Very interesting tour! Unfortunately, the little raven on his tombstone is a mistake--because he wasn't really the author of the poem, "The Raven." Or, that has been my conclusion after over a decade of independent research. I have found evidence that the real author was Mathew Franklin Whittier, the younger brother of poet John Greenleaf Whittier.
