I used both, from my experience, Sony has better sound quality, but Bose is comfier from longer hours usage, no stress on ears, whereas Sony made my ears hurt after a few hours of use.
It really depends on the genre of music you listen to. The Bose you can definitely separate each musical instrument when listening to rock, classical, jazz and has a wider sound stage. The Sony is more boomy and has a much deeper, yet artificial bass for hip hop, edm. If you're a bass head, Sony. If you're more of a musical enthusiast that appreciates a more purer cleaner sound, the Bose.
I got beats studio 3 and Sony, I regret ever getting the beats. The gap between the two is enormous, If it weren’t for the nice option colors nobody would ever buy beats headphone, it’s absolute trash.
@@angrysasuke3875 Omg dude same here! I bought the beats studio 3 thinking I was cool but when I got them I was soooo disappointed in everything from lack of good bass to shitty noise cancelling, and guess what they broke after 8 months due to poor quality since my hinge fell off literally by sitting on my head, i did not drop them or hit them. Got them replaced via warranty for brand new pair and guess what? they arent being used you can find them on Facebook marketplace and craigslist LOL I am buying Sony XM3s and never looking back.
August -lmao mine broke too after few months, the headband suddenly cracked for no absolute reason despite the fact that i rarely ever used them, thought it was strange
P I z z a I literally just picked up my Sony xm3 for 240usd brand new, and selling my brand new beats studio for 200$ god the difference is night and day
Understand, but you do get what you pay for. The right cup interactions are worth looking into, else I would say you are correct. These are higher quality if you physically put them side-by-side with others.
Im still very happy with my Bose because I like the styling better and they are in a slimmer shape. Yes the Sony sounds better and has more features but im just in love with my Bose
@@patriotsouthern8123 are they loud tho? Because I listen to rap too I need something louder then the sennheiser's I got a few months ago... Like something loud in volume like the original Beats by Dre's but with better sound quality
Love the sound signature of Sony M3's but the most amazing feature for me is the ability to release cabin pressure during flights when reaching high altitudes and when landing, by activating the atmospheric optimizer of the headphone. I used it for a couple of international flights and cabin pressure on my ears hurts no more. It's so great.
@@lynnguyen7010 Yes you could, when you're on a flight, upon reaching a high altitude or when about to land and you start to feel then pain of cabin pressure on your ears, just press & hold for 3 secs the ambient button of the Sony's and you will hear a voice prompt "Optimizer start" or you could also do that in the Sony's Headphone app on the settings "Atmospheric Pressure Optimizing" and the cabin pressure goes away. You could repeat the process several times until you feel the desired comfort on your ears.
Agree. I tried Bose QC but they gave me headaches and made me nauseated. However with sony’s feature, its much more comfortable to use. No more pain or headaches!
I've had my QuietComfort 35 Series I for around 4 years and they still work perfectly. I've had to replace the ear cushions once, and might need to do it again sometime soon, but they've never failed me.
I have both and i can honestly say i enjoy the Bose far more than the Sony. The dual pairing and the physical buttons is much more convenient in my opinion. I bought the Sony expecting to be blown away due to all of the hype behind it but tbh i wasn't a fan because it sounds muddy from the bass imo. They are both good headphones but i would highly recommend whoever is considering buying them to try them both at a local best buy or other tech spot.
Listening to this video on my Sony WH-1000Xm3 headphones bluetoothed to my Sony XBR65X900E TV. Having both of these headphones at my place of work made it easy to compare. Having owned many headphones and not really using any of them consistently after a couple weeks, despite enjoying them for the most part, I was surprised by how frequently I WANT to just pop the sony's on my head even for short periods. They just sound awesome, clean and rich and clear and full. Like you said, much better mids. Clean, punchy bass, not overwhelming bass, just rich bass that compliments the rest of the music, that allows you to hear other details. And I LOVE the ambient sound mode. As a parent needing to keep my ears open for my toddlers and the inevitable destruction they are wreaking, ambient sound is fantastic and allows me to hear my music, and my kids.
