got lots of respect for EDM to make this a tougher series than some anti-oilers folks will think. the penalty call was correct, anyway you choose to argue it. EDM had an ELITE and i mean that in "caps" bcuz they wiped out 5 DAL PP's. skinner in net held his ground. i have been critical about his ability to be that hasek guy, but tonight he gave EDM hope and time to get the job done. anyhow, congrats and enjoy the win. EDM was the better team for most of regulation, and again, they made it happen. DAL has to play a lot better or else they are going to be in hot water after the end of saturday nite. this series is giving me intense 1990's feelings. looking forward to saturday nite. cheers 🍻
It was a penalty but if the refs were doing their job they would’ve also called Duchene for holding McDavids stick. That is another biased decision that gave the Stars 4 minutes instead of 2. It’s time for people to be objective.
@@donaldedison3593 This has been around for decades actually. Essentially, the penalty was called by the Linesman who lacks the ability to truly call a penalty so that's why it's reviewed. The reviewing it to then call it is new but decades ago Linesman could call a penalty by discussing it with the ref after the play.
If Oilers lose the series it will be because they continue to infict wounds upon themselves with terrible mistakes and unforced errors, and not getting the calls by the refs....Atleast there was two they missed, but they call one they never saw...🙄....Duschene was also hanging on to Connors stick too....he shouldve got 2 mins.
@@user-bi6yf4hv9g i'm more pissed off with DAL's horrible coverage on both EDM regulation goals. plus going 0-5 on the PP. oilers have elite special teams. while they didn't score on the pp on game 1, we all know the oilers powerplay capability is a ticking time bomb, waiting to go off.
The Oilers played a great road game. That being said, their ability to crap their pants after the halfway point of every game is so procedural, you’d swear they practice it. At least 3x between last round and tonight they have had a 2 goal lead, sat on it, have a terrible giveaway in front of their own net, then sit on the 1 goal lead until it gets tied somewhere between 5-8mins left in the 3rd. They recovered tonight and played well enough to deserve to win but it’s just amazing how much they get in their own way. No team has beat them as much, or as badly as they’ve beat themselves this playoffs.
and like 90% of the other games that have happened in other rounds for the other matches. Go watch some other teams play. It's playoffs. Everyones gonna score. Everyones gonna make a mistake, everyones gonna make a crazy push in the last 5-10 mins and usually score. It's never gonna be a cakewalk.
There would be no nhl without American teams. Canadian economy couldn’t build a league that’s half of the nhl, just look at the cfl. A Canadian league would be absolute garbage
How about not having a draft and teams had first dibs on local players from the province or state? I think that would create more excitement, cheering on the local boys.
The Oilers are winning because they believe, they believe they can win, confidence, in spite of Skinner. Eck has way stepped up his game because of this confidence. They believe in their coach, McDavid is reaching for more, Drai is playing defense like never before. This team believes.
Oilers knock down the best Pacific team in game 7, now they are facing the best of the best western team, Oilers has confidence to beat down the Dallas. Go Oilers go.
Refs were garbage but the Oil PK is as lethal as their PP. Skinner showed up many of us. Super dumb plays keep getting the opposition back into these games, Oilers must be the worst in the league for that for some time now.
This was the most “managed” game I’ve seen in a long time. It wasn’t just the missed called on the Stars either. There were multiple icings incorrectly called, all of which benefited Dallas. Then you had the faceoffs. That’s the most I’ve seen Drai and McDavid being tossed from the draw, maybe ever. Then if the Oilers won a draw to clean the refs would just whistle it dead and take the F/O again. The cherry on top was Sutherland waiving the game winner off right away, with it having clearly gone in and no discernible goalie interference. The good news, though? Despite the game being called so clearly in favour of Dallas, the Oilers still battled through for the win! Very solid character win from the Blue and Orange.
Sutherland wasn't waving off the goal he was waving off a possible Hyman high stick as the puck came around the boards to Bouchard. That was what was being reviewed after the game. The rest spot on about the officials.
Duchene leaned over hard. It wasn't a high stick. Well below McDavid's shoulder height where contact was made. Terrible call. It's good it didn't cost the Oilers.
The Oilers defend best when they attack- attack on the defense, attack in the neutral zone, attack in the offensive zone. Last night was the best I have seen them with their angles of attack in all zones
Offence is their strength and they know it, everyone knows it. It’s hard to defend against it, especially when Edmonton constantly has you hemmed up in your own zone.
No use complaining about it. Just deal with it like the Oilers did. Just concentrate on winning the game that's the best way to stick it to them. Btw enjoy the win, especially since it's a bit sweeter when you overcome everything. Imo.
@@albertapatriot3877 I realize that and I agree with the sentiments yet like I said it doesn't help. Just grin & bear it and live it up when they over come it ALL.
@jonben, I agree but if one doesn’t call things out than it goes unnoticed and gets worse. I always call out wrongs or they become bigger problems. You know sort of like our corrupt governments. If everyone goes with status quo and never says the truth than everyone ends up living in a utopian nightmare like we are now . I’ll call out anything and speak the truth even at my own peril otherwise I be just like all the other useless sheeple .
