You are an excellent RU-vidr. You speak and use visuals like you are an everyday RC guy, not like others who fancy themselves as a professor from M.I.T. Ok question. I switched over to Edgetx, and as you predicted I lost my favorite model. I backed up my disk. Can I just drag the model over to Edge?
@@RCVideoReviews Thanks. What I did was before I deleted my SD card (backed up) I selected all but deselected models and radio so they would remain. Copied over the Edge files, yet I still lost all my models. Is there anything I can do, other than switching back to OpenTX?
Hi John. Great guide! I helped my dad to do this, he's not English speaker and not so confident with PC. It was my first experience with this staff. The only think I want to ask, I copied his models to edge Tx SD but couldn't get that conversion. Any idea for that? I also tried quick Googling and forum digging if there is Czech language for menu but no luck only voicepacks. Are there other languages?
Finally got everything moved, and I had to redo the models all 30 anyway. The models moved, but the switch and key mapping was for a different radio and none of the models were bound after the move. My advice to anyone is to create template models and copy and rebind. It took me a week to get all thirty models created and bound to the new radio. I do not understand why all of the models moved had to be rebound. You would think that the unique identifier or code should have moved with the model!
John, I know you will disagree with me but I absolutely hate EdgeTX. It is way too complicated and offers no real functionality compared to OpenTX to RC pilots like myself who have no interest in the programming complexities of EdgeTX. Regardless, I went back to OpenTX and love it. OpenTX is very straight forward and easy to understand once you get the concept of Inputs, Mixes and Outputs down. My question is that I followed your video to the letter but now when I want to look at the SD card on my TX16S and hold the T4/T1 buttons in while turning on the radio, it still comes up with the screen "EdgetX Bootloader - v2.8.4". How do I get rid of that and go to the OpenTX bootloader screen? Thank you for your very thorough and helpful videos!
Yup, couldn't disagree more. The core programming features of both firmwares are essentially the same. But you've made your choice and that's fine. With your OpenTX firmware on the SD card, navigate to the the firmware folder on the radio, long press the firmware, and choose flash bootloader.
Thanks for the informative presentation. I have two radios , one with OTX and a lot of my models and widget designs and a new one with a freah ETX 2.7.1 installed. I used the OTX companion to save my models and then the ETX companion to import and convert my OTX models on the ETX radio. Everything seemed fine at first and the .bin model files showed up as .yml . But then I realized all the widget designs were gone. Also certain model jpegs only displayed in the model list but not when attempted to add them as widgets. What's up with that? It also seems to me that the display quality in ETX is not as sharp, colorful and 'contrasty' as in OTX. Has anyone else noticed that?
Thanks For this! I am running ELRS and Edge supports this well from what I understand - So I will need to move over the ELRS LUA after Edge install correct?
Thank you for update and the video showing how simple to go back and forth. When you when back to OpnTx, and it prompted you that the data was invalid, you said that it did this because you hadn’t yet updated the SD card. Here is where I’m confused. If you just copied over the exact content of the SD card that you had fir the OpenTX that you started with, why and how would have to upgrade the card?
Before I made the video, I flashed the latest copy of OpenTx onto the Eachine. I didn't upgrade my SD card contents when I did. So before the video ever started there was a mismatch between the firmware and the sd card contents. Please just ignore the error--it's not relevant.
Great tutorial video, may be it is a stupid question but I am newbie pilot started a month ago, just wondering if I have to do all the setup and binding once again when all my quads?
You always have to bind new receivers except when you use technology like ExpressLRS which can use binding phrases. Technically, you could use one model for all quads if you use a binding phrase on ExpressLRS or if you use RX Num 0 with FrSky protocol RXs.
The latest EdgeTX Flasher has different selections on the LH side(Welcome, Install EdgeTX, Setup SD Card and Settings). Going from OpenTX to EdgeTX-how do I flash Firmware when there is no Flash selection?
