I directed this play during the final quarter of my Highschool Senior year in 1997. This brings back some great memories. Rehearsal Mon. Tues. Wed. and we went live every Thurs. and Fri. night, 6:OO to 8:3O p.m. for 3 weeks. We made a pretty penny for the School's Theater Arts Dept. from Ticket sales. It was just an amazing way to say goodbye as a Senior and compelled me to skip College and instead, create and own a Theater Lighting buisness which made me a Millionaire by the time I turned 23 years old. Had I never shown an interest in Directing this play, I wouldn't have been exposed to stage lighting, and I would have never thought to start my lightning buisness. It's AMAZING how one simple choice can create a BEAUTIFUL and profitable future.
Last year, my english teacher showed us this exact recording, and while i never enjoyed answering the questions about the video, this play always pops up in my memory. The stage manager has such a calm voice, and i don't think the video would've had such an impacting effect without her.
I’m going to be playing Simon Stimson in an upcoming production of Our Town, and so I just so happened to find this, and I have to say that I teared up at the moon-watching scene, whilst the second and third acts had me bawling my eyes out. This was magnificent in so many ways, these actors are fantastic and are able to portray true emotion in this show. Props to the Stage Manager for memorizing that three-and-a-half long introduction to act three.
Live performances are nowhere as effective without Aaron Copland's music. Too bad that the copyright requires outrageous fees for the use of the music.
I don't really see the need for the ladders if the kids aren't going to use them for the moon watching and romantic scenes. They were kind of a distraction. Having said that, this was an amazing production. I loved the use of a female stage maanger, and the set was gorgeous. Well done!