You can see the sheer determination on the faces of McDavid and Draisaitl. To be fair, Hyman, Nugent-Hopkins, Ekholm, and Bouchard have all played very well. Skinner is decent most of the time, and when he isn’t, Pickard is up to the task. They also have excellent coaching all the way around.
Great game, Canadian senior hoping Conner drinks from the Stanley cup at his wedding this year!! He is the best, but oilers players are showing up, please bring thecup back to Canada👍🇨🇦
Sucks when fans who come for the playoff watches try to analyze and pick apart the oilers goaltending, their defence, "only mcdavid and draisatl" etc. Anyone who is a real oilers fan knows these boys have put in the most effort of almost all teams.. last in regular season to start, coaching changes, locked them down , pulled away with a 16 game win streak.. these guys are here for the long run
Laughing so hard at Bettman right now 😅 he tried so hard to screw the oilers over! I’ve never seen a penalty get reviewed like that after it wasn’t even called on the ice
You mean Ron McLean talking about inclusion, while Kelly Hrudey talks about how great the Flames and Kings are and Kevin Bieksa acts like he’s God’s gift to the NHL?
They didn't give two shits about the 5 second hook lol. McDavid was shaking his stick away These Refs were atrocious. Waste of skin. Hopefully they change every game
@@thomasmuller546no way the Stars played over 4 periods of hockey and only took 1 minor for too many men. The refs put away their whistles but only for the Stars benefit
@@thomasmuller546 Its true - you think the Stars played 4 period of hockey without committing one infraction? Officials do let a lot go on both sides granted, but no way no how they played a 'clean' game. Officials usually call a couple on the other team. That hold on McDavid off the faceoff to start OT - I've seen a lot less called on the Oilers in this years playoffs. Should of been a 2 minute penalty to Duchene as well as the 4 minute to McD
@@thomasmuller546 btw- the Holloway penalty - do you know why he hooked Benn? Because the Dallas dman was interfering with him. Watch that replay and tell me that was the 'right' call. Don't tell me the official saw the hook but didn't see the interference. He just chose not to call the interference. I bet if the situation was reversed, the Oiler dman would've been called for the interference and the Dallas forward would of gotten away with the hook. But we're used to that - been like that for 30 years when a Canadian team is playing a US based team, especially in the later rounds (if a team gets that far)
Pretty clear from the bs officiating that they don't want a Canadian team in the finals. How many pp did OIlers get v Dallas? Ridiculous. And the four-minute minor in OT was a bit sus - follow-through isn't usually called, is it? And oh, the Oilers’ best player. How convenient. He had the last laugh, though. Poetic justice.
Dallas plays at a terrifying pace. If they can keep this up all series we might be fucked just from a stamina standpoint. Especially since they had that week off. God damn
I mean the main reason Dallas lost in ot is because they ran out of gas before the oilers tbh. The pile up was pure exhaustion setting in and there was no one to cover that mistake because benn dragged his feet getting back to his end.
TERRIBLE…The Refs did a good job and tried hard, ONLY calling lots of penalties to the Oilers Team? Even those 4 minutes major penalty, that Dallas player supposed to be had a holding penalty to McDavid? But, instead the Referee made McDavid got 4 minutes for high stick???! That’s insane! NOW this is BIG KARMA to the Referees who bets BIG BUCKS and likes that Dallas Stars to win the game 1, tsk! BUT, THAT DOESN’T HAPPEN to the OILERS. They’re SMART and TALENTED Team. OILERS in 5 👍💪💪🏆🏆🏆
Its funny before OT I already think about it. I knew they will give dallas a last minute PP.. my gut says it will come and it did. I got scared ngl. But Oil PK was Fantastic. Shame on the refs. Its so obvious they favor Dallas.. funny i never doubted my instinct. And I am proud of our team. Go Oilers Go!!🎉
I noticed, as well, but have you seen what NHL Champs used to look like? It is a rough game, the wear and tear will only get worse for them all. What is the lost teeth count for the 2024 playoffs?
Also, Duchene deserved a hooking penalty AND an embellishment penalty on that play... how far was he sliding around on the ice while selling the high-stick?
Skinner was superb. But he came in as a huge question mark, condsidered by most as the biggest liability on the team. And that's the problem....he's inconsistent from game to game, unreliable, unpredictable. And you just can't win the Stanley cup with shaky goaltending.
Yeah im sure he’d just love to leave a team that’s been to the conf final 2 out of the last 3 years for a team in the most toxic market and can’t get out of the first round
Still bitter after ALL these years? Let it go man & move on. No wonder Toronto has a reputation of being one of the toughest markets to play in. Btw how is Leaf nation feeling about & treating their other home grown players # 16 & # 91 ? 😢
Unless these hi sticks need stitches, it should never be a double minor. There was no intent. If it appears there was intent, I would agree to a double. Cry baby penalties like this are terrible for the NHL.
If there was obvious intent on a high stick it would be a 5 minute major and possibly a game misconduct or worse, imo. I kind of agree with you though that just because blood is drawn doesn't mean it should be a double minor. I remember in the past when players would bite their tongue to draw blood just to get a 4 minute in the playoffs. I think it's a silly threshold.
