With due respect to the professors on this program, one of the problem Nigeria has with its electoral system is that they believe professor have to be tied to the running INEC, election administration on elections day even when these professors in lecturers in areas that are not associated with politics or elections management. At the end when they do not perform well they get insulted by even some of their students current and in the past. I think professors in Nigeria should stay away from conducting elections or accepting offers as INEC Chairperson. Every dick and harry insults the INEC Chairmen and they are never thought of not being partial. It should not be that way. History has not produced any INEC chairperson that has not been eaten raw in Nigeria. There professions in the country that are most likely to be respected because of their knowledge or experience in election matters besides the university professor. This criticism is to the advantage of professors who get insulted during every elections in Nigeria, some end up in jail for errors or pronouncement made by the during election. I partially agree with the guest who thinks vote buying cannot be stopped in Nigeria because politicians have perfected the process that they can go to the electorate homes to buy votes but buying votes at the polling stations can be stopped if those in violation face fines and jail term. The political the individual is affiliated with must be heavily fine also. The reason why election is do and die in Nigeria is because most politician use their personal resources to establish candidacy and also in most cases run the campaign. If politicians were struggling to raise funds from the general publics and corporations elections will not be matter of do and die. Elections are coming up in the United States in November and candidates running for offices up to the Presidency have been raising money since two or three years even before the primaries are her. If Nigerian politicians rely on citizens to raise funds for their election process not only that they will feel obligated to be servants of the people, there will be humbleness which does not exist among Nigerian politicians. Nigeria is hundreds of year behind time when it comes to election matter. Can you imagine if provision like mail in voting and absentees voting provision was included in the countries electoral act? Supervised elections do no work with thinking of fraud and rigging how much when the process is based on personal trust and discipline. The day Nigerians will get to the stage to offer praise for the conduct of any election that will be the day. It has never happen and it will never happened. Despite the gaps in the results of the three major parties in the election, there is a unified position by the PDP and LP against the winning party, a potential repeat of the 2023 presidential election where political parties only credit INEC in the polling stations where they meet. Polling stations where they do not win is always rigged.
