ELGAR.. what more is there to say! I love many of the great classical works from many of the world's greatest composers, but there is only one Sir Edward Elgar, when it comes to a variety of stirring, and emotional music that touches the soul. I'm an American, and an avid Elgarian, and I will always be.

My teacher used Elgar's music played on while we wrote our compositions. It helped us as a class. Once we were all settled then happy to write our thoughts. My mother and father were from England, Salcombe, and Conderton, then were living in Rosyth, Scotland due to the war It was our best record on the old record player that played so much imagination of the English countryside. Devon and Worcester I still hope one day I can walk in Elgar's country.

I love this documentary. There have been attempts to remove Land of Hope and Glory from the last night of the proms. It would be sacrilege.

It wasn't Pomp and Circumstance no 1 which made Elgar's name internationally it was Enigma Variations 2 years before. No mention is made of Enigma which is his most popular work (Classic FM Hall of fame).

Quite off the mark on some facts and I would have expected an actor of Simon Callow's stature to know how to pronounce "Aldeburgh". Elgar hated the words to Land of Hope and Glory, he was was torn by the 1st World War because he had good friends in Germany. In fact the Germans realised his greatness before the British. Nimrod was a musical depiction of his German friend, Augustus J. Jaeger.

Elgar was composing two decades before Vaughan Williams earliest works.

Handel worked for the Britts, but was from Prussia : NOT an ENGLISH composer ! Purcell was a "Great English compose" (and predated Handel's birth by about 25 years)... Get it right please !

that's an opinion, not a fact. Elgar IS a great composer that is richly loved here in San Francisco. The man expressed class and dignity something you'll obviously never possess

Elgar was nothing when compared to Gustav Holst. I found some of Elgar kind of boring but he does have some interesting works . Elgar is much better than Mozart .
