Edith Bunker Says Goodbye to Louise Jefferson

This has always been one of my favorite scenes from "All in the Family" because it ignores all the racial turmoil that was in the show and in America at the time, showing us the racial harmony on the other side by making race irrelevant in the friendship between the two characters. This is from the episode "The Jeffersons Move Up," which was posted by Belgusto1, and I think this scene is a great way to remember the actress Jean Stapleton (as well as Isabel Sanford) after her death two days ago.
For fans of the show or the actress, you may be interested in the little tribute I posted to my blog: modernmigraines.wordpress.com/...

Edith and Louise were characters who really embodied Martin Luther King Jr's philosophy, of judging people by the content of their character, and never the colour of their skin.

Amen to that! I love that they were close friends if not best friends at a time there was still some level of racial tension between people passed a certain age. Hopefully those born in the 2000s and 2010s will be the ones who put an end to it. Sadly, Trump wants to intensify it and we need modern Kings like no one's bees!

@@holyexperience1976 What's sad is that there are people who still believe every slanderous word that every liberal in the media, on a morning talk show, on a late night monologue, in a stupid pop song says, and has been saying about Trump. Just go ahead and add Republicans and conservatives in general to that list. Just how specifically has Trump tried to intensify racism? Give me one actual example? Black and Hispanic Americans have thrived under Trump's administration more so than any other time in our history. That's a fact. Look it up. Meanwhile, under the Obama catastrophe, minority unemployment was at an all time high, more foods tamps were dished out than ever before, crime rose to new heights. Obama drew lines between every one based on race, sexual orientation, religion. Hell. they even made up new genders just to divide us further. Clinton and Biden praised and worked side by side with Robert Byrd, a Grand Dragon of the KKK! The left never stops obsessing about race. It's the Democrat party who instituted Jim Crow laws, who originally voted against civil rights laws, who supported slavery. The Democrats spawned the disgusting KKK. Woodrow Wilson and Margaret Sanger of Planned Parenthood were elitist, racist, who viewed negros, Jews, and Hispanics as "undesirables". The Democrat party treats all minorities as helpless, feckless, incapable victims who can't trod through their meaningless life without the helping hand of the wise and all powerful government, but here we are, with Americans still insisting, somehow, that Trump is a racist. Please. Elaborate. Give me some actual examples of Trump signing one piece of legislation that actually hurt minorities, like The Democrats have always done, even now in the modern era where they still exploit minorities for votes, and keep them in the ghettos, completely dependent and in check.

Archie had to deal with a lot of bigoted and misinformed people as a youngster, which is why he had so many colorful things to say, pardon the pun, but at the end of the day he was ALWAYS there to help anybody in need, including Meathead when he needed that emergency operation, looking after his daughter and her husband with no money given to him, helped Lionel out AND Louise, extending to George...

How can you not like and admire Edith Bunker. She was a real "Pip" R.I.P, Jean Stapleton and lsabel Stanford. That last little expression as Edith leaves for the last time is a masterful display of natural acting without saying a word like she subconsciously wonder did she say the right words in this moment, after being ridiculed so long by Archie it was habitual reaction.

What was interesting about this moment was the implicit understanding that their paths would likely never cross again going forward. They were good neighbors to one another but there was still that boundary where 1) They would not sit at the same dinner table together, 2) the socio-economics were different between the families, 3) politics was still the third-rail (do not discuss). While Edith and Louise felt close, they could never break down the boundaries that prevented their families from mixing more freely.

She also needed to borrow a bucket , to clean stuff ..... Best friends ever since that moment ( not Archie though , he disliked the Jeffersons from the start ! ) ... Edith embraced her friendship with Irene , just the same .... Archie didn't care for her presence either ..... eventhough she was white . Just too liberated for him and he was scared of it rubbing of on Edith ( which it did 😂😂👍👍👍) ..... ❤❤❤