I just got a TX16S and installed EdgeTX as soon as it arrived. I set up a couple of models from scratch for the quads I fly most frequently, and so far I'm loving the radio and running Edge on it. The problem I'm trying to solve now is that I was previously using a Jumper T12 pro and I can't seem to find a way to transfer my old models over. I have a few more complicated fixed wing models that I'd really like to not have to set up from scratch. I've tried backing them up to the sd card in the t12pro and then moving them to the models folder on my tx16 sd card, but when I boot the tx16 it never tries to convert them. If I go to the SD card tab and look in the models folder, they're all there. The radio just wont do anything with them. I also noticed that when I backup my models from the t12 the bin files are very small at just 1kb, not sure if that's normal. Anyone have any suggestions?
@@RCVideoReviews For some reason my models don't copy over properly. I open the saved models in companion, it asks me to convert them, which I say yes to. Then I copy them over to my new radio using drag & drop, they look like they are there, so I write to the radio. But when I turn on my radio the models are not there! I plug it into companion, read the models and the models that I copied to the radio show up in companion - they just don't show up on the radio itself. I noticed that my openTX uses BIN files and my EdgeTX radio uses YML files... and I see the BIN files on my new radio, but it looks like YML files were never created. NO Idea what do do, it seems like the conversion has never taken place properly, or it's converting wrong. I also don't have a RADIO folder on my openTX model, so nothing to copy for that. The other peculiar thing is that on my openTX radio I have about 60 models, but only about 8 BIN files. Where the heck is it storing all the other models? Anyways, I really wish I could get this working, I've flashed and reflashed and tried copying models about 30 times now.
Download the SD Card contents and Sound Pack directly from the EdgeTX github and install them on the SD card manually. SD Card: github.com/EdgeTX/edgetx-sdcard/releases/tag/v2.7.0 Sounds: github.com/EdgeTX/edgetx-sdcard-sounds/releases/tag/v2.5.3 Usually if flasher can't see your card there is something else going on like your computer not mounting the card properly.
Hi Sir: Have you ever done any Long Range Build Video's? Like X Class 10in, i am going to embark on a personal quest to build one and have been searching for info on what items i need to purchase and i would like to fly around this lake in Fla during the winter months where we go to spend time to get out of the snow so far i got the box goggles,a X10 Tx, a 10 in dead cat frame a 4 in 1 60 amp esc, a Lummiear f7 FC ,and i'm not sure what motors i need i have the CRSF module and nano Rx also VTx 1000 mw i guess i will use iNAV to be able to stop and take video's and pos-hold,RTH Loiter somthing like arducopter Mission Planner does i have come across and watch a few of your video's that i can actually hear and comprehend what you saying and i could follow your instructions on how to get this done so if you have a long range build video i haven't found it but i have subscribed and hit that littlebell to notifly me of you up coming articles.
I have not done a specific long range build for quads however, I can make some recommendations to get you in the ballpark: It sounds like you're more concerned with long duration than long distance, so efficiency is the name of the game for you: 1) Two bladed props are generally considered more efficient. So consider 2-blade options but do test. Don't assume. 2) Li-Ion batteries - Hard to beat power density vs weight. 3) Slower spinning motors with bigger props vs faster spinning motors with larger props. 4) Me a maniac about weight. Good luck, J

Flashing from Edge to Open with latest firmware on a new Zorro but I'm getting the error: "New firmware is not compatible with the one already installed! " Any help appreciated.
If I’m doing from OpenTX to Eve tx Can I escape the SD card content and use brand new SD card so I can bother with loading anything please let me know thank you
So OpenTX & EdgeTX firmware is all stored on the SD card. So I could take a separate SD card and start a EdgeTX and setup everything. And if I wanted to go back to OpenTX firmware. I just pop my old SD card back in and everything is already setup like I left it. Looks like it be easier just to set up a new sd card huhh? Or do I have to flash back (OpenTX/EdgeTX) firmware back on to the radio separate from the SD card? Thanks for the great videos!
