i’m so happy cus it’s so great and the representation is just brilliant but i’m also so sad cus it was so good i got way to invested and now i’m crying
Which is probably pretty dang far. It’s always the nice polite type ones you have to watch out for when they get truly upset. It takes a while, but then… 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
@Tara Allen thank you so much for this comment i was confused for days because i have seen a lot of spoilers for the show before watching it and i didnt really mijd BUT since i saw a scene where Ed didnt have his beard i sort of assumed Stede and Ed had history together before stede was a pirate and thats why Ed wanted Izzy to bring him Stede But that's obviously not the case now that i rewatch it thank you
i watched ep 9 and thought 'oh no it cant end here..' watched ep 10 and thought 'oh nevermind it wont end there after a-' and then had my hopes and dreams and heart crushed simultaneously
Omg yes! I was so happy after episode 9, then I watched episode 10 and here I am at 2:30 in the morning still awake watching videos of them falling in love 🥺
bro the fact that taika can literally get his eyes to be heart shaped. how. how does he do that how does he make them look like that i’m losing my MIND
RIGHT? Just look at his expression on 2:54 , absolutely genuine expression of surprise, proudness, happiness and even relieve. Taika eyes literally screams “wow” in italics.
I love how much significance the line 'I suppose I do work for Blackbeard' has now that we now how disconnected Ed feels from the identity of Blackbeard. It's like assuming the mask of Blackbeard is a chore for him. Stede is the only person with which he can just be Ed
Yes, I thought that too! Blackbeard is the mythical monster people are scared of; Edward is the real person Stede helps bring out. It's why Ed calls himself the Kraken.
I just think Rhys NAILED Stede. He was funny, vulnerable, charming, stupid at times. He portrayed each and every emotion perfectly and Taika and him both aced the relationship
I know a lot of people love the foot touching scene, or when Stede puts the red fabric in Ed's pocket (and don't get me wrong, I absolutely love those scenes), but I think my favorite scene of all time is when Ed is in the bathtub, and Stede puts his hand near Ed's face, and Ed just instinctively lays his head on it. It just genuinely is such a sweet moment
My favourite scene is when Stede says to Ed: 'You wear fine things well'. The emotions and all the tension there made my breath catch. It is such a perfect moment. Especially because Ed starts to move towards Stede as if to kiss him, though he stops himself at the last moment. Just beautiful.
his whole "oaahhh" at 3:03 when Stede has "tricked" him into being at his restaurant, i just love it, it makes me laugh every time, and that whole scene is just so endearing
@@Iamjustherek really ?! that wouldn't surprise me at all, I absolutely love it, it feels very spontaneous doesn't it, like the way they crosstalk a bit ? Ugh perfection 🥰
Yeah, it was completely improvised! And both Rhys and Taika said it was one of their favourite scenes because they were just riffing with each other. I love their dynamic so much ☺
I must be exaggerating but I'm so happy a series like this exists. A complex queer MAIN couple being treated normally, allowed to exist and have comedy and drama It just doesn't happen that often
Even the way Mary reacted to Stede saying "his name is Ed" by smiling and hugging him was so damn wholesome. I'm absolutely in love with how beautifully written this story is
And I love that this is a story revolving around queer relationships that not once ever gives space to homophobia/coming out as a major plot line! Like those do belong in certain stories, cause they're important struggles, but we also deserves shows where the gays and theys just get to be happy!
