Check out my written review of Edifier S350DB vs Bose Companion 50 here: digitalstereophony.blogspot.com/2019/05/edifier-s350db-or-bose-companion-50.html
Brilliant my friend!!!! I am going to launch my upcoming video next weekend and I will include the shoutout and referral to your superb channel regarding speaker choices. Very firm with your judgment and statement. I applaud you and your gungho-ness. Thank you very much my friend💪😄...and have a lovely time🇵🇱🎶🎵🎶🎶
I had the Bose Companion 50 for a week that I returned because of a light blow appeared after 4 days. The sound was great though. I was gonna replace by another Companion 50, but, I watched this video today, and now ... You made me chose the right one ! S350DB will be the one!
I've had the pleasure of listening, testing, and tweaking an Edifier S350Db in person at my local store. At first I was totally unimpressed by how little superiority it had over the other speakers on site, but having heard about them ages ago, decided to take a look at the settings menu. Oh my goodness, no wonder it sounded like a muffled mess with no clarity and only cheap sounding boomy, not so deep bass, thanks to someone who thought it was a brilliant idea to max out the subwoofer volume and bass boost and muffle out the treble. After some tuning by ear, I moderated the bass by cranking down the subwoofer volume to a much more sensible setting while keeping just touch of base boost, accompanied with just enough treble boost to bring out the clarity. I used my memory of what I heard from a familiar bass heavy music track with both strong bass and clear vocals played through my EQed and room corrected Edifier R2800s as the reference. Less than a week after my tweaks were made, the speakers were sold.
I had the Bose Companion 3 II set, until eventually trying to keep the cracking and poping noises away became too much of a hassle! Your video helped me decide for Edifier! Thank you so much!
Finally, a sound demo from this channel where at least one of the speaker systems leaves me with no desire for more bass to more accurately present the music.
I listening to this demo video via my Bose Companion 2 Series II desktop speakers and you can hear the differences the Bose Companion 3's seem to have no good middle tones, mostly highs and seem to not have the complete full sound. The Edifier S350DB have a richer more complete full spectrum of sound and better base.+
This is the most one sided battle since Joe Calzaghe fought Jeff Lacey. The Edifier wins by a complete shut out. CompuBox stats, Edifier threw 500 punches with with 499 punches landing. Bose threw 3 light jabs and a fart with nothing landing.
Excellent video. I am surprised. I did not think edifier could move to Bose. By the way, i had the edifier e3100, also 2.1 almost 9 years; and never lost quality.
I wonder how many years it takes for common consumers to finally realize when some big brands such as Bose that used to be good are now not that good? Polk is another brand that is following this path of not being very good anymore. They are just pulling the wool over our eyes. Then you have brands out of nowhere such as Edifier that is actually putting out good stuff.
As expected, don't even waste your money on bose speakers. *-Edifier* : Flatter response (I might turn the bass a bit lower for balance, just my taste). *-Bose* : Frequency is all over the place, Way too much sub bass and upper bass making everything else sound muddy, mid bass and mids are scooped, and there's a spike at the higher frequencies that makes it too sibilant on certain tracks. There's a reason why bose doesn't publish any measurements.
yeah that subbass is SUPER annoying.. even for every other in the house like you cant even listen to it on low levels without anyone else hearing you already.. while theres no mid bass and mids.. than that roaring upper bass pared with just highs and unclean overboosted subbass is left.. id rather like to listen just to mids and "mid bass" than this way if I HAD to chose its just a frequency mess..

And that Bose is almost twice as expensive, at least in my country, what a shame. Edifier S350DB is almost perfect for a non-professional high quality speaker system. Can't wait to buy mine :)
Great comparison!! I'm owner of the Edifier S350DB and I love it. There is no mids on Bose Companion 50. Please make the comparison between Edifier S350DB vs Edifier S360DB. greetings from Mexico City.
Normally 2.1 systems suffer from a dip near the sub crossover point but in this case the BOSE has a dip in the lower midrange for some odd reason, giving an incomplete sound. Has to be an issue with the satellites design or the DSP.
I own a set of BOSE companion 50 (purchased 5 years ago) because I didnt know better, since then I purchased a set of Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 which already sound 100X better than the Bose and cost half the price. These Edifier will rip a new hole to the Bose. If you want to make a video on Why Audiophiles hate BOSE. This is the video to use. Bose is only for those people who dont care how their media is suppose to sound (ie My wife). It takes up less space and look pretty, that's about it.
