Nailed it. AI cannot write anything decent with just a prompt. It is a powerful tool though. It’s basically like having a writing assistant at your beck and call.
I'm currently trying it for fiction. It really helps with prose. I did create the first draft of an 11 thousand word novellet. I know it needs work, but it is a first draft. I have a beginning, middle and a ending. That's a huge start
@@DaleLRoberts My biggest hurdle when I finally get something close to being published will be the cost for editing. I understand that it's extremely expensive.
@@DaleLRoberts My mistake when I did the novellet was after I created it, I realized that I didn't want to use it for the first installment of my series. I immediately knew that this was a later story for the series. So I still have time to rework and tweak this particular story. LOL
I did so with GPT 3.5 and Claude 2.0. Yes, it can be done. Especially presently with Claude 3.5. I recorded the entire audiobook and posted it on my channel.
I do text to speech all the time. Being autistic its not always easy for my sentences to flow. If i have it read back I can then hear where it needs work. When you said the process for AI its what i do with everything. This video helps me feel more secure about my process. Thanks Dale!
Great video, Dale. I've always believed AI to be a valuable tool. So many seem to talk trash about it, but like you mentioned, it's there to assist, not take over. I'm currently working on a novella using a program called novelcrafter, not sure if you've heard of that. It's one of Jason Hamilton's recommended programs which utilises AI. Yes, AI can sound a little cheesy, but human intervention is crucial to make it sound natural. P.S, my partner and I use chatgpt, and we jokingly say to each other that we always thank the AI after using it, so that when there is a "takeover", we'll be safe from the purge, lol 🤣
That’s exactly how to make it work! I'd been playing with ChatGPT like that too. Late at night when I don't feel like working or doing anything else, I just pop it open and play around with it. Sometimes I ask for a small fix, then it scraps everything it did before and gives me a new story altogether. haha I'm like, "Why did you throw the entire thing out when I just wanted you to fix that one paragraph?!" haha
Thank you so much, Dale. Hats off to you for hiring an editor and showing you're so customer-oriented. Agree 100% with your and her views on AI. I'm currently writing my first AI- generated book, and it constantly needs A LOT OF polishing, and tweaking, and tightening. Here's what I've learned though: Claude tends to write slightly more natural-sounding prose than Gpt
I gotta give Claude a look. I'd recently chatted with the ladies at the Brave New World podcast and one of the hosts swears by Claude. Thanks so much for watching the early release and for being a channel member for the past six months. That means the world to me.
Then, don't use it. Not everything I share on this channel is going to be a great fit for everyone. I never want you to feel like you have to do everything and use every tool I share here. Go with what resonates most with you; I won't think any less of you.
Yes, it can provided you give it direction, so really not generative but more like assisted. Do not let it write it without instruction unless you want it to go off on a tangent, lol.
No doubt! By the way, Theresa, you officially have a badge for Top Commenter on this channel. That means I've hearted the heck out of your comments. Your support means the world to me; thanks so much for being a top commenter.
Yeah, I've spent less and less time on Facebook these days. Between RU-vid and my Discord community, I have everything I need with a supportive community of like-minded authors and self-publishers. Life's too short to deal with internet drama and BS.
@@DaleLRoberts Yea I am trying one more thing on Facebook before I limit my time. I am creating my own fiction author group without all the headaches from the "marketers, etc"
It’s been years since I hired out, so I don’t know if what I paid will accurately reflect how much it costs now. Browse Dibbly’s marketplace and you should get an answer there.
