Love the vid. I have bose, Ae2W but need a pair of ANC's after getting a pair of Edifer bookshelf speakers that are on par with my yamahas HiDef Speaker, im def considering the W860NB Not sure about the headphones, but on the speakers they do have some compression / sound dapening happening if turn up the speaker real loud, most likely to protect themselfs, stop distortion and clipping.

Also can you do a vid or tell us how you get your over head/top down shots... I need the set up

I’m glad you have done this review. It always seems that reviewers are taking it too hard on Sony compare to cheaper brands like Edifier, Cowin, Bluedio and others..Re the unboxing-you are absolutely right! Sony has been cutting corners on packaging forever. However, I do not consider my self as an audiophile, but as someone who’s been mixing records for years for fellow musicians, these brands don’t come even close when it comes to sound. Sony has it together re balancing highs ,mids and bass.. The problem starts when I hear people say something like: “it sounds great for the price”..it puts any headphones in discussion as a prime suspect. Also, cheap material does break down and there are levels of plastic/metal consistency, which I find inadequate in many of these cheaper brands. Btw, $180 retail price is not cheap.That is the retail price of SkullCandy venue, which sounds GREAT and do have an excellent presentation, as well as a nice case. My 2 cents..

Thank you for this! This is not available here in my country, but would try to order them when I go to the US. I got to try the XM3's, QC35's, and the Anker Soundcore stage one after the other in a mall. If you don't care about how loud your headphone gets, I would say the Ankers offer great sound and good enough noise-cancelling (close to Sony's) for only $100. The problem is, the earcups could be a bit too small for some people (my self included).The QC35's, for me offered the clearest sound, but I felt some strong pressure in my ear canal when I turned noise-cancelling on.

I know you can't hear the packaging however, it makes it perfectly clear just how Passionate and Dedicated to their products‼ Edifier kicks butt, check out their W380NB....incredible! 860NBsEnjoying the headphone reviews. Recently saw MPOW release the H21. They look nice but I'm also looking at the Edifier 860 NB. Heard these had a lot more features than the 830BTs but not as loud. Would love to see a comparison between the MPOW H21 and Edifier 860NB. Thanks

The 860s are surprisingly good, especially at the sub $100 price point you can find them for now. I have an expensive pair of Sony's that were $300 retail and got them for $160 on flash sale. The 860s at $85 were a better overall value, for sure. The Sonys win the "pure sound" category and have USB-C but that's about it.

I haven't gotten a Sony since the first one just because there is always a cheaper alternative and people should know about them, Love it

I know I'm late on commenting. I'm thoroughly impressed with my May 5th purchase of my NUSED (new to me but used) Edifier W860NB. Everything JDL stated is true. These cans are awesome. I haven't tried the Sony WH1000XM3 (except at Best Buy) and yes the Sony's ANC is no joke.

Between this and the Skullcandy Crusher in terms of sound, which do you recommend?

Please let me add some of my thoughts: ANC on Sony cannot work alone, you have to switch the phones on, I think Edifier will be winning here :) You did not mention the weight of those devices, It will affect comfort... I have only Sony for now and it is light (M3 version). Too bad that the daughter of Edifier 830BT lost 2/3 of the battery capacity of the parent:( Also you did not mention if there is any difference in sound when switching on and off ANC or with wire connection and same on-off swiching ANC and Power buitton. In your opinion: let's say you have the budget... what will you buy: Edifier 860 or Bose 35 ii? Thanks for the great work! Mike

It's great a thing that you not only go into detail about a product, but suggested based on what criteria you are looking for in a headphone (ANC, sound quality, build, price vs budget, etc). Since I'm on a tight budget... I like the idea that the Edifier W860NB comes close as much as a budget headphone can get to goliath like Sony's WH1000XM3, with a price that it is... I'm definitely sold on this Edifier. The last ANC I had was the Audiotechnica ANC9.