@@gelomc.johnson5708 A year late, but Klipsch Promedia 2.1 is probably the best "value" pick you can get. You can get 2 sets for less than the price of 1 of the Edifier, and they outperform basically anything else up to the price of the Edifier... so they make a great secondary set for less used places, or just a budget set if not looking to spend money.
That was gruesome, my ears are bleedin now...and there are still people out there that ask why Bose gets so much hated on...the next that asks me, when something like that comes up...will be directed to this video...that should clarify it for all eternity. :) And btw i liked your comparison from kitchen radio to full grown hifi, that hits the nail on its head quite well. :)
Wow.. what a difference in sound! Edifier has such power and presence compared to Bose that it's not even funny :) And there is not much difference to the source which is really nice. A little more bass, but I like that.
I had the Edifiers here. It is quit okay, but they lack mids, due to its heavy bass and tuning towards the highs. I have the audio pro addon t14 and they sound more natural. The edifiers also had a constant voice, maybe because of the builkd in amplifier. I ordered an audio pro addon sub to geht that extra bass. but its much more expansive of course. edifiers are great, if you manage to get some without noises.
i don't think people do realise this, but considering the price the s350DB are relatively cheap for what they offer, idk about the mids tho the mids are there so idk what you're on about, Zeos did a review on them and he praised it.
I own the S530D and tried both S350DB and S360DB The most noticeable change is scooped mids with more treble range and deeper bass tldr: S530 sounds midrangey while S350DB/360DB a deep V shape tone When compared side by side the S530D has better overall midrange with somewhat okay treble and midrangey bass The S350DB and S360DB has quite laidback mid response but their trebles are extended and sounds sharper. Bass extends way deeper to the sub range which is amazing for movies but due to the smaller cabinet of the subwoofer it chugs when it plays loud compared to S530D hard slamming musical sub
The Battle of Bass vs Clarity. I went with Bose (Clarity) It I were 30 years younger, I'd probably roll with the Edifier. Great Job with the Demonstration. -Thanks-
??? In the second song, the bose sounds so muffled... Clarity and bass goes to the Edifier. Edit in the Heart afire you notice that the bose doesnt even have tweeters...
Those are actually Edifier S351DB I have them and I like it so much. Best purchase ever. I would like to see a comparation with the Razer Nommo Pro , which is more than double the price of the edifier .
As far as i know, the Bose Companion 5 and 50 are not made especifically for music, but for movies, emulating a 5:1 home theatre. And those lacs medium frequencies a lot, because you have not a mid bass.
Thanks for this comparison. Was the mic at the same level for both the speakers? Companion 50's are computer speakers which are meant to be placed on computer desks, in this way, their satellites would be below ear level, in your video, the satellites of the Bose are almost at the same level as mic. I'm wondering if they'd sound better if the mic was placed a little higher, like at the level human ear would be at if they were sitting at a computer desk. One also has to account for the vertical arrangement of drivers in Edifier's satellites and horizontal arrangement of drivers in Bose's satellites, because of this, the sound may interact differently. In the video I think Edifier's sound better than Companion 50's. But if possible can you do a video with my suggestion.
I get Your point, the mic is a bit off axis, but in relity there is very little (if any) difference between this position and perfect on axis position. I try to make my comparisons as fair as possible, and if I would realize that this setup is unfair for any of the speakers I would change it. I also tested these speakers for few days on my desk and unfortunately they do not sound any better on desk either. Cheers!
Bose companion must be the trash can. Seriously what were the engineer testers smoking in the sound test lab when they were supposed to be adjusting the acoustics for this set up
Its basic audio dsp bose uses. In person when not compared to anything it sounds fine actually. But played back to back against something else that isn't dsp...ing the hell out of the audio, you notice the technique they use like lowering the mids to make the highs and lows more present. But record that like they did in the comparison and it makes the effect even more pronounced. That said, for the price, yeah, its a bit much for what you get.
The BOSE is a classic theatrical speaker, i heard on big BOSE sytem a rock concert and was awful... But when a classic or jazz maybe bluse music sounds on it, i think it's winner. So much highs and few mids, it is bad for listening to general music. The Edifier is awesome, not few and not much in the most time. Sometimes for me, the highs a little bit few. I like it better the BOSE highs, but all in all the Edifier win this match.
