The mark VIII Supermarine Spitfire is not as well known as some of the other, more famous variants of the aircraft. Despite being considered a developmental leap in the evolution of the Spitfire, it did not see as much service compared to other, more easier to construct variants.
Join me in this video as I build and review the Eduard profipack Supermarine Spitfire Mk. VIII plastic model kit in 1/72 scale, a model that may well be my best build yet!
Special thanks to Ed from ‪@EdNashsMilitaryMatters‬ for collaborating with me on this particular project, providing the history segment. Connect with Ed and see more of his awesome military history videos on his channel here:

i need to buy some - it's not something I use on a daily basis (i have other oral products) Edit: I pinned this comment because I had a couple of comments already saying "use a toothpick" 1. yes, i know toothpicks work well 2. Just a tip. If you want to gain even more realistic chipping effect you Can airbrush the areas you want to chip with a metallic colour. Then you airbrush some chipping solution forexample vallejo chipping medium, and then paint the Camo scheme over it. When you want to apply the chipping you just take a wet toothpick and scratch the areas. Nice video 👍

yes, ive seen that method and it looks really cool, something to look at investing in and trying out in the future
@Simon_Nonymous

This is the first video of yours that I have watched, and I am very impressed. First, I didn't realize at first that this was a 1/72nd scale model. The detail and quality of the build is outstanding for such a small scale. Second, the detail of your build description, videography, etc. is also outstanding. I've got the airfix 1/24 spitfire to build, it looks ok but is an old tooling so not the best fit or detail. Their 1/48 offerings are more recently tooled and have reasonable detail, but again, i'm sure that anything in the 1/48 scale range from eduard will be considerably better detailed

Very nice build, you also mensioned that you like building more rare/forgotten planes. Therefore I made a small list of the rarest planes I know of. Dh 90 dragonfly (trp3) only one swedish one was made but good luck finding a kit for that. Saab 210 lilldraken also only 1 was made because it was a prototype. Saab 201/202, a saab safir with different wings for testning. Only one was made. FFVS J22, 198 were made but most people still have never heard of them (except for warthunder players.) Saab 18, 245 were made but they seem to not be as well documented as most aircraft and there is only one survining example and that one was pulled from the bottom of a lake. P1/S1a sparmamn also known as sparmannjagaren, 11 were made.

Nice work Matt! Looks nice and neat! Well done! As for Eduard, every new kit is great as this one, but watch out for older Eduard kits, as they are short run, thus not easy to build (sometimes it's closer to a catastrophe). In 1:72 scale you can't see lot of details, so I warmly suggest, if you want to use photo etch details, to try some 1:48 kits. It is more rewarding when you can see actual extra details. They offer some good range of Bf-109 models and Mig-21s in that scale. Also Eduard 1:48 Hellcsts, and Spitfires are excellent! It is the same thing as this Spit, but bigger.... Trust me, you won't be disappointed! Bf-109E kit in 1:48 even offers you an excellent representation of DB601 engine to be seen opened! The price is not significantly bigger then 1:72 scale!

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what is "Photo Etch"?
@ModelMinutes
@ModelMinutes 3 года назад
It's metal (usually brass) sheets which have been exposed to UV light in specific ways (using various chemicals) then dipped in acid. The acid etches (or eats away) the areas that were exposed to light whilst leaving the protected areas intact. This method of making components is great for scale modellers as it allows really finely detailed parts to be created. If you look at my unboxing video on this model you will see a close up of the photo etch parts

Eduard's Spits are the best from the best. Sure, we have some other great kits on the market: Tamiya or Airfix Mk I & V, Kovozavody's kits are nice too, but they are a short run releases, so you expect some issues on assembly. Sword's XIVs are impressive too, but none of them can match the amazing engineering of Eduard kits with all the riveting

I have to agree with your statement Matt this is your best work yet! The detail on Eduard kits is always stunning, but I was shocked to see pop rivet detail on a 1/72 scale engine cowling. That alone makes this a must have. Also I loved the collaboration with Ed Nash's Military Matters. I have seen a few of his videos & was shock to see him appear in your video! Hope he will get a bit more traction from your viewers. If anyone enjoyed his segment, or is a fan of channels like Mark Felton Productions; please subscribe to his channel. When it comes to historical RU-vid channels, RU-vid likes to well mess around with their reach in the algorithm. Anyway great video Matt!

Your builds keep looking better, maybe for the next one, a little more attention to the seams? They seem pretty rough in most builds. Keep up the great vids though :)

@@ModelMinutes I geuss thats true, even so, seams are the most difficult part for me aswell. But seeing as your audiance is mostly purely digital, and seeing the model through close up photography almost exclusively, it might be good to cater the build towards that.
