Edita was such a consummate artist. You see and feel how passionate and dedicated she was about opera, truly a queen of coloratura. May she forever rest in piece :)

Come on folks, stop this comparing everywhere on youtoube! Is this really neccesary to compare the best with the greatest and the most famous, and critize the best of the best? Makes no scence to me. Stop this and just listen to the music. I mean its okay to compare a little bit for his own, and like one more than the other, but here this hobby seems to be maniac by a lot of listeners. If you like others more its fine. You can express it in a more gentle way than harshly critizising the greatest singers of our time. Lets try it with..also listen to this or that..or theres a lot more ways to make it in a respectfull manner. Respect is the key!
Je suis d'accord avec ce que tu écris. La critique, il en faut, doit être constructive. C'est une très grande artiste qui aura chanté jusqu'à + de 70 ans. Et ici elle respecte parfaitement la ligne de chant belcantiste et elle est très brillante dans les coloraturs sans oublier le high E naturel.
This. I think it's ABSURD. And I say that as an opera singer and new mu. singer. We do not need to tear others down or fight with opinions..just enjoy the beauty of all of the greatest. We are given music to heal and transform, not to tear others apart...that's not what music is for. Music is the solution to the judgement in the world through vibration. Let it be...and just enjoy. Adoro "críticos de ópera" e de cantores! Não cantam nada, não estudam nada, e vivem para comparar está e aquela "técnica". Falar o que de um vídeo como este, de um cantor como a Gruberova? Nada, apenas respeitar MUITO. Pois quem é cantor mesmo sabe como é. Esses "críticos" só entristecem o meio musical. O mundo seria melhor sem vcs!
Concordo os críticos não passam de pessoas ignorantes que se acham donas do conhecimento e da verdade absoluta não influem nem contribuem pra nada no brilhantismo do músico sou cantor lírico e leio cada coisa horrenda que falam mais cabe a nós ignoramos eles só isso porque sabemos o peso de nosso esforço pra aprender técnicas novas pra educar cada vez mais nossa respiração e buscamos acima de tudo transmitir o sentimento e nossa alegria através da obra que executamos .

Quel ...langui...sospeso mette tutte le interpreti...in fila alle sue spalle...una visione così precisa dimostra di essere una Musicista che Trova in Bellini il suo autore ...nel quale sembra giocare anche un ruolo di novità nelle variazioni. Insomma inventa uno stile che le viene da un repertorio affrontato da far paura-Reverenza... signora Gruberova.
In her early career before she started scooping all the time, Ms Gruberova was absolutely stunning in her technical abilities as well as her interpretation and this is an EXCELLENT example of what she could do before she tired her voice out. Bravissima!
You know Archie, I think it is because as humans we are desperately trying to show that we clever, artistic and, at the end of the day, worthy of acceptance. Edita Gruberova was the Bel Canto soprano of my formative years and I will always be in awe of her artistry. I once heard a wonderful singer say that it is our personal mannerisms that make us individual - Ms Gruberova's mannerisms were very pronounced, but ultimately they teach us to revel in our individuality.
she is absolutely great and belongs to the greatest. but there are lot of other great coloratura sopranos. there is no one soprano ore the onliest soprano. we have so a lot of great singers. hear them all
I often get frightened when I listen to Gruberova. Sometimes she sounds a little bit prisoned by opera demands in her late period, and she can't reach some high notes properly. But this aria is perfectly sung by her. I'm pleasantly surprised. Brava!
A beautiful job! It's earlier, so there aren't all the scoopy attacks on high notes (that are flat for half the note.) But it's not Devia, who is supreme.
I don't know, heard her about 10 times till 65... She was never flat, never... Don't mind these videos... Live you cannot imagine how she sang and how the voice was big... But people will never understand...
Joan Sutherland at various stages in her career was better than this because she had a bigger voice and could handle the lower notes better. Still, this is a very very good version and it's sung very beautifully and with wonderful high notes.
Gruberova didn't have a small voice though. And she sang with expression. Sutherland was just a singing machine: big voice, great technique, boring as hell.

No chance! Sutherland is much more precise and relaxed, this performance slides all over the place, lacking Sutherland’s fluid precision. Lovely even tone throughout redeems it, however it does not match Sutherland or Anderson overall.
She had really exciting tops and I loved listening to her when she broke onto the scene back in the 80s, but her agility is really sloppy and there Sills and Sutherland WAY outsing her.
Joan Sutherland!!!! canta esta aria, dificilísima con una mejor respiración. La Gruberoba es una extraordinaria cantante, pero en esta aria prefiero a la Sutherland.
I'm not buying what she's selling. For a while, I thought she was lipsyncing to the most common recording Dame Joan did of this (the tempo is even the same). For a while she was pushing it and I was considering buying it, then she fell apart with a minute to go and failed miserably at the end. ALAS.
