I never comment on a tutorial video, mostly because they’re horribly edited, uninformative, and usually leave me even more confused than I was before searching for a tutorial video. I got a Radiomaster TX16S today. I literally took it out of the package and followed your video as I was handling it for the first time. This was 26 of the most helpful and useful minutes of my life. Thank you so much!
Unfortunately I didn't watch this first so 3 hours were spent trying to figure out why the radio and computer software wouldn't communicate. After watching this video, I was done in about 15 minutes with the radio updated. Thank you!
wow my computer did not reconized open tx companion, so I got the radio for a year with open tx, and tonight I said lets do it is a new year and founded you video, I said lets do it and guest what! works like a charm. Thanks so much.
I followed the steps that were described here and I did run into problems. My radio would not turn on. The lights would come up but nothing else. If this happens, don't panic. Download the edge TX flasher and plug in the USB and re-flash with the edge tx flasher he showed in the video. My first time I used the flasher it didn't work either. I did it a second time and it came up and every thing works. Now I can go back and fourth as he does in the video. Great job with the video and Thanks for helping the community.
Gold, absolute gold. So easy. Now a repo of EdgeTX builds with various build options (like noheli, lua and so on) would be awesome, so one can further customize their build. Thank you for this no hassle method!
John, you forgot to tell everyone to 'select' the proper radio configuration in Companion before downloading the firmware! I have a Horus 10, X9D, X9D+, and a TS16S! So I 'must' select TS16S radio configuration to download the proper firmware! I use Companion to update all my Frsky radios, so Companion may not be set for the TS16S, like yours was! Awesome video, This is what I have been doing! Sure beats copying across the USB cable! Keep them coming!
I didn't really forget. This wasn't really meant to be a Companion training video. I wanted to stay focused on the bootloader. It's a fair point, but on a fresh install of Companion, it will force you to create a profile.
this is a process that u need to pay attention if not then u have to go back and start from where u made the mistake really and in my case i do have to watch the video over and over again because of something i miss thank men for a great video
spent four hours trying to flash edge tx to my radio with a different video next watched this and got it first try. thank you so much for making this easy
Here goes, I've tried to do this but finding it hard. This one seems to be the way to go. I'll let you know when I try this but first I'll watch the vid another 5 times before I start!
Nice and clean - thanks RC Video Reviews🙂 Winter is coming and finally I have time to move from OpenTx to EdgeTx. Will proceed to how to convert models, images etc. from SD card👍
Thank you!! i'm looking way to make my Radioking TX18s touchscreen work! will be try out this EdgeTX and see. Only I have to migrate my models memory in my T18S.
EdgeTX is definitely blazing the trail with development. OpenTX remains a solid platform for those familiar with it and who don't need/care about what EdgeTX offers.
Good explanation on SD card use of the TX16S. I've not yet used OpenTX Companion to load files onto my SD card. BTW... I just copied the 2 files to my desktop and the latest EdgeTX firmware (as of this Comment) seems to be edgetx-firmware-merge (the one at the top of my edgeTX Flasher Screen).
@@RCVideoReviews Re-installed the firmware and the Merge copy is at the top of the list. Here are time stamps on my screen for the Merge and Main versions as of this comment. Merge -2021-08-08 T06:44:04Z Main --- 2021-08-07 T06:52:09Z The Merge looks newer to me. Am I wrong or does it not matter that Merge is at the top of the list and is a newer file?
By following your steps, I was able to get Edge running on my X-lite, but my OpenTx models to didn't sync. I used EdgeTx Companion, and the Write Files button, which worked. I also wasn't able to get the EdgeTx soundpack, but downloaded the files off EdgeTx and transfered them on the SIM card. Thanks for this video!!, and I hope that helps someone
This is a FANTASTIC VIDEO - it eliminated a bunch of questions I had as to whether I was doing it right - but - I'm still having a ton of issues with the card. Even though I have all of the files on the SD card and EDGETX loaded up, it shows no files on the SD card.
Reading the comments below, someone had the EXACT same issue I did. You totally solved it with that the card was bigger than 32GB and formatted as NTFS. Reformatted the card, added everything back onto a smaller card and bam, done. THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT WORK YOU DO CREATING CLEAR AND USEABLE CONTENT!
Hi John, it’s funny but this is how I do my flashing back and forth 😂 By the way I received my RadioMaster Max Talon Edition and since I only have 3 Heli’s think I’m gonna run EdgeTx in it. Thanks John
@@RCVideoReviews Yes John, it’s a good way of teaching them all those other options. Believe me, at the flying field I go to most of the people I fly with flying helicopters has Vcontrol Radio, and whenever they see me out there with my RadioMaster the fist question all the time is if it’s hard to use as far as programming. Most of them really can’t deal with programming and updating the radio when they need to, some of them rely on others for setup and updating the radio. I told them how great RadioMaster is, that there’s is plenty of tutorials out on RU-vid now a days. One guy at the field has Vtouch a $1300 radio, he was having a hard time updating it at one time and ended up messing it up but it’s fixable, he end up getting another vtouch 😂
best one i've seen yet, i almost tossed this radio and went back to my ix12 or x9. now if i can just understand this frysky issue . i understand the difference between accst and acess but i have a xm accst 2.12 i thought it would bind to my taranis x9 because its still acsst. but it doesnt.am i correct that you can put any n access but not accst on non frysky hardware. as they made it exclusive so no 2nd or 3rd party selling receivers im guessing. thanks again!