You always have to flash firmware. So this is the way to do things: Copy your OTX sd card to computer. Then copy it to EdgeTx sd card. Remove OTX sd card, replace with EdgeTx sd card. Flash Edge firmware. If you want to go back to OTX, go to bootloader, flash OTX, exit, shut down, replace OTX sd card.
Hello, I am stuck, confused, frustrated ... help, LOL Anyhow I downloaded the Zadig App, but not seeing the same options as your video. This is what I am seeing in the dropdown menu (Top): Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth (R) Atmel maXTouch Control (Interface 0) Atmel maXTouch Digitizer (Interface 1) Integrated Webcam (Interface 0) I am not seeing the 'STM32 Bootloader' option at all cheers, Khan
I don’t know what I did but I got the flash on on the HTX flashing on the page incident give me five icon I only give me for it doesn’t give me the flash something I must be wrong if it’s possible can you tell me what I did wrong I spent hours and hours hours on it thank you
Would you advise to have dual SD cards then? One with only OpenTX, and one with EdgeTX? I want OpenTX, but it seems like you can only get the TX12s with Edge installed from the dealer.
Switching the card does not change the firmware. You have to flash the internal memory with the firmware you want and have an SD card with the contents supporting that firmware. Since you directly asked for my advice, I'll offer it: Switch to Edge and don't look back.
Not sure about that error. You can get the EdgeTX sounds from the EdgeTX github: github.com/EdgeTX/edgetx-sdcard-sounds/releases/tag/v2.5.3 SD Card contents are here: github.com/EdgeTX/edgetx-sdcard/releases/tag/latest
Hi John, was able to migrate back to OpenTx. Although nothing had happened while flying my OmpHeli’s using EdgeTx, decided to migrate back because saving files from EdgeTx comes out funny on companion Tx, all models are somewhat scrambled and out of place. I did like switching between models using EdgeTx, makes it very fast and easy. I still like how OpenTx looks. Is there away, reading files from the radio with EdgeTx firmware and save the settings without the files coming out funny on companion? Thanks John.
Edge is not compatible with Companion. I’m surprised it worked at all. And it’s going to get worse as Edge migrates to YAML. Eventually Edge will have its own version of Companion but that’s one of the drawbacks right now.
@@RCVideoReviews Ok, thanks John. Till then, staying with OpenTx for now. Had fun trying it and can’t wait till all bugs and fixes are resolve. Thanks to you guys and to the dev team out there making all this possible for us.
After installing Zadig I do not see STM32 Bootloader in the dropdown menu. Also, where did you download the Edge TX folder? Either I am missing something or not getting it straight through.
John I have the TX16X never updated anything Can this sequence of steps Put Edge 8 or whatever version is currently out now on my radio. Would like to give Edge a try. Thanks
Hello john..my tx16s problem when put usb to computer..only 1 file pop up..missing firmware.bin and firmware.txt..can u help me how to recover that..tq
I followed the steps Iin your video to migrate to edge tx. Turned on and it still showed the open tx logo in the boot loader. Can't get the radio to shoe the edge tx boot loader I still have a functioning radio but can't get it over to edge tx. PLEASE HELP!
I'm all-in on Edge, so for me the answer is no. Some people may want to take a look to see what all the fuss is about. There is a look and feel difference too, so some might not be ready for the change after an initial look. In any event, the information is there.
Thank you for your video. After installing the Zadig driver, the keyboard no longer works on my PC (Windows 10 PC) I can only use the PC again after a system recovery. Is there an alternative to the Zadig driver?
Hi and thanks for being there producing valuable content. I need help, I’m new at this and doing this mainly for my son that’s into the hobby but he is 13yo and not allowed to have social media . I tried doing this move to edgeTX for his tx16s and got it up and running all good there,!but I couldn’t really finish the right way because now this PC won’t see the SD card on the tx16s. Besically got stuck at minute 6 with 24secounds, right at the refresh to look for the sdcard and rewrite. Just can’t see it , funny thing is I will move to other pc amd it will connect just fine… I have tried Zadig again I tried the immersion Rc driver fixer without luck… Pc will recognize other mass storage devices I tried afterwards but not radiomaster Zorro or tx16s. Any ideas?