Perfect well explained video, had a nice pace, and also matched the researching I did on these 2 headphones. Going for the sony's and I hope it's worth it. I've worn my friend's qc35s for literally 2 minutes and ever since then I've fell in love with it and anc headphones. The bose's comfort is king, it is like your ears are floating in space when you wear them, but I can get the sony's for free using a points program from my credit card (and the bose's aren't available in my cc points program). Well deserved sub! Edit: *disclaimer that this is from my experience so everything here will not be the same as your experience* The sony's are pretty nice, not as comfy as the bose (at least from my 2 minute experience from the bose). The most annoying part of the sony's are that they can only connect to one device at a time. If these would connect to two devices at a time, then switching between devices would be so easy. The app is also very easy to use and the cool part is the adaptive sound control. It senses when you are sitting down vs moving around so it will adjust the noise cancellation (not that I would use this since I wouldn't use this outside, but I was just really surprised by it when I walked around the house). The sound on these things are also superb, I was using a plantronics backbeat pro 2 before this and the plantronics definitely aren't as comfy or even close to sounding as good as the sony's audio quality (almost like I'm listening using a plugged in headset). You can also change the button for ambient control/noise cancellation to google assistant in the app, and the touch controls are a little finicky. I would have preferred physical buttons, but I guess these work pretty well for what they are (98% accurate touches every single time). The second con of this headset is that they don't pause music if you take them off, the plantronics did, and it is just such a convenient feature. You also look like an idiot when you try to palm the right can on the headset to activate the ambient control, but it's pretty damn cool. The mic also sucks on the sony headset, people will be able to hear you, but obviously, it ain't going to be very good.
Unless I missed it in the video, sound leakage is often a huge factor in deciding which set of cans to go with. The Bose lose in this category by a mile. I feel this needs to be a part of any thorough review. Thanks for your excellent work
D K I was a Bose fan too (I own Soundtrue ultra in ear and soundsport) until Bang and Olufsen came along and Bose started to feel inferior and cheap to me in terms of sound and material..
Great video! I got the Bose qc35 a little over a year ago and wear them for hours everyday. I sometimes forget I’m even wearing them but my favourite feature is switching from my iPad - phone by simply pausing one device. (If they’re both playing audio, the headphones switch instantly from one device to the next) I’ve never owned the Sony’s but they do look a little chunkier and less stylish imo lol
This is an excellent review, great content and presentation. One thing I will mention is that a lot of people tend to say that the Sony's have better sound quality because of the punch of the bass. I don't understand why people focus on bass so much when there's such a wide variety of music where bass is not always desired at the level that the Sony's offer. I do appreciate the equalizer in the Sony app though, but it is frustrating that people just seem to think that more bass means better sound quality.
Do you know whats even more annoying? The Sony's sound way too bassy if you don't apply EQ. They actually sound like shit - And you can't apply any EQ when using it wired. So you can kiss in-flight entertainment goodbye!
most modern music is super bassy. If you dont listen to bass heavy music then the sonys are not actually a good choice. Like me: I listen to mostly classical. The sonys are a bad choice for that
Using the Sony's for a year now, superb flight silencing which was a key selling point for me, great battery power, USB C is a huge plus as my phone uses the same and only one charger is needed, the speed chargin is amazing too, not mentioned here is the sony NFC functionality which I use extensivly to switch between my PC/Laptop and my phone. They are really airtight, even when listening to music really loud my wife sitting next to me cant hear much which just adds to the overall listening experience. For sound quality I much more preffer the Sony's as well, did listen to both on pre recorded tracks in the store and well, they did just sound better to me but that is personal prefference.
Did any problems occur at low temperatures? (Ghosting at the touchpad shall appear at 10° Celsius and lower :/) would you recommend to by them now at this pricepoint? Had some really bad experience in the past with expensive headphones...
Hi, I like your video because I'm french and you speak clearly enough for me to understand you. Thanks to you, now I know which headphones I will buy and I have improve my english!
I only listen to classical music and have been enjoying the Bose QC35 II for almost two years now. Those headsets are just FA-BU-LOUS !!!! The sound quality is more than divine ... It leaves any other headset in the dust !!!
I have both only because the Sony was on sale and had such good review. I do agree that the Sony does have better sounds, ANC, and app. For my head, the Bose is more comfortable. I also prefer the physical buttons on the Bose. One thing the reviewer didn't mention, but I realized very useful after many months of uses; the Bose can connect to 2 devices at a time and very easy to change to different saved devices in its memory without going to the settings of any devices. Sony can only connect to one at a time and to switch to another saved device requires you go to BT setting of current device to disconnect it and BT setting of 2nd device to connect it. I know it's a first world problem!!! My recommendation after many months of use is if you mostly rely on one device for your headphones, then I'd go with the Sony. If you constantly switch between devices (in my case - phone, ipad, chromebook, PC, and android tablet) and need 2 connections at a time, then I'd seriously look at the Bose. Ease of use and convenient do matter over times. I like the sound of Sony, but I kept gravitate to the Bose for daily use because how easy it is the change between devices.