Hey and thank you for this video, still thinking of changing to Edge on my TX16s but I have to ask, is the functionality the same as OpenTX? As I have seen, after migrating to Edge the only you need to do is setup your screen again, right? Or do you have setup all your aircraft again? Thx again for the awesome video’s!!
I'm not aware of anything that can be done in OpenTx that cannot be done in EdgeTX. Here's a video showing what to expect when migrating: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Jlkzm5RG2L4.html
Thamks a lot for you video. I just applied on my radio Master tx16s MarkII. I just have a problem with the telemtry. Do you recomend to load the multi protocolo? When i tray to bind in multi futaba shome module status no telemetry detect..... Thanks in advance, but i can bind my new radio with any model
thanks to this process i did see what my issue, the SD card reader slot on the motherboard of the radio is dead. luckely it was not my Jumper T18 radio, but sadly on my friends backup radio RadioMaster TX16S :(
Brilliant tutorial- thank you. I baught a second hand tx16s and its got a load of old model files and stuff from the previous owner as well as an old version of open tx. I want to install edge tx and literally do a fresh install. Should i format the sd card and then make a "firmware" folder and then flash edge tx firmware or should i leave the old folders? Do the old folders get overwritten after the firware update?
Old folders do not get overwritten in a firmware update. If you use the EdgeTX flasher or buddy to setup your SD card they will, but not just for flashing.
Weird, I tried the flash EdgeTX boot loader, the RED line got to about 2 percent and totally locked, I waited about 5 minutes, still the same. I have to disconnect the battery. I tried again and it worked great!! I feel a bit lucky I didn't damage the firmware. I actually have 2 TX16s radios and thought "perfect" upgrade one! its looking great. Currently using V2.6.0 (14/2/22)
Hi, just wondering if you could advise on how to make a change to the bootloader. I have rewritten some of the code relating to the Status LED on the front of my Boxer radio and simply want to overwrite the existing file with my amended one. No matter what i try i can't access the file system within edgetx bootloader. Thanks.
I definitely now need 4 in 1 module Firmware for my new Boxer. Its got July 2023 version. Got warning Status in Model. C186 is Invalid Protocol. Proved Boxer IS Working. Bound it to a DSM Receiver no problem. So it needs the Internal Module Updated to Recognize the E129/C186. That’s got to be the Issue. Looking for source of Internal Module Firmware. Use Companion??
@@RCVideoReviews Ok I got it down v1.3.4.0 and Flashed in Radio. Serial AETR Latest Stable for STM? Tried ppm and got a Down Warning For Testing Only. It Tried to Bind. Fast Flashing Heli lights, but bind Times out and no Bind. Snd Yet it partially works. Sticks cause much Delayed correct movements. Like a Slow Robot. I don’t get it. Why My new radio? I’ve been programming Spectrum radios for 15 years. This is only different on the First Radio Settings page by using the Internal 4in1 to Select and Bind. Don’t know what else to do. This is Day 3 on this one Protocol. Important to me because the Stock Radios are terrible Controllers!
You have to set companion options first after installing. I've wasted hours getting lua scripts to work , only to find lua was not default option enabled. Not sure if that changed.
That was the first thing I noticed, that part was left out of the video. I'm guessing he assumed people already know about this but it could throw some people off if they do not have some experience with opentx. Select your firmware preferences before downloading the firmware.
@@HDTube101 Another idea its possible that lua is checked by default with the later versions on Companion. As far upgrading to 2.3 recently, I see options have changed a bit. Still don't understand what anyone wouldn't want lua (luac) enabled by default. Must have been older radios not having the resources.
Thanks for the great video. This may have been asked before, but I’ll go ahead and ask again, just in case it hasn’t: (1) Does it support Yapoo Horus Mapping and LUA scripts; and (2) Will it eventually import the OpenTX models such that you.don’t have to reconfigure the look and feel of the imported OpenTX Models? Thank you.
It supports LUA now. In fact, they're working on incorporating LUA screen presses, and button capture to extend the functionality of LUA. As to Yapu and Imports--I don't know the answer to those two.
@@RCVideoReviews Thank you for your reply. Having an established relationship with the developers, would you be so kind as to ask the developers about the Model imports and the Yapu Horus scripts.
Dear John. If I bacbup my SD card that's in my radio now and save it on my desktop, and do what you just show as with tx boodloader and I mess it up can I just format my SD card and copy my backup back onto the card and it will be back like it was. Hope I explained myself clearly. Live your video's. Thanks Johan
Firmware and SD card contents do not share the same memory. Firmware is flashed onto radio memory. So #1 Backup your sd card contents so if you need to go back, your models and radio settings are preserved. #2 If you flash Edge and want to revert to Opentx, I've posted the entire video process on how to do it. You can use the flashing technique shown in this video in lieu of techniques shown in the other video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PhpDf-j_3_Q.html
@@RCVideoReviews Thanks John. Yes I just copied it onto my SD card and not into my firmware folder. Will try it today. Thank for helping. Appreciate it 😊
Hello, When I put the firmware binaries on my sd card on my pc and then place the card back into my Zorro, they are gone when I go to the firmware folder where I put them. Also, if I go into to DFU mode the old firmware keeps showing back up?
