To add to the mystery of Edgar Allan Poe, someone appeared at Edgar Allan Poe's grave site in Baltimore before dawn on Jan. 19 - his birthday. Three roses and a half-filled bottle of cognac would be left. This happened for decades ending in 2010 and to this day no one saw or knows who it was.
🎃 Marrying cousins back in the day was not considered inappropriate, nor was it frowned upon for girls to be married so young. Poe loved Virginia so much that she took a giant chunk of his soul with her when she died. "But we loved with a love that was more than love, I and my Annabel Lee." He wrote that for Virginia and even alluded to the fact that she took a piece of him when she died: "And so all the night tide, I lie down by the side of my darling, my life and my bride in her sepulchre there by the sea, in her tomb by the sounding sea." I could go on and on. Such a beautiful and heart breaking love story. 🎃
🎃Edgar Allan Poe inspired me to begin writing, poetry especially and to persue my degree in Literary Studies. I consider him a friend. Absolute genius. The first time I read The Fall of the House of Usher and Ligeia, I was obsessed. His haunting words and phantasmagoric imagery are unmatched. 🎃
If you do more in Baltimore another time, there is a Babe Ruth museum. It is walking distance from Camden Yard where the Orioles play. It is his childhood home and other artifacts.
John Astin, who acted in the role of Gomez in the Addams Family tv series, does a one man show performance of reciting The Raven. Find it on RU-vid. Highly recommend. His resemblance to Poe in this is amazing.

Cool. I am born and raised in Baltimore (1972-1999) Moved to Ellicott city in 1999 to beautiful howard county just a town over from Baltimore. You really need to take some ghost tours in howard county. We have lots of spooky urban legends, witches, ghost tours, paranormal, ufo stuff here in our county. I plan on starting up a ghost hunting group here this year. We grew up loving and cherishing Edgar Allen Poe. Welcome to Maryland and come back anytime.

Gail here ! I got married at 16 55 years ago and there has never been anyone else for us .We thought he might go to Nam (USAF).Turned out he was stationed in England and I got to be with him . That was a three years a a baby girl later we came home Great time in my life ! I'm now 72, 2 girls and 2 grandchildren later we've been married 55 years !The best advice I can give you is never go to bed mad ! Talk it out and forget it !Always wanted to go to Sleepy Hollow ! Travel as much as you can !
Growing up in MD I vaguely remember going to visit Poe's grave many years ago. We went to so many historical places on field trips when in school. Back in those days I honestly wasn't as interested in history as I an now. My husband's brother & his wife are in Baltimore and my husband goes a couple times a yr or so to help renovate a boat & also watches their house & dog when they go on vacation. I need to go with 1 time so we can go to some places like this ❤
Thanks for this video, Cris. I really enjoyed it. There is an Edgar Allan Poe House in Philadelphia as well. It's currently closed for repairs but will reopen in the fall. Poe lived in Philadelphia from 1838 to 1844. The house is located at 532 N. 7th street in Philadelphia.
I absolutely love Poe!! I live in Charleston Sc and when he was in the Army he was at Fort Moultrie. My fave restaurant to eat at on Sullivan's Island is called Poes Tavern. It's themed and so much fun.

Several years ago, one of my teacher friends came to visit me (I live in the Baltimore area) and we met for dinner at Annabel Lee’s Tavern. Annabel Lee is the last piece that he wrote. The tavern is a fun place with lots of memorabilia, and when we were there a Poe reenactor was also present. My friend is an English teacher and loves teaching her Poe unit, so we were very excited when we had our picture taken with “him”.

I loved edgar allan poe as a teenager. Our school was going to the poe museum, but i could afford to go. My teacher and i did not get along at all, but she stopped me in the hall one day. She said someone had dropped from the field trip, but it was nonrefundable. She said she didn't want to see that seat go empty when she had a student who who she knew would love it. I couldn't tell anyone that I was gifted the empty seat, but i never gave her a hard time again. I thought she didn't like me. 😂