This sounds much more like a PC issue than a radio issue as evidenced by the fact you can move to another computer and it connects just fine. A couple of things I would try: 1) Reboot 2) Different USB Cable 3) Different USB Port Does the computer make the bong bong sound when the radio is connected? If you take the card out of the radio and plug directly into PC (via adapter if necessary) does the PC see the card? Does the device manager show the device? Are there any errors in the device within device manager? Can you remove the device? Can you login on that PC with a different username and see if you get the same result? It does sound to me like the issue is with your computer.
John, does edge tx (Radiomaster TX16S MKII) have a way to do blade phasing for a helicopter? am putting a 4 blade head on my 450 ec135 and was wondering. Thank you sir.
You obviously wouldn't get the touch advantages, but you will get all the undercover benefits like crsf-shot, integrated crossfire, yaml, frtos, and all the code cleanup they're performing.
I remember you selected "Erase entire sd card". How is it able to convert models when sdcard was entirely deleted? Is there any step I missed? Thank you.
@7:01 I specifically state the Erase Card option will erase everything except for models and radio settings. The popup dialogue at that time index reinforces the statement.
I got all the way through and installed EdgeTx but my models did not convert. Is there any way to convert models after conversion to EdgeTx?. I had about 60 models in OpenTx but after conversion there are none.
I'm a newb And feel a little over my head but I flashed edge TX and it worked but then when I wanted to bind to a tracer receiver the agent X lia script was not there. Now feel I should just go back to Open tx
All you have to do is unzip this www.team-blacksheep.com/tbs-agent-lite.zip and put it in your sd card \SCRIPTS\TOOLS directory. AgentX works fine on Edge.
I purchased a new Jumper T18 Pro V2, and when I move the models from the backup created on my T12 Pro, They move into the folder on the new SD card but are not converted and not visible from the the radio. How do i get the radio to convert them?
Your best bet is to use Companion. Setup a T12 profile and a T18 profile. Using the T12 profile, import your models. Switch your profile to T18, connect the T18 and write models/settings. Companion will make the change for you. You're probably missing the \RADIO\models.txt file That file serves as the table of contents for the radio.
@@RCVideoReviews Thanks very much for the info! I am not new to this and have been working for a day to fix the issue. I have been on OpenTX for years from Frysky and wanted a new radio with touch screen. Jumper should install Edge from the factory and save people problems! Thanks again!
Was switching from Edge to Opentx and followed all the steps but when I try to write the firmware to the radio it gives me an error and doesn't get written to the radio. Pls help
If you’re flashing it from the bootloader and it fails, you either have the wrong firmware or a bad sd card. I’ve flashed from the bootloader countless times and it has never failed.

Hi, I have tried to migrate to Edge, but unfortunately now my radio won't start. Keeping the double buttons pressed only makes the lights flashing from side to side forever and no other sign of life!?! Maybe you have an idea?
This method only applies for colored radio. I used this method for jumper T12, and I lost my radio setting and models. For bw radio, please read the information on the edgeTX Flasher carefully !!!
@@RCVideoReviews yeah I did manage to figure out what happened. It had to be in the tools folder. Open tx didnt seem to be so precise about that. I also redownload the lua
Hi John, just one question I see on the flasher there are options for flashing X9D etc. Is there any advantage flashing EdgeTX to transmitters which doesn't have a touchscreen?
So far I think the only thing ETX has done for B&W is add ability for having a timer trigger conditional with a switch... there's obviously the logo and different voice packs, but you download that anyway. The primary focus has been colour screens and touchscreens as of yet. And there could be some other stuff that's shared across the board.
Peter has an inside POV so you can rely on his comments. I would add the Edge team has been re-thinking other aspects of the radio such as disabling RSSI Alerts Disabled warning screen, adding CRSF Shot to release version, and conserving memory. So there are other nuances in Edge now and certainly in the future that are more "under the hood" type of updates.