I really like the quick charging on the Sony M3’s & the convenience & even the voice message telling me when battery is getting low etc , just feels more of an advanced system that works so well in different areas on theses Sony headphones
Igor Perin I’ve always really enjoyed their balanced sound, and with the app, they are extensively configurable for EQ. The ANC is “good”, but not as good as the PXC-550 (which I’m also trying now), and certainly not as good as the Sony’s being reviewed here. I really like the Sennheiser sound profile, they start out very balanced, somewhat more bass than the normal profile, it very clear miss and highs as well. And they are VERY durable. Most times 8 simply put them in their microfiber pouch, put them in my bag and go. I’ve never had any issues with multi-device switching, nor any issues with comfort. Again though, after a week with the Sony’s, they seem like five-year old tech (which they are). I keep them for around the house listening and still use them as a Plan “B”.
You forgot one crucial thing - how do both perform on the heat/sweat factor after wearing for 1+ hour? If they are uncomfortable, doesnt matter how good the sound quality is.
I had the borrowed the sony from a friend for a trip, I could not wear them longer than 2/3h at the time. Too hot and became unconfortable. Bought the bose and just came back from a trip from Bangkok to Europe, and for me the Bose where the right choice. I would give the sony a little bit better noise cancelling. But end of the day if I cant wear them for 6h or more at the time, Bose wins.
@RedPanda I tried out both of these for an extended period of time here in Dubai where the climate can be a bit warmer...well hot actually. I definitely became more uncomfortable with the Sony’s after 1.5 - 2 hrs and needed to take them off. The Bose somehow gave my big ears room and the curiously enough the music I was listening just felt lighter in the Bose. I wish it were the Sony’s though because like the reviewer, I think it’s a better product.
Alexander Binder Yeah I agree. I think with these type of headphones, comfort is even more important than sound quality. And as long as the Bose sounds decent, I would prob choose most on comfort, including resistance to sweating.
You can use the Sony with two devices (limited). They have one bluetooth connection for HQ music playback (aptX, LDAC etc.) and one for HSP/HFP. For instance I can connect my voip phone (desk) with the Sony and playing music from my mobile. If a call goes in, I click on headset and can talk over the headphone. A colleague showed me that (he owns the Bose). The music on the smartphone won't stop, but its muted until you finished calling, then you hear music again ;) On my android system there is also written in the bluetooth connection that it can only play music and not used as a headset when I connect it with the voip phone. Maybe this works also with the computer. One downside, if you use it on the PC with the passive mode (with cable) it sounds like garbage, you have to activate them to sound like always (there is also an impendance change). Second if you try to use the microphone on Windows 10 then the output switches to the bad HFP mode instead using the HQ codec. But its not a gaming headset, otherwise it would be the best overall headset ever.
I got the Sony pair. They are my favorite headphones (so far) that I've ever had. I'm new to noise cancelling tech, so it's nice, since my neighbors are very loud. I can tune them out and everything else (instead of pushing in uncomfortable earplugs). They seem to work well on phone calls, though I was told I sound like I'm "in a bubble".
Just bought the QC35 II today and had a really hard time deciding between the two. To me it came down to the comfortability. And that is where Bose outshines Sony. At least to me. Yeah, the sound on the XM3 is a bit better (but not much). Also the overall tech is a bit more fancy. But these factors are not that much of a benefit and I can easily do without them. Either way both headphones are amazing and will make their owner quite happy.
Both are very comfortable. I don't like Sony's issue with multi-bluetooth connections. Out of the box the Bose sounds more clear and better balanced. The Sony is way to bassy for me. The mids are a bit muddy. I'm a big Sony fan, but that made my decision for the QC35II.
Sometimes I put my Sony's flat on the table and ...just admire the beauty of the "beast". They are my first ANC headphones and I'm loving them. The only down side is the limited multipoint connection and I think, for having tried the Bose, the comfort as well. It's just an inch below the Bose. Sondwise, I like some bass so it's excellent. When I need less bass all I do is just adjust it in th app. It's all a matter of preference.
If you are use a lot of time disconnecting and reconnecting the headphones from phone to pc then you may enjoy this little program i made. It sends a message to your phone to turn off Bluetooth and then activates Bluetooth auto-connect on your pc. It can all happen by clicking a keyboard shortcut to. github.com/Jesper-Hustad/HeadphoneBluetoothSwap
I'm buying one or the other this week. After reading 100+ reviews on both, I've seen a common trend: The Sony call microphone (sound from the other end of your call) is pretty bad and headband breakage seems to be a common issue (not covered under warranty).
