singer!
I have horrible reflux I have to fight through sometimes as well, and thats exactly what it does to my high belt if I dont treat it well. But it could just also be vocal fatigue. No matter what, she's 10 times the singer compared to most people I've heard. I saw her play this role many times in Wicked, and her voice is INCREDIBLE.
i give eden soooo much credit for everytihng she does! but she didnt do so well at the end, and eden like NEVER messes up! but still eden is amazing! and i still love her!
Ok guys listen. Stop saying how bad she messed up the high note. SHE IS ONLY HUMAN! And with the show Brooklyn (You know the song Once upon a time? Thats when her voice began to get damaged) then Wicked like 4 times her voice is breaking. It's only natural. I doubt that any of you bashing her high note can sing that so cut it out and give the woman a break.
Geez, even when the girl's having a bit of an off day, she's still fantastic. Out of all the actresses who have played this role, Eden has got to be the most kick-ass Elphaba ever!
Sick Eden is so heartbreaking lol. She didn't even sing the last "I" of the song when I went to see her once. It was like "THE WIZARD... And _____________ IIIIIII." Like is came back half way through. But so tragic lol.
Poor girl! You could tell through the whole first half of the song that she was careful not to overdo it, but in the end there was no way she could avoid the notes she messed up. Still, she sounded great when she was in control.
It is very clear that she either wasn't in the best of health, or isn't warmed up enough. Given the amount of singing her voice has been doing over the last few years...give her a break! EVERYONE has a a bad day sometimes...It's LIVE!Would love to hear some of you sing the song! haha
Hey guys, give her a break. She had a show the night before, probably didn't get home until midnight, and then had to sing at 9:30 in the morning. That's really hard. I give her props though, not everyone has the strength to even sing at 9:30 let alone on television.
Poor thing...it happens to the best of singers too. Plus, check the time people. Only 10am! Uusally when you are singing professionally, you have the sense to stay quiet for the good part of the day before a night performance. She is still one of my favorite Elphie's.
Half of the people saying this was bad don't even know what they're talking about. When constriction hits like that it's incredibly uncomfortable and she actually managed to adjust her voice during the last note which shows a remarkable control. I really felt for her, I love her to pieces and she probably felt like pure shit when she finished.
her voice sounded a little rough at the end, but it was early and she may have been a little sick. its just shows she's human. shes still my favorite elphaba and broadway actress. her hair was so short then.
gosh when her voice cracked i felt for her:( that really sucks when ur voice just completely fails you, but she carried on which is very professional:D
Out of all the Elphie's, Eden looks and sounds the most like Margaret Hamilton, and looks the youngest out of them, so she's the best choice to be Elphie if ever they made a movie of Wicked. For Glinda, my vote is Annaleigh Ashford, who is the youngest and prettiest of all the Glindas (but don't get me wrong, all of the Glindas are very gorgeous).
Poor thing. That was rough. Incredibly admirable that she renavigated her riffs and pushed like a freight train through the end. I'm really not a huge fan, but she worked her butt off on that one! Kudos!
good for her for getting through it after her voice failed, especially in front of thousands of viewers: its embarrassing, but she handled it well. she has a superb voice, i just dont know what happened here. if my voice were to crack on a last note like that, i wouldve ended it right away, and she didnt;; which truly shows what a skilled performer she is.
Finally! A GIRL with the name Eden! I dont know how people can think that Eden Is A Boys name! Funny face expressions! aww,shame she croaked it at the end..
8 shows a week. Tuesday, 2 shows on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 2 shows on Saturday and a matinee on Sunday. The voice gets tired.........even on Broadway. She gave her all and I've heard her at her best and she is very talented. I would like to see any one of you sing that score 8 times a week and not have days where you might crack a bit or have to take alternate notes. It's always the people that could never get to Broadway let alone get a starring role that have something to say.
yeah i agree with u guys. eden had been at for a time by then. give her a break...and whomever else plays that role. her voice was simply tired. maybe exhausted even. it is an INCREDIBLY DEMANDING PART. So lets give Eden and all the other ELPHABA'S A BIG GIGANTIC BREAK. Yes, we do expect alot as spectators, as well we should..but again, NO ONE can ever be perfect all the time.
This was admittedly not the best performace by any means but those attacking Eden is crazy. She was great in Wicked, amazing in Brooklyn and look for her performance of I'm a Star. Eden is a spectacular performer who is up there with Idina.
That's a bad habbit of Eden's, screaming. Somtimes she gets carried away and starts to scream. I've seen tons of clips of her screaming. She's gonna kill her voice doing that. I still love her. She was my first elphaba.
My gosh if it was with me I'd probably chicken out completely! She's just so good! I mean, look how she held that final note with her throat dirty the way it was. I'm sorry, Iknow everyone else is saying she sings badly, but i guess that's just what it was, some dirt on her voice and that's it! I'm definetely saving that one as an example of how I should behave calmly if anything goes unexpected on stage... That's all!
You try singing those notes at 9:46am. She was up at 6 to warm up. Since she does evening shows, she probably was up till 12am or 1am the night before. Even so, she didn't HAVE to belt the notes, she could have mixed them.
Idina had a similar experience either on the tonys or the london royal conncert hall at the end of defying gravity. it happens to the best of them. I have a really good wizard and I by Eden on my channel. she nails it
Considering I am a singer, (and I am being totally independent of Eden or any otehr Elphaba) it really sounds like she sang that song the way she would on stage but that she didn't warm up before hand. Eden is usually on point with her vocals and in this video her lower notes and falsetto were fine but it was her high "belting" that was off. It honestly sounds like she didn't warm up. Ahh well, one bad performance out of how many amazing ones? It happens to everyone!
I love her as well, but you gotta remember she's in a news studio, so her sounding couldn't go too high, and she was a little close to the mic, but give her credit she's been singing since she was 2 she's amazing!
Why are people arguing over one little mishap that she had. No singer, and i mean no singer is on everyday!!! She had one bad morning in comparison to hundreds of great performances. Also she may have been sick, that is why it may have sounded so strained.
she actually was elthaba in wicked when i went to c it... honestly she should have told her understudy that she was sick because she was flat the whole show... and she cracked at the end of defying gravity...
Actually, before her run of playing Elphaba and during, she had voice lessons to master the songs. Every cast member has to go through them. So even though she sounds a little rough at times, every singer has their off days, she rocks the character of Elphaba!
im guessing it was early or she was sick, maybe both. watch her on any other performance and she is always dead on with every note. she is probably the best elphaba to ever take on the role
Poor honey. I've seen people go on complete vocal rest before shows, and I was only in high school productions! I can only imagine the strain on her voice. She's absolutely stunning, this was just a fluke performance, which is tragic.
Go listen to another one of her wizard and I She's fabulous she just had an off day. I love Idina and think she is one of the best but Eden is far from terrible she just had an off day.

Yeah, she looks a little freaked out. She especially cooled it during "half of Oz's favorite team..." but she had to belt during the last "Wizard and I" no matter what. It's like she knew it was going to sound bad, but had no choice.
