I was very impressed. As I am Japanese, I watched this video while reading the English subtitles with my little knowledge. I may have only understood about half of the content, but I could feel how wonderful a singer she was. I have loved her since I was a little girl. I fell in love with opera after watching a videotape of a 1992 performance of La Traviata at a very young age and being drawn in by her powerful and beautiful voice and being mesmerized by her performance. I wish I had been born earlier so I could have heard her singing live. I am grateful that even now that she is gone, I can still learn about her accomplishments in this way.

I can't express fully how sad I was when hearing about Edita's leaving!!! She has been my most favorite coloratura soprano for a long long time. She remains unequalled in her exquisite singing voice and expression. We will always remember her. Rest in Peace, Edita!!!
She's been an eternal source of delightful inspiration. I've fallen in love with her voice and way of singing since I first heard her about 30 years ago. May God bless her life, her career ,and her lovely voice, keeping her able to sing and taking as to Heaven for years and years to come.

I have always admired Ms. Gruberova's singing (possessing her recordings and videos) and this you-tube really blew my mind - making a debut of a very difficult role at the age of 62!!! Stupendous!!

This lady was a force of nature! What great artist ... one of the last great Bel Canto sopranos. People criticize her, but she was just amazing! I have never seen a performance of hers on RU-vid, where the audience have not gone crazy!!! I wish I had had the chance to see her live..... Let’s hope her future masterclasses are recorded!
my dear friend, when I say, that live, it was even 10x better, it is no underestimation. She always makes me cry, because the level of artistry is just unimaginable. As written I was there, 17 years old, she always gave concerts in Bratislava her homecountry in Slovakia. Had the luck to hear hear many times. Last time was a concert edition of Norma where she was about 70... Still great!
She has a delightful personality as well as beautiful voice. I loved her Gretel with Brigitte Fassbaender: very funny with some fleeting tender moments. Wonderful actress. Emotionally true , convincing.
I am neither nationalistic nor overly patriotic, BUT... For a country like Slovakia, population 5 million, to produce Gruberová, Lucia Popp, Beňačková... to name just a few... That's pretty impressive!
I first learned abt Edita in my first year of college. That was more than a decade ago. I think that she's so magical, her ability, what she brings to every performance.
Bel canto at its best and she can still sing so beautifully in her 60's, and never suffered vocal nodes like a lot of modern singers, who abuse their voices.
An outstanding documentary! I am so grateful that I came upon it! I had no idea what an artist and a legend miss Gruberova was! Such a blessing and a gift to the world she is! Really inspiring to watch.

She just retired as a singer (actually due to Covid her last recital was on 20 Dec 2019; all 2020 concerts were cancelled). Hope she'll accept to give some masterclasses in the future.
An incredible artist with a stunning technique-- I have all of my female students listen to her and I'm happy to find this longer offering that shows her working and gives insight into the way she thinks and works. Brava!!
Absolutely Amazing !!! I have enjoyed this film so much !!! I didn't know that she was country girl from Czechoslovakia , a country dear to my heart . I have a preference for Belcanto singing .
My grandmother Blanche Powell and great aunt Greta Rausch emigrated from Vienna to the USA, and used to book all the acts at the Met in NYC and were in that crowd. As such, I was often surrounded by famous opera singers and ballet dancers growing up (e.g. Beverly Sills was my babysitter, and Laurence Melchior and Mikhail Baryshnikov were friends of the family). My cousin Lawrence Shadur also sang baritone in the Swiss national opera. I'm pretty sure they knew Edita. Unfortunately, all of them have passed away. Next week I have the opportunity to see Edita perform in Beijing. However, after watching this video, with such pure beauty emanating from her soul, reminding me of all those I've lost, and being moved by the music, I'm worried that I might break down in tears during the show and embarrass my girlfriend.
Lucky you! Enjoy the concert in Beijing and realise it is one of her last performances (she just stepped down from the opera stage 27 March 2018 and would continue aria concerts and lieder recitals but there is nothing planned/known after December this year).

I really love this film. I saw her on stage in Munich and was blown away by her charismatic appearance and voice. An incredible woman.

Madam Gruberova is unique as are the other great ladies of opera. I have not heard anyone else do the coloratura marvels M Gruberova did. That's why she was and will be L'Unica.
I will never know if this will ever will get through to Edita, but I have admired her for a long. long time. And I am proud to be able to say that I have seen her many years ago in Vienna Opera House as Koenigin der Nacht (Mozart's Magic Flute}
Eine große Sopranistin hat uns verlassen. Ich habe Edita Gruberová einmal in Salzburg gehört bei einem Liederabend. Welch ein Erlebnis! Der Applaus nahm kein Ende - zurecht bei dieser Stimme mit hervorragenden Koloraturen. R.I.P liebe Edita Sie bleiben unvergessen!