How do you flash boodloader on NV14, if long press on the edgtx file under firmware copy-delete-rename ? Never mind, used Edger flasher, had problems, ran impulsedriverfixer which if your dev is in dfu mode, it will load the dfu driver and flasher did it's thing.
This is great . Thanks for such a great tutorial on this. 👍 I’m having a issue on my Tx16 s max. After I downloaded and put in the the edge tx it’s not recognizing my external or internal module. And nothing will bind and I have crossfire as my external . It also says no multi Telemetry detected . Why is that can you please help . I’ve been going nuts over a week on this trying to figure it out. Hope you can help . Thanks 🙏🏻
Viewing the update to E Tx, I have managed to update my Tx16S. Viewed all your videos on same and managed it by a "hybrid" method.... As you say bootloader is the key! Can you make video for Horus x12s update. Please!
Super! Thanks Installed EdgeTX. But. I have Taranis QX7 ( 2018). ELRS. 400k boud- doesn't work. OneBit Mode - doesn't work. I see no improvement compared to OpenTx
Visual improvements on non-touch radios won't be very visible, but they are modernizing every aspect of the firmware. There's a new FRTOS now, Crsfshot is enabled, internal crossfire, YAML for radio settings and model storage, etc... It's hard to tell when desktop OSs make any meaningful updates anymore either, but they use a technique referred to as Agile development which means small and continuous improvements. At the end of the day, your money, your hobby. Do what makes you happy, but EdgeTX is the future.
Question??? Could I download the opentx and the edgetx files that you put on your desktop to a iPad Pro connect a card reader transfer the firmware to the card and put the card in the radio and then update like you explained it works the same way for camera firmware updates on a iPad thanks
I tried to flashed Radiomaster T16S EdgeTX firmware into my RADIOKING TX18S, it screen came out is inverted. So I tried again flash with Jumper T18 EdgeTX FW, it's successful!!
After the flashing done, I found my models did not appear in my tx. so I have to redo the sdcard files copy one more time and restart and make sure the sdcard conversion and models conversion is done. After this steps, it's really done, I now can find my models and have to setup their widgets 1 by 1. Overall good. Thx!!
@@RCVideoReviewsthank you, I was wondering, because I'm having issues binding eachine airplanes with my opentx16s, in order to make the servos to respond I have to bind on low power. I have the firmware 0pentx 2.3.14 installed in my radiomaster. Any idea what is going on.? Please and thanks. My friends want to get this radios, but they are not sure if they will have the same problem.
Hello, I've flashed my qx7 to edgeTX, I'm using a crossfire v2 module and for some reasons I can't access the module through my transmitter. I cannot see the Power and other options in the tools page, only things showing up are the "bind, multi-bind and region". Any idea where I screwed up?
Double check you have the right firmware. Also, just to test, rename your SOUNDS folder OLDSOUND. When everything is correct, it doesn't take EdgeTX any longer to boot.
You can convert your models and your model settings will transfer. However, you will lose your widgets and any additional per model pages you have. There is no workaround for this at the moment.
Hi John, I following this with interest. Just one question I see in the list for transmitters there is Horus10, but not reference to which model (ACCESS etc)?
Alan, Sorry I can't be of help on that one. I kind of stopped following FrSky after the switch to ACCESS. I'm sure the radio mainboard supports it. I don't really know what happens with regard to the transmitter itself as ACCESS is an encrypted (proprietary) protocol. All I can say is try to flash it and see if it works. If it doesn't, you *should* be able to flash back, but I have no way of knowing for sure.
Hmnnn... something went wrong with my flashing to EdgeTX. I tried to flash EdgeTX 2.9 to Jumper T-Lite v2. Now it is unresponsive. Any chance to revive it?
First try to get into bootloader. If you can do that, you can reflash. If not, watch this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H9_sxXY_K-8.html
Some description of how models are stored and read would be great. I have models on the sd card but it doesn’t seem to use those. It’s like it’s using a separate models storage area in the radio. This is a source of major confusion.
Upgrade Firmware and Companion to 2.7. Then the radio and companion will both use modelXX.yml files. Do not use Firmware 2.6+ with Companion < 2.6 as the radio will be using yaml and Companion will be using the old .bin format.
@@RCVideoReviews it’s not clear what role the “MODELS” folder serves. in fact the same is true for the SD card contents in general. Some folders or at least one folder (the sounds) are read directly that’s the only place that the read from far as I understand. But then the folder like models you would think it reads the models in there but it doesn’t and that’s what’s really confusing so I don’t even know what role that folder plays but it’s a distraction and this is what confuses people is the ambiguity. I appreciate that your videos give a more broad understanding about what’s really happening. I’d really appreciate more elaboration on this issue with the models
