So interesting. Well explained. I would so love a set up like that. Blessings to you and yours.

In another life I had I lived in a solar and wind powered home and loved it. I had to look for ways to use the power now and then that was way cool. It works and it is really worth it for living. Thanks for reminding me. I got mine from Real Goods years ago in my other life. lol

Up front cost for NiFe is higher than for lead acid, but NiFe cost PER YEAR is lower than lead acid. Lead acid batteries will certainly need replacement, and that cost matters, too.

Just subscribed. Thank you for posting your video and your channel! My wife and I are doing a modified rammed earth home off grid in Northern Nevada. I would like to know more about the NiFe for our 48 volt off grid system. Fantastic!

Cool, hey dont vent the hho capture it. Just have sum rain capture to keep it topped off. If the cells have separate vent holes that would be best. That way you could compress the h2 and 02 into tanks for later use. So it can store galvanic and water dissassociation if charged quickly. Run water heaters,furnaces, stoves, and generators off the hho.

Great stuff....I love the use of a wind turbine and the solar together. I might have to do some based on how expensive it is to run the power company's power line in northern Idaho. I have looked at propane appliances as well to draw down the cost of electricity.

It's a pretty good complimentary setup! I think the gold standard on a system like this would be micro-hydro if you have the water available. We're working on getting our seasonal creek back to flowing year round in hopes of being able to add that resource into the mix. I think it would pay for itself the first year just in propane savings!!!

@@tradcathomestead8179 yea, that would be perfect and would make a great series, on how to have consistent and renewable/reuseable power...unfortunately, our land has no moving water or standing water. Our land is a bit north of you, between Athol and Spirit Lake. One thing I need to find out is how much propane costs up there. I know electricity is actually cheaper than down here but getting the line run any amount of distance is not cheap....and you are still subject to power outages. I have experienced days of power outages (after hurricanes) here in what many call a third world nation, Miami. Also, did some research into what a traditional Catholic Mass is and I have actually been to some and didn't realize it (although it was decades or scores ago). I was reading an article from the view of an ordained priest who has participated in both and he prefers the traditional Latin Mass. One thing I have been able to experience in Miami is a Maronite Mass (they are in communion with the Roman Catholic Church but perform Mass in Aramaic, the colloquial language of the Holy Land back in the day.) It is pretty cool to hear the prayers that the first Christians would have said in their native tongue. Looking forward to more videos!

That is an amazing set up for sure. Older is better. Isn't that the truth. Expense and weight seem very substantial though. Way to complicated for me lol. Kind of scary with that hydrogen. I love your videos. So interesting.

Weight is why Edison batteries are not ideal for say electric vehicle use but ideal for homestead use. Weight is not really a factor on stationary applications where longevity and capacity and cost are in fact all crucial factors

I think they are all made in china. Even ones sold by American companies are just rebranded. May as well just buy direct from China.

Can I ask how much did it cost to set all of this up? And then maintainance costs? Do you sell excess power to the grid to recoup costs? I love the possibilities and potential, but I'm not an electrical engineer. I'm not trying to electrocute myself or have a hindinberg situation in my house. How does one go about implementing this? Who do/should I hire?

Really interesting. Had no idea it is so complicated. Why did he have two kinds of batteries?
@tradcathomestead8179
@tradcathomestead8179 5 лет назад
We went with the two types of battery because the energy density and rate of discharge with the lead acid batteries works out a little better in our context, while the robustness and long term durability of the Nickel Iron battery helps to stabilise the system as a whole and adds to the longevity of the lead acid batteries. Short answer best of both worlds and a really nice synergy!!

The wind generator is about 100 ft from the house. It does make a little noise, especially in a strong wind. Vibrations aren't bad. I think with the smaller turbines you don't run into the environmental problems that seem to plague the giant ones.

1,400 amps each?
@wazza33racer
@wazza33racer 2 года назад
Ive had nickel iron batteries, 2 different brands from China and they are almost useless. They have just steadily declined over 4 years, and only hold 15% of their rated amp/hours. On inspection they have like black powder in the bottom of their containers. A bank of 20kw/hr goes through 80 liters of water a year.........which without a constant watering system is a pain to maintain. People promote the chinese versions as being like the USA Edison batteries, but they are nothing like them.

@PeterLawton
@PeterLawton 4 месяца назад
Did you condition them? That's mandatory for them to work.
@wazza33racer
@wazza33racer 4 месяца назад
@@PeterLawton yes they were conditioned. The problems stem from a couple of issues. Firstly, ignorant people were selling the Chinese made NiFe's, and not explaining the caveats. Firstly, these batteries are not like the original Edison batteries. They are all made in China,and use VARTA style construction for the pouches that contain the active materials. The active materials are in the form of a paste, not as in the original Edison batteries which used a granular material. The problem with the paste, is that it DISSOLVES into the electrolyte physically and causes the cell to short out, and it wont accept charge. You end with all this fine black sandy powder inside the case of the battery. If the cells are rinsed out of all the contaminated electrolyte, along with the black sand, they can be refilled and restored somewhat,but not to full working capability. The process of the paste dissolving is proportional to how much use and discharge they undergo. These are NOT proper,original, Edison batteries that had the robust reputation......they are a FRAUD.
