The 1280DBS is the better speaker if you prefer neutral sound with no over emphasis towards a particular frequency. It's the best budget audiophile speakers for a balanced sound, well worth the price range, especially if you using to connect to a turntable for Vinyl listening...

Thank you for sharing your comparison between the two. I have Edifier Hecate G5000, and I have to say that I like them more. It say Gaming on them but it is not only for gaming. I like the material on them and the cool looking shape they have, and for the size they have weight. The sound they deliver is surprisingly good, and the connectivity options are more generous! There is no hand control. The voice when you turn them on, and every time you change the source could have been better in pronunciation, it is not possible to turn the voice off. But apart from that, they are really good. There are three pre-programmed soundscapes, one for Music, one for Movies and one for Gaming! ❤ 🤗 😊

Thank you for the diligent microphone configuration. On headphones I could really tell the difference. The 1700s have way more bass and mid-bass, and seem fuller in general

I recommend doing the tests avoiding the first desk reflex; you can place the crates so they hang over the edge. it is crucial to put the microphone in line with the tweeter (for 1700 it is more difficult because they are inclined).

The r1280dbs sounds more monitor like to my ears, almost DF-Neutral. The r1700bt sounds more warm and colored it sounds more fun. Thanks for this. Planning to get one for my dad.

July 2023 the 1700 has now subwoofer output and optical coax connector. I have both, 1280T for my computer desktop and 1700 for my turntable and AV receiver/amplifier. Plus Edifier MR 4 as monitors for my audio/ video editing Mac mini pro.

Sir, On the R1700BT: Is there less "Sound Collision" when you lower the Bass Adjustment? And will the overall sound still be more satisfying compared to the R1280DB?

Can't compare them anymore since I already sold the R1280DB. When turning down the bass on the R1700BT sounds kinda weird for me since the sound can get really thin

Great review! In your opinion, the optical input makes a huge difference? I'm a headphones lover and I have no experience with speakers, I was decided to buy the 1700bt but then i noticed the lack of optical input... Saludos man!

In paper they say there's a difference, but after doing numerous tests before, I can say I did notice a difference when using optical, but VERY minimal

@@hungrychad using optical connection you will not experience humming because it uses optical cable compared to copper on RCA connection.

Only reason optical in would matter here is if you plan on doing DSP correction by yourself. Besides that, signal wise, you could always get a cheap DAC and then connect that with Optical to your Source (PC or TV) and use the Dac's RCA out to the Speaker. Swan Speakers do have RCA, COAX and Digital (D100's for example) but they're hard to come by.

TBH when you check other comparison it's looks like that there is a problem with the R1280's here, the differences between the two shouldn't be this huge in bass.

I own both. I actually like the 1280 more. It has bass control and you can crank up the bass if you want more bass. The important thing with speakers is to be able to hear everything and he actually touched on this in that the 1700 bass muddles some of the instrument sounds because its overpowering. I end up decreasing the bass on my 1700,., I think the 1280 is better for clarity.

Very good comparison. I am going for 1280db . Coz it costs little less then 1700 in my country and also because of additional coxial and optical input which might come in handy to connect to the TV.

Great video Im having a hard time chosing between the 2 speakers Wich would you recommend between the 2 speakers for watching movies and listening to music? I currently so there is a new model edifier 1280dbs and 1700bts Wich makes it even more difficult to chose of all of the different models I just listed Wich would you recommend?

Both the 1700bts and 1280dbs have an additional subwoofer out. Personally if it's for music and movies, I'd go for the 1700bt/s

the 1700BTS are superior to both the 1700BT and the 1270DBS. Especially for Music/Movie watching as a Home theatre Speaker.

