There is a little sketchwork, just not the kind you normally think about. He lined up the stencil and did a "sketch" of where he wanted it to be with the light green paint before doing anything else.

I love how the table catches bits of the paint, it makes the created world within the canvas look bigger And then when the canvas is picked up it's like the artist took a picture of that one moument in time and space
