I’ve watched it every year on the date (or as close as possible) that we originally saw it and I get to remember Alison gripping my hand and getting excited during the tense and thrilling moments, which was basically the whole movie to be honest. I’m glad you enjoyed it so much and were so invested in the movie. The editing is what really makes this movie. Instead of just starting over at the beginning every time, it shows snippets of how Cage gets to where he is - like showing his failed attempt to save Kimmel, then getting hit by that truck, and then succeeding - it really works great for the pacing, and makes the film not boring to watch, but entertaining.

My favorite shot in the movie is when it cuts from Rita's lifeless face to her alive again during training the next day, and she catches Cage staring at her. Live. Die. Repeat. was the tagline for the marketing campaign. It was constantly repeated in the films's trailers. It also took the majority of the space on the posters with the actual "Edge of Tomorrow" title really small. This made many people mistook the title for Live. Die. Repeat. So much so that on home video, the covers show the title as Live. Die. Repeat./ Edge of Tomorrow to make sure that people recognze the film. However, the official name always was Edge of Tomorrow.

Tom Cruise doesn't get enough credit for his comedic chops. I've found that in many of his more recent movies - including the "action" ones - he throws in a lot of self-deprecating mannerisms and comedic moments at his own expense. He's very good at it, and it's made the Ethan Hunt character from Mission Impossible WAY more accessible when compared to the first two movies. It vaguely reminds me of the way Harrison Ford used to play Indiana Jones - like he's always in over his head.
@Shiny7054

Cruise gets a lot of crap for the whole Scientology thing (rightly, I think) but I really love the quality he brings to action movies. He allows his characters to be vulnerable and to look scared, which is far more interesting and engaging than characters in other action movies who barely seem phased by the situations they find themselves in or throw out a quip in response to immense carnage and violence

How can someone not fall in love with her character? She's strong, smart, beautiful, bad-ass, and has a sassy attitude. She's like the perfect woman, lol. I think it's because of how strong she is through the movie that when she's dying and she holds out her hand to hold Cage's hand as she dies it was such a touching and sad scene. It was like the first time you get to see her vulnerable. But I really love that ending, how he goes onto the base as an officer and everyone is standing in attention and saluting him, treating him with respect, but when he approaches her, officer or not, she still gives him the same attitude he knows from her, and that laugh at the end he gives was just the perfect response. The reason Kage reset further is that the Alphas can reset a single day, whereas the Omega can reset two. Think of it as the Omega having a longer backup to change the events that lead to its death. Or having different levels of save states. Because Kage got the Omegas blood, he hijacked the time power from it, making it die for real. If he didn’t; if they just bombed it or something, the Omega would have reset two full days (back to when Kage was in the helicopter) and anticipated the squad attack. Glad you enjoyed the movie!

Exactly what happened to me. One of the last dollar theater movies I watched before they got bought out and stopped existing. That was the beauty of the dollar theater. You went and saw movies that you didn't expect to be great, so when one was, it was an amazing time.

I honestly wasn't expecting much from this when I went to the theater to see it, but it was packed and it was WAAAY better than I expected. I only went because I actually like Tom in most movies and knew it was based on a light novel and I love the theater environment. It was a good night. 🐾🐾🍻

This movie represents the best of what action movies should do. It's a shit load of fun, not really a heavy thinker, but still has a lot of heart. Groundhog Day is one of my favorite Bill Murray movies, both because its hilarious and because of Bill's growth over the film. It's serves an even more fun premise in an action film like this, paying off some dark comedy through various deaths.

Hands down the best sci-fi movie i have ever seen. One of the few rare ones where the plot and the story are paramount and the most important and the CGI are only a background to that. Usually its the other way around - flashy CGI scenes with more plotholes than swiss cheese. It was one of the few movies that made me sit on the tip of my chair and bite my fingernails as the stakes got higher and higher at the end.

Agree with everything, except I never understand why people blame CGI for bad writing and direction. The CGI artists always do an amazing Job with what they are asked to do. The CGI in this film is great. It doesn't take a background, it works amazingly well WITH the story. Not to mention one of the best creature design & seamless VFX work. Just like in many mainstream blockbusters. The biggest difference is that the writing and direction are actually done well here. We need to immediately stop blaming "flashy CGI" as part of the issue for bad writing and blame bad writing and direction on it's own. CGI don't even need to be mentioned along with it. We don't mention lighting or set design or make up along with it right? CGI is just another element like that.
@Keria666WHY

@@southindianboi9050 what i meant is that most of scifi is made specifically FOR amazong CGI and except that it usually lacks a compelling story. And even if it doesn't, CGI is usually the primary selling point. Not the case here :) story is primary and CGI is secondary, thank god

The director is Doug Liman who directed the first The Bourne Identity movie. I don't think Natalie watched those yet, so that should definitely be added to the watchlist. He also directed Mr and Mrs Smith, and American Made (also with Cruise). His first movie was Swingers which would be cool to see a reaction to as well.

I think that " The Last Samurai" is one of the films from Tom Cruise that is listed in the top 3 favorites for me that are stand alone singles. Someone with PTSD and a drunk suffering from DT's. Learning the ways of your enemies and coming to love the culture and the mystery widow. (spoilers). Tom really stretched his acting chops. Musical score ( Hans Zimmer) and cinematography are 10/10 and have won many awards.. Top of the line acting by all. Ken Watanabe, Koyuki playing the widow ( first film? stage actress)

It still amazes me as to how severely underrated this movie was / still is. Unlike many critics / moviegoers that just blanket Tom Cruise in as a shitty actor or just weird because of Scientology and such, it’s asinine to not argue the fact that he is easily one of the greatest actors of our generation. I think that because Oblivion was released one year prior to this left everyone with a sour taste in their mouths, therefore the ticket sales suffered and the reviews were overlooked. This film is truly a Masterclass in pacing and original storytelling / screenplay adaptation, especially when it’s a Groundhog Day type scenario (which by its nature is supposed to be blatantly predictable and repetitive without twisting the narrative). But now, watching Natalie’s almost child-like reactions is equally as rewarding as watching the movie itself. There’s nothing as simple and enjoyable as seeing a person’s real, genuine reaction to a movie they’re seeing for the first time and is so deeply invested in the film ☺️