@@notsogood9449 as a user, I would say that it's great Bluetooth works great, sounds great, and the bass can be turned down a lot from the knob Personally, -3/4 bass with +4 treble is My favorite settings

Thanks for the review. Am wondering, if the 1700 were to tune down the treble and bass settings, would the different instrument sounds still be muddled up? The difference in audio depth between the two is too large to consider the R1280DB, for general usage from what I can tell

At the time of this comment, there's a 1700BT(S) which is a new version of the 1700BT, it costs around the same, fixes the muddy bass issue, comes with Bluetooth 5.0 and aptX and has a sub-out channel in case you want to make a 2.1 System. Besides that, and the Remote being higher quality on the S version, they're the same build wise. Still no optical in or coax. Still attached power cable. I would get the MR4's if you want a Studio Monitor for mixing/mastering, they have less bass but also the most comprehensive sound out of the 3. They also have a "Music Mode" you can switch to, which will give them a V shape EQ or DSP? idk... Which makes music more pleasant for some people. That's about it. If you do have the opportunity, pick up the SwanD100's for around 200$ instead, they basically give you the best of both worlds, Clarity, Bass, Volume, Design, Bluetooth, Optical, Coax, RCA. Sound like 1000$ Speakers. But yeah they're hard to come by.

If I were you, I'd rather buy the 1280dbs model with sub-out. This will add bass to your audio while the 1700 remain as it is.

Another problem is that the 1700 uses a proprietary cable to connect the right and the left while the 1280 uses standard speaker cable so if the distance between your speakers has to be a little greater than what is provided on the 1700 you are out of luck

It's not really a real world problem though is i? Most hi fi specialists (especially editors at what hi fi), recommend that speakers be no further than six feet apart...and considering the 1700's have the ability to be five meters apart; then it is, in essence, more than enough for most people.

its not proprietary, its modern and many different brands use it and you can find longer and shorter length cables

@@MrHobj34 Actually this proprietary no other speaker brand uses it and it is a modified VGA cable. A standard VGA cable cannot be used since one of the pins in the VGA cable does not provide power for the speaker. So by definition something that can only be used specifically on 1 item and one particular brand makes it proprietary. If you go on the forum for that particular set of speakers nobody since the speakers were released has yet found the replacement cable that works

I have same speaker and I becoming to do not like thm at all. Bass seems to be huge but not well balanced and quit hollow and boomy without any control. Its even difficult to have them in the loop for this reviews. I cant hear properly bass from other speakers. Im not saying that Edifier is 3x better but Im looking for more analytical sound and T20 is not that level. Anw enjoy yourself if its what do you ooking for.

The 1280DB's sound WAY thinner in your video than every other video I've seen. Something was off in your recording. The 1280 seemed to have similar bass but more laid-back treble and a more coherent sound in other videos. Maybe because It's a video mic designed to be connected to a camera.

your r1280db seems like its being played with the bass volume 0-50% I've seen other reviews of r1280db that has more bassy feel but of course r1700 can provide both clarity and bass than r1280db. good review but i dunno why it seems like this is not an honest review for these both great speakers

ohhh shittttt,,,, i bought my 1280 dbs and its on its way by now and then i watch this vid and i regret not buying the R1700BT instead.. they are literally 10$ apart for the price. but my vision is to partner my R1280dbs to a T5 subwoofer , i hope its worth it huhuhuh

I feel something is strange here. All other video test showed a difference but not that different. Here the 1280 seems tobe totally washed out compared to the 1700 and tbh I don't belive in it. Are you sure that all the tuning where the same. There is something wrong here.

They do, you get an idea of direct comparison, obviously you cannot judge the speakers on their sound tonality by themselves through youtube but if you just want a reference point to compare different models then yes. RU-vid is sufficient.

I almost bought the R1700BT and then I found out you cannot disable bluetooth. Anyone in your building can connect to your speakers anytime (password is just 0000) and play whatever they want in your home. So if you're in a city, that's a deal breaker. It was for me anyway. The R1700BTs solved this issue, but in my country it's around $60 more expensive..so I went with the Presonus 3.5 eventually.

You can only connect if you hold down the Power button to enter pairing mode. If you leave it on Line-in, Bluetooth also won't start playing randomly.

ésta grabacion esta mal, el sonido de las R1280DB suena totalmente delgado y sin bass y el sonido de las R1700BT suena equilibrado y el bass esta presente, aunquen las R1700BT tengan un poco mas de bass este video esta mal grabado, pareciera que a proposito se quiere dejar mal a las R1280DB, las he escuchado ambas y las diferencias no son asi de abismales. reitero este video esta mal grabado y los microfonos captaron pesimo el sonido

Something is wrong here. The 1280 speakers sound terrible compared to every other video that compares these to the 1700 speakers. Sorry but this video just won't help me.