Edge TX has issues with DSM receivers which I have reported. No answers yet and wanted to go back to open tx. Followed your instructions but get an error of "new firmware not compatible with firmware currently installed" I used a new card for Edge and have a backup original card. Any help you can provide would be helpful. Using Companion for the flasher. Thanks
If you download the Opentx binary and put it on the radio in the firmware directory then run bootloader mode, you can flash opentx direct from the bootloader. It should work no problem.
@@RCVideoReviews Yes, worked great. Thank you. 70% of my receivers is DSM so I had to switch back. No real answers to the problem. It is a channel mapping issue it seems. I will wait a while before I go back to Edge TX
I tried a lot to flash my Jumper T16 pro although installed the driver also and flashed even selecting T16. Yet tge same opentx system comes when i power it on
@@RCVideoReviews after it was showing flashing complete a small message beneath was writh and that was Waiting for dfu util I waited for some time still same message so i closed it because it showed flashing complete and secondly it didnt show the downloading it directly showed firmware flashing complete
Did you install drivers with Zadig? If you can't flash it with the Flasher, flash it with Companion. Or, put the binary on your SD card in your firmware folder, boot into bootloader by holding T1 and T4 in while powering on and flash from the bootloader.
Aside from touch screen, what are the benefits to edge tx? I run open tx on my Horus x10s express and x9d+ see, I don't see much difference. Is edge tx suppose to equal Ethos or be better?
You have to read the release notes: github.com/EdgeTX/edgetx/releases/tag/v2.4.0-rc3 I wouldn't equate Ethos to Edge because Ethos is proprietary FrSky and based on their track record I wouldn't use it.
@@RCVideoReviews I see don't see what would make edge better than open tx. Been using opentx for a couple years. Looks like edge is a waste, I could see if it was a major upgrade, but it appears not.
@@johnbednarz1424 Depends on the transmitter your using, if you have a nice big colored touchscreen its awesome , but if your using a old x9D then probally no use for you
@@johnbednarz1424 it will be the first release, so of course you wouldn't. There are only a handful of things that will apply to older B&W radios - combining timers with switches, no RSSI warning in startup iif you disabled RSSI warning, but that's mostly it. The focus for this release had been getting touchscreen working on the colour screens and the UI into a usable state. Next release is likely to be working on the interface and overhauling the theming and consistency. But again that would be mostly colour screen. B&W radios are "mostly complete" really, not much happens specifically for them.
@@pfeerick Ok, I have x9d+ see and a Horus x10s express. I understand not doing much for the x9d, I am curious about if it was going to be beneficial to my x10s express compared to open tx. The UI is pretty much the same aside touch screen.
Hi John, I attempted to load Edgetx on my Horus10 and all was going good, but the moment I tried to write to the SD Card it wouldn't recognize it. Although I could select the card each time I attempted to write , it asked me to select a destination. Have you ever come across that?
I have not. You can take the SD Card out of the radio and write to it that way. In this case, the radio is nothing more than a great big SD card adapter. So I would try that if I were you.
Man I need your help… I completely f**ed this up. I did back up open tx , but I must of screwed something up along the way.. any way to get your contact info?
32gb @ 4k allocation works with no rain dance but it's honestly not necessary and you get no advantage doing it. A 2gb card is more than you'll likely ever need unless you load your radio up with music.
Just tried to download the flasher and got a virus warning which I allowed but the program won't install as windows blocks it. tried turning off all blocking programs but still block. Why is there a virus in the flasher? Running Windows 10 with all updates.
I don't think there's a virus in the flasher. If you want to help sort it out, you need to open an issue here and explain what you're seeing: github.com/EdgeTX/edgetx/issues/new/choose
I ran the tool through virustotal.com and it's coming out clean, but I do see the error on Chrome. I've let the primary developer know. Thanks for speaking up.