Something I’ve noticed is the tiny detail about Ed being comfortable with physical contact with other people and Stede. Around other people the only physical contact with them is violence or joking hyper masculine aggression. In the Calico Jack episode there’s a bit where he tries to put his hand on Jack’s shoulder but decides not to - his whole life his main source of physical contact would be violence. At the party he gets angry when the woman tried to touch his beard, showing he doesn’t like being touched without notice and assumes it’s violent straight away. But around Stede, he’ll touch him on the shoulder, support him when he’s injured even let him touch his beard - slowly becoming comfortable with touching someone for fondness rather than violence. But the first thing he does when Stede’s gone? Throws a guy overboard and cuts off another man’s toe. Reverting back to his ‘comfort’ zone of violence and aggression. God i love the small details in this show
He is literally ALWAYS draping himself on Stede. Almost every scene where Stede is included, he HAS to be super close to him compared to others. The sword stabbing scene actually solidifies this further, even in violence, with Stede there it's a tender and close moment when he's literally bleeding out and he lets Stede hold him. This man, *_he gay._* 🤨📸 🏳️🌈✨️
That little "mhm" from Stede (at 6:42) after the kiss and the look on his face, as he's ready to take this chance at love, to run away once again, but this time not because he's discontent and chasing a dream and leaving his family behind, but leaving *with* Ed and a future he probably never thought he'd get to have because he's in love now and it's mutual and this kiss was unlike anything he's ever gotten to experience
See I always veiwed that as him being unsure, but maybe you are right! I was sure that he was going to leave the moment I saw that because he looked unsure to me, but I think It could go either way, this interpretation makes me feel a bit better
**Some stupid idiot in silk florals turns up out of absolutely no where, found by the most blood-thirsty pirate on the seas** Ed:.... Ed: Can we keep him? Izzy: ... Edward no. Ed: .... Ed: I'm keeping him.
I’ve seen Taika Waititi in many things, but the acting he did in this show was phenomenal. The complexity and range of emotions he showed for Ed was just incredible.
Absolutely agree. Obviously, I knew he was a great actor but I only saw him in comedic scenes, playing characters that were very one-sided. He has blown me away with the sheer range of emotions I have seen from him in this show. Amazingly talented.
This is the first time I’ve watched something that had Taika acting in it since the What We Do in the Shadows movie, and he is brilliant! He can be hilarious, intimidating, soft, just everything. I especially love the acting he does with his eyes in this show. He can give someone a look that says “I will stab you 37 times in the pancreas if you so much as cough in my direction” to “I’ve never been so happy in my entire life, please don’t leave my side, ever” multiple times in just one episode, and it still gets me every time. I really gotta check out more of his acting credits cuz his performances make me happier than Stede makes Ed.
You can see that perfectly in Jojo rabbit too, in the way his Hitler slips from goofy silly imaginary friend to assertive and scary to the 3nd. He has very kind, pretty eyes but can pull off an intimidating look if needed
The soft smile he has just for Stede. I melted when he mischievously smirked over his shoulder at him during the closet scene when he admitted he was Blackbeard. He's so head over heels for him, looks at him with literal heart eyes, obviously finds him absolutely adorable. He is so amazed and fascinated by him and his eyes twinkle with stars at the sight of him. Like wtf, can you be any more in love with someone???? He gets so excited when Stede says yes and kisses him back and omg he's so cute, I'm gonna cry. You wouldn't think he's a cruel murderer cause he's so sweet when he's with Stede. Man, I love this trope
@@johnwerner69 I agree and I think it’s because at the time when he decided to become the Kraken again, he knew no one on board knew about the secret wardrobe except for him. So he threw out “everything” of Stede that would convince his crew that he has now fully embraced his role as Blackbeard, while keeping the painting and the secret wardrobe for Ed 😭💔
I like to think - this is just my little hc - that at some point Stede is just gonna be taken prisoner by the Revenge, hood over his head so they don't know who he is at first, and when Ed pulls it off, Stede just smiles cheekily and says, 'I believe you're on my ship.'
I’m actually not sure they will meet each other with love and joy…I mean Ed is really heartbroken and traumatized. And he most likely will bear a great grudge against Stede for leaving him. so I'm not sure if he'll just smile and they'll be fine. Most likely, Ed will try to stay away from Stede to protect himself, because he does not want to be hurt like this again
i watched this show all in one night and i was so broken after i've been a shell of a human being ever since. its just so surreal to see characters able to be themselves with zero mention of homphobia and basically an absence of stereotypes. i love the refreshing take on this sort of story its just so unique and the actors are all amazing, plus taika is just a fucking amazing actor and director ❤ manifesting a season 2 ASAP!!