I tested the bose at home. They sound like a tin can with the bass set to minimum. Overall the soundquality is not justified for what you pay for. I‘ll return them asap.
wow, what a review, those edifier, wow and im hearoing it on a bose companion 2, i used to have the Companion 5 i think ediefer sounds way better, thank you!
I am using t bose c50 and it sounds very nice.the video is not providing the detailed output that the bose delivers. Though I haven't heard the edifier
I sold Edifier S730 because of the lack of lower bass in the system. Can someone tell me how low does the Edifier S350 goes so that I don't end up dissapointed again? p.s. I know that their site states 40-160hz, but the sub has port, which somewhat extends it. And I already understood that these numbers are not always true, the S730 had 20-130hz frequency responce stated in their site, which is a bad joke for a sub that hardly goes 40hz.
I listened it in every room, even in other houses, and it was better in some places. But the roll off under 45hz was real. You were blasted with high bass & then the sub just mumbled when it came to below 40. It sounded stupid.
20 hz, 25 cm possible with 750-1000W . Def Tech Supercube 1, 25 cm and 1500W :) It hit 13 hz. My Sub REL T9 300W AB Class -6dB 28 hz. You wanna serious lower bass, you need real sub like these. Z2300 Sub very good for lower bass even better than Z5500 but sat are fucking joke.
What's the bass like on the Edifier's? Is it tight and well-controled or loose and boomy? I have cheap 2.1 speakers from Logitech and was thinking of upgrading to Edifier M3600D, between this and S350DB which one is better?
Just a warning to anyone looking to buy these, Edifier have no support in Europe so if you have any out of warranty issues you're out of luck getting replacement parts.
MDR, to see how the Edifier S350DB literally atomizes Bose 's Companion 50. The sound of the latter is really not terrible not to say mediocre. No wonder, Bose has always been overvalued, apart from sporting a nice design, the rest is really not worth much. The volume for the advertised power is often low and the sound in its entirety is artificial and metalic as possible, yuck. At the price they sell their speakers, it's way too expensive for what they're worth. I have never understood why he sold so much, must believe that there are those who trust that appearance.
@@DSAUDIOreview pity, but thanks for your comparisons anyway. Love them a lot. And in the meantime I am alredy thinking of klipsch the sixes thanks to your video. :)
Something seems off with your Bose speakers. They're likely still the losers (I have the Companion 3 II series). The mids are pretty bad / non-existent. However, the representation here (through your recording?) doesn't represent the source track when playing through the bose speakers. Especially Full Spead and Heart Afire. The video recording of the bose sounds extremely "tinny" vs. the source track played through the Bose. Also, while the Bose are not even close to being called studio monitors (they are multimedia speakers for general consumers, not for accuracy) if you tune the bass dial in the back to about 30% (assuming 50% = 0 gain) you'll get a flatter / more neutral sound. At default / recommend (50%), most tracks are overcome by flat bass (IMO). I'm not defending Bose... it's not even a close fight and if I were to buy speakers today, it wouldn't be bose. However, it just doesn't sound right.
I always knew Bose was overrated, but I'm truely shocked! For a system that was priced more than double the Edifier, it wasn't even close! Bose should be ashamed...
Edifier but you are talking about 2 different stuff that Bosé model was made back in 2006 and the edifier it was maked what 2016 or 2017 ir course different drivers but its all Up to you guys how much you want to expend....
Don't forget Bose is a pioneer they have earned their position others have followed. It seems that the comparison is a bit rigged here against Bose. Companion 50 is the best in class multimedia speaker.
Bose has that annoying "oomph/ratteling" (from the cheap and non exsistent enclosure decoupling so it transfers even more unwanted vibrations..) which you can still hear like 2 stairs down but no really clean kick or well bass at all - and literally NO mids like WTF? o.O
@@DSAUDIOreview thanks but for near field dektop configuration i need the opposite : something that sounds good (detailed and punchy) at low volume. do you have an advice for small speakers that delivers that or will i only get that with headphones ? i loved the sound of my jbl 305 but only at high volume. at low volume they were really dull.
Bose has an amazing marketing team to be able to trick so many people for so long that their products create quality sound. There is just something about it... It just sounds artificial and I've never liked it. I'm putting in my Amazon order for the Edifer system as we speak.
I have a Bose Companion 3 Series 2, and it´s also terrible. First time I listened, I thought it was broken. I need to use heavy equalization to make it audible. Check out one of my videos with it comparing to an old Altec speaker: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7b-erhR5hRU.html