😄Hahaha!! I'm laughing because I literally spent yesterday abd all this morning doing the same thing! I ended up ordering the Bose... N I'm still questioning whether I made the right choice💆Idk... They'll be here tomorrow, so I guess I'll see then! Lol. It was between these two in this video(Sony & Bose), and also the Beats Studio3 were also in the running when I first started researching. I not so quickly cut the Beats out of the running. Lol! Tbh I just love the look and variety of colors they come in. That's all... So I figured instead of buying $300 headphones cuz they're aesthetically pleasing, I should be smarter! Anyways... I'm blabbering now. I almost wish I got the Sony. I guess if I really change my mind I'll just exchange them! Good luck👍🙂
Truly the atmospheric optimizer is an extremely underrated feature. My 68 years old Mum is flying restrictions for several years as she's prone to severe earache. We even consulted a couple of ENT's with no resolve. Now if the Sony M3 can help her fly, there's no words to thank them enough 🙂🙏. Ironically, as a part of my job, I have even sold a few of this headset, unaware of this fantastic boon. Sincere gratitude to this RU-vidr for posting this video.
@@janzac4797 Bose has the upper hand on comfort ability. But it's not like you cant have the Sony's on for hours. Bose is just lighter. That might be the only thing bose has on it
Just looking at the bose, let alone handling it in your hands you know its in a diferent league to the sonys build quality. Having physical buttons excellent. i do like the app control of the sony, but that touch control is a pita!
I liked that you gave the smallest details like the Bose has 2.5 mm jack on one side and that Sony cannot connect to 2 devices at once. Nice video. Thanks a lot.
I have tried the Sony's and they sound amazing. I own the QC35 II and prefer the physical buttons over gesture controls. If I could afford both, I would use the Sony's for listening to hip hop only, and Bose for everything else. I would definitely choose Bose for movie watching during a flight.
I've had the Bose QC35II for 2 years, and was never happy with how they felt:1) physical comfort - I suspect these are made for LARGE heads but for me, they always felt like the headband was about to slip backwards and off my head 2) I felt weird with the noise cancellation on, I guess it's what people refer to as cabin pressure (but it happens all the time), and also when I touch the plastic casing while the headphones were on, the mic would amplify the sound. Anyway, I just bought the Sony WH-XB900N and WOW I LOVE them. The most comfortable sitting on my head and over my ears, and the sound is much more comfortable and natural. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM. The Sony 1000M3 are obviously fantastic too but the XB900 has more comfy ear cushions.
I’m glad you’re one of the very few honest about their mic. Actually it’s not because of wind. Overall Sony perform very poor even in indoor noisy places like coffee shop or chatty office. With some people getting very early batch of Sony, the mic is unusable at all and I’d suggest sending them to Sony. Bose mic win not only its physical implementation, it is its processing picking our voice way better than anything in the market. I’ve posted mic tests of lots of headphones and you’d be surprised how many headphones struggle as comparing to Bose.
Wouldn't one be a fool to spend 300$ on average headphones only because they have a better microphone? I'd rather get the 10 other better features for the same price.
@@SpringloftStudio Talking about solely the Bose vs Sony, the ONLY two features the Bose has better are the double Bluetooth connectivity and the SLIGHTLY ever better comfort. The Sony butchers the Bose in every single other department. Have you even watched the video? The Sony is a no brainer for the ultimate package seeker.
I was a paradigm user for years....until I tried the bose qc2....IM IN A condo and I have to be considerite of my neighbors..I'm fairly satisfied with the performance....after a few days of listening I'm getting accustomed to the feeling...
quick explanation on short cable chargers: most people arent aware that the shorter the cable the quicker the charge, by using a 1 foot cable you can assure that you'll be able to charge your phone "quickly" regardless of the amperage output of a given usb port, most commercially available ports in cars, planes and public usb stations will output around 500mah to 1 amp, rarely you will find something at 2 or higher, dc outputs rapidly looses strenght over distance and if sony provides you with a 5 foot cable and you try to use this in your subaru's wimpy 500 mah port your headphones will take FOREVER to charge
As I have compromised hearing in both ears, I would like a more detailed review on the Sony sound-molding & equalizer features in the Sony app. I'm returning the Bose I just bought & getting the Sony. Music & TV are more important to me than ambiant sound dampening. Thanks for a well produced & informative video. Catmandude
Just lost --> forgotten somewhere I will never remember, my Bose, Just bought the Sony (both reviews here). I was very pleased with my Bose, but today I’ve decided for a different brand, and I loved the overall design (specially the beige color; ) of the Sony WH-1000Xm3
I have the wired QC25 & bought the XM3 two months ago. The Sony’s sound & ANC is a lot better, but had I learned earlier, I would’ve settled with my QC25s & saved $350 on the XM3s. They both sound great.