@@cockycookie1 Literally gonna to cry because homophobia will NEVER be abolished. No matter what we do, it will still exist, it will still linger and people will still get hurt by it. It's a sad reality.
Yeah, I think that's what's really interesting. S1 is very focused on Ed's trauma, and Stede's response to it. And even tho we as an audience are familiar w Stede's past, Ed isn't - Stede never got to open up about it bc he's always focused on being their for everyone else - so as far as Ed is concerned, this was a purely selfish act and not an irrational response to his own trauma. Stede is still wrong, but he didn't mean to hurt Ed and I'm curious how this is going to be played out in s2.
I just love the small personality swap at 2:02 between Stede and Ed. Stede is just there looking at the chaos he has just caused and Ed looking around in shock like "Wtf Stede"
yeah in all the gifs and videos they always cut right before Stede moves his foot too, was kinda shocked about it cause this moment is just heart throbbing
Bro, I found out about this because of Tumblr and I'm so glad that not only does it depict pirates in an accurate light, but also they made sure that the LGBT representation would be good! I mean, it's a historical fact that pirates especially were VERY gay. Like gayer than any of us would ever understand. Hell, even the women were gay! _EVERYONE WAS GAY_ and I don't like how too many pirate movies/shows/books/etc. just choose not to show it because "dOn'T sAy GaY" (Sorry for the over-enthusiasm, I'm a historian and because I'm queer myself, I get very passionate about history and remaining historically accurate. Especially when it's about queer-ness)
@Stevean2 pirates, historically, were very much okay with gayness, as opposed to the homophobic society of the time. Hell, they even used to hold gay weddings on deck. Pirates were gay
@Stevean2 Yeah, when you don't have oppressors breathing down your neck, it's easy to be open. People were more open in ancient times as systematic homophobia had not developed yet, and pirates were just... pirates. They didn't care about obeying the law anyways.
@@nhantruong3771 en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matelotage Here’s the Wikipedia page. If you look up “pirates and homosexuality” there are a bunch of results that come up. There are even published books but they are behind paywalls.
i sure hope nothing bad ever happens to either of them. they probably both lived happy and long lives together, plundering and being in love and stuff and never getting separated.
The switches in this show, especially from Stede, from theatrical comedy acting into suddenly very quiet realistic acting hit so hard. They hit me right in my little chest
Ok but the part where Lucius tells Ed to stop being a gay disaster, open his eyes, and realize that Stede likes him is such a great part (also I love that Lucius is involved in everyone's relationship drama lmao)
As much as the ending made me sad (and Ed too), I am really interested in how Stede will handle a heartbroken Ed. My thought is that because Stede meant so much to Ed and Ed was very much in love with him (and vice-versa, but Stede realized/understood it a bit later), Ed will probably be upset/angry at Stede for a good portion, and may even go out of his way to avoid him ? (or possible angry confrontation?-maybe this could be cathartic for both of them to get everything they're feeling out there) and I really hope Stede is able to explain to Ed why he left/was gone for so long, and that he loves him, and I hope it's then filled with a bunch of fluff T-T. I know it is a romcom, so it'll probably have some happy ending for them, but it may also have angst (which I am also looking forward to- not just because I want to see more of heartbroken/angry Ed and how Stede reacts to this...) Anyway, just my thoughts, and I really need season 2 T-T
Yeah, the ending, though not ideal, is a perfect setup for a season 2. Most writers struggle to keep a romance interesting after a kiss and resort to cheap writing tricks, but this new Ed and new self sufficient Stede will have a richer dynamic in season 2
maybe we'll see how Ed reacts to the news of Stede's "death". I really hope that the creators of the show do not miss this opportunity, and Stede finds Ed AFTER he learns about his "death". This will most likely harden Ed even more, and he will regress even further into Blackbeard, trying to escape the pain. And then Stede finally finds him. I think Ed will be furious haha (I love angst too) I expect that by the time Stede finds him, Ed will have done a lot of terrible things, and Stede will have to somehow come to terms and accept that Ed has become a real Blackbeard, just like he is described in books
I love how after the kiss they whisper the whole rest of scene 😭 When you find love you don't want to scare it away so you coo quietly like you're trying to catch a rabbit
I'm so glad so many other people noticed Ed going to tap his boot against Stede's foot, then Stede lovingly rubbing Ed's boot back despite the situation. It's so wholesome despite everything that's going on around them and it hurts. It's probably my favorite moment of the series.
