I’ve been to Edinburgh but not when the trams where but. But I do like how the trams operate in and around Edinburgh. Plus with extension to Newbridge North, Port of Leith, Saltire Square and Lower Granton which I think it should happen. And those Urbos 3 trams manufactured by CAF are very nice.

Fantastic videos mate, great commentary and very concise, keep it up! Wonder if you would consider doing a video looking at potential systems in cities that don't have them yet (e.g. Bristol/ Stoke)?

Yeah, I have actually had that idea floating around in the back of my head for a while. I've spent more time than I'm willing to admit pondering how a mass transit system in Leeds would work! But, before I make a video about it I want to make sure that I've got all the information I need to make a decent theoretical system rather than just a few lines on a map.

As an Edinburgh resident and Council Tax payer, the concept of the trams was quite divisive. For most of the 30 years I have lived here it has been council policy to gradually make it more hassle to have a private car in the city centre. This was done with bus lanes and then Controlled Parking Zones. The trams project was a big step using lots of city centre road space, however the project was hideously mismanaged - There is a c£10m public enquiry waiting to be published - and it was stopped at St Andrews Square. Over the last 4 years the mood has mellowed and they are within 10 months of completing the line down to Newhaven. Go live is Spring 2023. If you like infrastructure walks you can walk from Princes St down to Newhaven beside the tramline and back up to the centre via the cycleway using some of the long abandoned Edinburgh suburban British Railways network. Its a great 2-3 hour trip with plenty of pubs and cafes en route.

I'll have to try the walk sometime in the future, it's unfortunate how common it is for transport projects to be mismanaged. But at least in the end the people aren't as divided as they were I only hope that the new project managers learn from the past, instead of repeating it.

I have been looking into the Edinburgh tram system because I may need to use Edinburgh Airport as an alternative to Manchester. It's unfortunate they couldn't integrate the tram line into Edinburgh train station although in my case I can use Haymarket train station which is much closer to a tram stop.

My wife and I have having a mini break in Edinburgh early in 2023 (our first time there in 20 years) so we are trying to plan our journeys while we are there. We are travelling to Edinburgh by train, so we’ll be using public transport to get around. I see there is a £4.50 day ticket for the buses (central area only) which seems fine, but Is there another charge for taking the tram, or does this day ticket cover the trams too? thanks !

I think you are mis-representing the feelings of the vast majority of residents who see this as an absolute waste of our money. Vastly over time (the city has been in a mess since 2009 ! ) and hugely over budget. Another failure by CEC