I have both. The Bose are more comfortable and the controls are better since the Bose still use buttons. The Sony however are not as comfortable and the controls are a tad annoying since they use a touch pad for playing and answering calls (pretty annoying in cold temperatures) Still covering the pad to allow sound in is a good feature. However sound wise the Sony wins hands down, perfect bass and listening to music is a delight. I found the noise cancelling far better on the Sony as well as the app.
Yeah, I have both.. Hate to say it, but he be right... Sony kicks on overall sound and the bass whoe! Blows the bose out of the competition.. Good review.
I would like to buy either of this but I have heard the sony are pretty badly built, specifically around the hinge whom apparently keep breaking over time. That's ain't something I can afford to have happened to such a expensive item.
I looked at a lot of these reviews just before I bought my Bose I was actually going to buy the Sony's. Then I tried a Sony's on to compare to the Bose. My preference Bose are just so much more comfortable. And they don't scratch your ear like Sony's
I live in hot climate. Which one do you think will make my ears less hot and sweaty for longer-period use? Debating buying one cause I can't get a proper answer to this.
@@meeravinod7165 Best way is to go to Best buy and try them on if you have the option. I found the Bose I can wear for long periods of time pretty easily but I haven't tried in hot climates so I don't know.
Good review. I differ on how comfortable the QC35-II is. The padding isn't that soft and the shape of the band does not conform to the shape of most heads. This puts all the pressure on an area about 1x2 inches on top, and after a while, that area starts to hurt. I also have the QC-2 from many years ago. THAT is a super-comfortable headphone. The bands matches the shape of the head, and the width of the band gracefully increases to 1.5 inches on top. The result is that pressure is distributed over a wide area. The QC-2 is also lighter in weight. The result is that they can be worn for many hours without being aware of any comfort issues.. So, the QC35-II are a big set down in comfort from the QC-2, though the NC is a huge step up.
Technically no, he is saying that they are a battle of the two top headphones out of all, but if he is talking about only the two headphones, then yes he is incorrect. But I think he is talking about best overall, just comparing the two best
A feature that Bose has that you didn’t touch on is “Music Share”. Bose allows two Bose QC35II’s to share the Bluetooth connection and listen to the same stream at the same time. This is a very cool feature for those that have friends who also have a newer Bose headset and want to listen to the same stream at the same time. My wife and I use this feature when we want to watch something on the iPad and not disturb anyone else. Thumbs up to the Bose!
I was so close to getting Sony but after wearing my friend’s for a while, it squeezed your head. As a student that will wear it for long time, comfort is more significant to me. So for buyers looking out there for comfort, I’d go for Bose
I have the Bose QC 35 II headphones. Incredible clear sound, great punchy bass, and best of all they make screaming kids on long haul flights go away :-)
Great review ... it is delightful to hear the good and bad (more the bad/concern) being discussed many reviewers do not do this or gloss over it ... really like the other reviews on the channel...
Awesome review! It's so in-depth and real-world testing. I initially ordered the Bose on the spot after a coworker recommendation, but started reading reviews immediately after work. So many reviews leaned toward the Sony's, so I ordered those as well. Won't cost me a dime as I plan to return one of them well within the return window. I do have to say that the Bose felt like an old pair of jeans the moment I tried them on. But we shall see once the Sony's arrive. I'm a bit of an audiophile, so I suspect the Sony's will be the keeper- but we'll see!
I used to have the Bose and then I got the Sony's for the sound quality and it's so much better. The only thing the Bose has that the Sony doesn't is multi pair which is a huge feature for me. I'm hoping Sony can add this in through software. The Bose needs a major refresh to compete
Excellent, thoughtful review. Thank you for providing such tremendous value. Glad I found this video. By far the most comprehensive and thorough review of 2 heavy hitters in this market sector
Time for a counter argument. 1. The sony's cant be used in the cold, the touch controls go wack. 2. The 2.5 mm is to reduce weight, and the bose are lighter. 3. The bose are just more comfortable, snd they prob will always be. 4. 2.5 to 3.5 are easy to find on amazon and such
@@okene yeah. I found that when it comes to comfort, bose never looses...but...over all, i have been using the matshall monitor ii because of the sound signature, and the way they fold up
I bought the Bose after trying the both at shop. Personally I like the classic design (and the silver color is cool for any gender). And the Bose is more comfortable in terms of sound quality (maybe base sound is slightly softer than the Sony?) and pressure of speaker cups, if you put the headphones for hours. Go to a store and try them on. If possible, look at mirror to see which one suits you better :) Enjoy !