Pardon me for contradicting 'Just Doin' Life TV's' position on the Edifier W860NB. I have the Sony WH 1000XM2 (not the WH 1000XM3.) I also have the Edifier W860NB. Not considering prices, they are classes apart. The Sony WH 1000XM2’s fit, finish, and form together with its sound is both outstanding, and pleasing. Upon handling up the Edifier W860NB, one could immediately tell that it is a lower quality product. I usually pick up my headphones just at the slider connections: With the WH 1000XM2, there is a neatness, and easiness of build everywhere. With the W860NB, at the slider points, where the plastic meets the foam headband, there are pointy edges, and corners at all joints. Going lower to the ear-cups, in some areas, it looks hand painted. The Sony’s sliders are snappy, and secure. The Edifier’s sliders lacks the Sony’s to the point of feeling jerry-built. The Sony provides a full range of sound with excellent dynamics, and balance. There is no boominess, nor is there harshness to the sound. The Edifier is sloped upwards towards the high end. The sound, though pleasant, seems empty at the lower ranges. Originally I thought that it was a tightness to the bass, however, upon continuous listening, I have determined that, as suggested, the mid to lower ranges are lacking. There is no need to discuss noise-cancelling function as there is no comparison. The Edifier W860NB is probably worth its price. The Sony WH 1000XM2 is more than worth what I paid for it. Further, I don’t use the Sony App as I have no need for fine-tuning of the WH 1000XM2. If there was one drawback to the Sony, it is that it can only be paired to one device at a time. I don’t know if that is true for the Edifier as I haven’t tried to multiple-device pair it. In fact, the primary reason that I got the W860NB, is that I use the Sony between the computer, and a tablet, and I abhor having to pair, and re-pair to each device. The WH 1000XM2 is delightfully comfortable while the W860NB is not. I have a smaller head, but larger ears. I find that W860NB leaves the back (strangely) of my ears crushed, and its clamping force is uncomfortable. Though both headphones' ear-cups are similarly sized, the Sony's are millimetres longer with the Edifier's being millimetres wider. Final thought: If the Sony WH 1000XM3 is at least equal in performance to the WH 1000XM2, save up your money and get the Sony WH 1000XM3 for the Edifier is truly budget oriented. Volume on edifier w860nb over bluetooth connection is lower than direct wired connection especially on widows! Any help to troubleshoot this?

To be honest, I did not notice too much of a quality improvement with the app with the Sony. What did make a huuuuge difference in sound quality was disabling of ANC, the headphones really come alive at that point and they be bangin! I thnk the app is not as necessary. I use the XM3 with PC (no app there) and phone and do not see much of a difference in quality.

If I want good music quality with good bass (I love Victory version 1), would you recommend W860NB or W830BT? I really like the long battery life of W830BT, and NC is not something I must have. But occasionally I'll travel by plane, and I feel Victory's passive noise isolation is good enough for me. What are your thoughts?

I bought headphones not working: 1) discharging themselves - which the service did not repair and did not inform that the headphones do not turn off when the anc is on 2) left earphone buzzing the sound is average, and the ANC mode neither good nor bad, I am surprised by the positive opinions and comparisons to much more expensive models

This just popped up in my feeds. I haven't heard the Edifier but I own a Sony WH-1000XM3. When I bought the Sony XM3, it had a soft but annoying clicking sound on the left ear cup joint whenever I am chewing gum or making sudden movements. Noisy joints and headbands are common in cheaper headphones and few people will complain about it but since this is a $350 pair of headphones, I felt that it shouldn't have this problem. It had been already a month since I purchased it when I brought it in a Sony Service Center to have it checked and fixed. They called me up the following day and told me to go to the store where I purchased it to get another pair as a replacement and so I did just that with a plan that I will not leave that store until I can find a pair that is perfect. Fortunately, the first pair that the store manager and I opened was perfect and I took it and have been using it for months now without any problem. Do you think Edifier will do the same if a customer complains about a slightly noisy headband? I hope that the answer is also yes.

Does the ANC of Edifier W860NB work in wired mode? Does the ANC feature work smoothly, if I use them to listen to audios in wired mode keeping Bluetooth off?

Nice comparison. I have the W860NB and these are really a good pair of headphones for its price. I compared it to my brother's Sennheiser HD 4.50 and I can tell you that the sound quality and ANC of the W860NB is on par with the HD 4.50. 🤘

Also not sure if you heard the news but apparently Type C is going the way of the Betamax. Sadly not enough companies utilize it. I love it on my Huawei Mate 9 but even Huawei is dropping it and I think that's how I heard about it. I’m torn between this and Sony WH 1000MX3 the price is not a factor ...my concern is comfort mostly cos am sure both have them have good sound quality ...which one can wear over a long period of listening sessions without ear fatigue or pains from any clamping force that we experience using most headphones ..only Bose i know provides enough comfort

Hello, how do you doing?! Man, about Edifier sound quality...I'm looking for something with (maybe a lot of) bass presence. Do you recomend it? I ask it because I just bought Sony Wh-ch700n, and how I'm regret of it!! THERE IS NO BASS on this phone!!! When I use the app, the sound is great, but it just work on the phone. Without the app, the sound is too simple!! I use it on PC to work, so I need to use with cabo, and there is no app for PC.
