This piece is quite unique in that it is both written by a very famous composer but rarely played, and it is a duet where trombonists are often asked to play with a partner rather than the trombonist asking them. This was also the case here, but we had great fun preparing and performing this piece!
We took some artistic liberty, playing it twice and adding some ornamentation. I hope you enjoy it!

This is a waste of talented performers. No wonder I'd never heard of this piece. This is music that only a repertoire-starved trombonist, and to a lesser extent double-bass players, looking for classical music legitimacy could value. If it weren't written by Elgar, no one would play it...ever, and for good reason. Play transcriptions of great music instead and tell those who protest to get stuffed. Great music will stretch your technique and more importantly too your musicianship much faster, far better, and far further simply for 'not' being written specifically to accommodate the current limitation or 'understanding' of the trombone's yet unexplored 'musical' and performance abilities.

Hi! You bring up some very curious points! You are absolutely right, trombone and double bass players alike are very starved for soloistic repertoire, and we have very few works by famous composers from over 100 years ago! From that perspective, I found it important to make this video, and we put in considerable work to make this piece of music sound as good and interresting as possible. Now it is here, for others to check out, and afaik, there are very few other ways to hear this music. The concept of this concert was to play original works featuring the double bass, so playing transcriptions was not an option. Finding works to transcribe which will work for these 2 instruments is quite a challenge too, but if you have some suggestions, maybe we will have a go at them!