Often, in shows like this, where they wind up getting together, I'm always watching and thinking, 'They just seemed like friends to me , but ok'. But nope. No, there was clear interest in each other from the get-go. Obvious as daylight romantic tension. They really did a good job with all the little moments between them, and it's like the writers ACTUALLY UNDERSTOOD real romance. They could have just shoehorned it in. But they actually put the work into it.
okay but the way Stede gave Ed so much hope that he could just...be himself, be ED- and not HAVE to be Blackbeard or anything- he could be or do whatever he wanted, whatever made him happy around Stede- and with Stede gone, Ed feels like he HAS to go back to being Blackbeard because his hope is gone😭
His willingness to be so vulnerable when it comes to love is fucking beautiful. I can’t wait for Stede, now looking like a goddamn romantic hero, to go back to him and have to earn that love back.
I had no idea it was going to go all the way to romance... and omg it was such a relief that they didn't hold back. They just let this natural chemistry blossom.
That feel when you're watching the show and you don't see it coming and even when Lucius is like, "This is happening" you're like, "No! Are you sure??? No." and until the kiss happens you're more than half expecting it all to come to nothing and then it happens and then you finish the show and you're like, NOW I HAVE TO SEE THIS OVER FROM THE BEGINNING BECAUSE IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED AND I HAVE TO SEE IT OVER AGAIN KNOWING THAT!!! 😍😍😍 *Ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!*
The fact there's so many queer characters and everyone treats them normal makes me so so happy, the fact their love is considered normal even by Stede's (now ex) wife it means so much, and the tension slowly growing between them means so much to me I hope season 2 comes out soon
my favorite trope is the person who hasnt known a single second of peace or comfort and the other person who is just peace and/or comfort its wonderful and ofmd nailed it. im going to leap :D
Bruh halfway through this I stopped the video, downloaded HBO max and binged the entire thing in one night, thinking it would be a self-contained miniseries where they get a happy ending like good omens-- 😭😭😭
This show is so refreshing and romantic, I was enormously shocked when they kissed because I never expected their interactions to escalate from platonic attraction to literally kissing. As Taika said this show is about ROMANCE and not BROMANCE. It really makes justice to queer representation and I hope other shows like Good Omens step up to this level of undoubtedly love expressions
The “Oh my god, this is happening” was such a perfect line. It represents every one of us that is completely fed up with queer baiting being so happy that there’s such a real queer love story that actually pans out. I think the best part about that scene was that my “omg this is happening” moment was when he said it and not their conversation because I’ve gotten so used to queer baiting that I just shrugged it off. But that line coming from another character in a queer relationship really showed that the writers were not just baiting us, they were finally giving us what we really wanted. At least, that’s what it felt like for me…
Господи, на этой сцене я не выдержала и начала рыдать, как хорошо, что я посмотрела это шоу только сегодня, а не год назад, так как до 2 сезона осталось меньше двух месяцев🎉😢💔
I didn't notice until my 5th watch-through, that in the scene where he's in the pillow fort, when Ed lifts his head to look at Lucius, he actually has a tear running down his cheek.
It's almost outrageous how I instantly became attracted to Taika Watita when he showed up as Blackbeard. I didnt think I had a thing for pirates before but I guess I fucking do, shit.
May be otherthinking it but I like how Ed’s beard goes lighter and lighter with each episode, on his fist appearance it was a dark grey to black and the last time we saw it was a light grey, I think it kinda shows how he was distancing himself from his bad title.
I think my favourite thing about this is a video like this, you’d normally see for a popular fandom non canon ship and yet, THEYRE FUCKING GAY AND ITS CANON AND I WILL NEVER BE OVER THIS.
I'm more invested in 2 fictional characters' happines than in my own. I cannot move on from this show and it's been weeks since I watched it, HEEEEEELP
