How apropos. I'm Greek-American, not Irish- American, but for some reason this charming song always makes me smile. It was a wonderful selection after a beautiful memorial.
@@pagosabob10 Only a real loser would post a comment like that under a funeral video. You have not only let yourself down, but also those who raised you.
Nice to hear the the great Irish tenor John McCormack singing once again. What's really impressive is that he died in 1945. The singer on this video is actually Canadian tenor John McDermott, just to set the record straight.
Beautiful. I'm actually sitting here crying. What a classic way to send off a fine old Irishman--who was also a great American patriot. Love that Mrs. Kennedy is singing with the crowd.
we must make sure his legacy lives on. It is most fitting that after his death from cancer we should work to pass a healthcare bill to help all of us suffering from illness and injury get the care and the peace of mind they deserve. Yes a great Irish man and a great American
I have always loved all the Irish songs because they always convey a story or they are so meaningful or they sing about the beauty of Mother Nature like " The Forty Shades of Green" and of course there are the patriotic songs also. The melodies are also tuneful and memorable.
Great finale to a wonderful memorial. Some lovely moments after the singing ended. At the 8:00 mark, Ed Schlossberg (front row, lots of white hair) leans into Caroline on his left (beige jacket), kisses the right side of her head, and says something tenderly to her. At the 9:00 mark, Tatiana Schlossberg puts her arms around her mother and hugs her. Lovely family. Jack and Jackie would have been so proud of them all.
+linda garden while the rest of the family went off to rape and murder people. caroline and her family are the only members of the entire family who aren't pos. Now we have a POS running for Governor of Illinois who says he's a Kennedy so he deserves to be Governor and shithead morons like you would vote for him.
I'm both Irish and a strict Catholic. I don't necessary agree with everything the Pope or the Church says (like most Catholics I think), but I don't believe anyone should push their beliefs on anyone else. Debate and discussion is healthy as long as we respect that not everyone should have the same beliefs as ourselves.
He was a great man and is missed by many including his state will miss him dearly. I grew up knowing about the Kennedy's even seen them marching in a Labor Day Parade once in Marlboro, Massachusetts they were well loved by my family and friends families. We Love you Kennedy's
No matter what any one says, THIS was a GREAT STATESMAN of America! As a child I recall the tag football games at West Hyannis Port, MA on our summer vacations.
+Angela Yargus-Carter What a wonderful comment.Whenever I think of this amazing family the images that come to mind are those such as you mentioned, the impromptu games of no holds barred touch football, to those of the three brothers singing songs such as ' heart of my heart, '... always,,..always making it a point to sing off key, then the sailing, wherein all involved are smiling and laughing,...and then naturally that of their devotion and ' sacrifice ' to public service. Ah Angela, so tempted to ask you to share a memory or two, but,...but in a sense you just did.
I find, as I go back in all history...any country, that men of POWER have one weakness...a HUGE amount of testesterone...and, they all fall short of keeping their equipment in their zippers. This is human frailty..even women possess it! What is important for our country is that when WORKING, all these men were extremely top statesmen...really rallied for their countries. That is the difference between STATESMEN and today's lousy politicians...Just my humble observations!
Memories...Sir, I am 80 years old...many wonderful memories of the Kennedy clan. No matter the stories about how driven old Joe was, or what happened to Rosemary...these are private family moments, at a time when medical RESEARCH was in its infancy. No man is perfect. We all struggle. I was a poor frailk, skinny little kid, spending the summers on Cape Cod, and I was just "looking in" at a wonderful happy bunch of "kids"..I wanted a moment of that, but knew, I would never experience it, when I was spied, and as I turned to run back up the beach, Teddy yelled, "Hey, come play with us!".
+Angela Yargus- There is no disputing your ' humble observations. ' As they say power is the ultimate aphrodisiac. President Kennedy perhaps had a few indiscretions, but one cannot help to notice that his presidency was one of the most transparent in history in that he was the first to authorize live press conferences, had a full time historian on staff, and essentially captured every moment of his presidency on film, tapes and dictabelt recordings. I find it ironic in that according to the latest books on Johnson, he is said to have had ' stables ' of secretaries that he had affairs with, in the oval office to that of air force one. And yet JFK is the one that is consistently mentioned on this subject.
Um........the guy who starts the song isn't either one of the tenors they mention. His name is Samuel Moscoso, a local tenor/performer here in Boston. He has a beautiful voice and also plays the piano. I wonder why they didn't credit him.
den22thecoat, My parents are proud of me. Thanks...I was never expelled from college & as a married man, I never drove off a bridge w/ a woman and swam to shore & ran to my attorney's office.
CORRECTION: It is JOHN McDERMOT who is singing with Colm Wilkinson - NOT John McCormick! McDermot formerly was for a time one of the three "Irish Tenors" with a beautiful voice.
The firsts Tenor Colm Wilkinson appropriately phrased the song and leveled the tempo for the occasion. It sounds sophisticated and deep in thoughts, strikingly impressive.
It would be wonderful if some of the slimy trolls that spend time composing posts that do nothing but try to tear down a dead man and his family would get a life and do something that might actually benefit their society. Oh but wait, that might be too difficult for them, given their obvious limitations. I guess that might be too much to expect.
THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO BE THERE AFTER WHAT HE DID IT ALMOST MAKES ME ASHAMED TO BE IRISH BUT I GUESS BIG MONEY CHANGES EVERYTHING REST IN PEACE MARY JO
There is very little about Kennedy's life that deserves admiration from a spiritual or moral point of view. He was probably the worse example of a Catholic statesman.
+TheOneTrue. Your bitter hatred tells us nothing except that you are an unhappy person. Happy people never have your level of bitterness in their hearts. For your own sake please get help.
Sorry but having seen John McDermott in concert many times I can assure you that is not he. That is John MCCormick. Geez, do you really think they would announce the wrong person? Good grief, they don't even sound alike.
Well, have a good rest Teddy. I didn't agree with you much, but you were entertaining. "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" indeed. How about another Sc-aa-ch, neat yes, Old Son?
Oh for God's sake... let it go!!! He was a flawed human being, that he admitted. There is not a man or woman on this earth that hasn't made a mistake, you included. But just take a look at what he has done, check it out, he is directly responsible for many bills that make life better for a great many americans, you included. He said himself, Atonement never ends and he worked until his dying day. Move on, let it be, it is now between Ted Kennedy and his God.
Its too late for the priviledged senator from MA to have redemption. Lets hope we get a Republican elected to his seat on 1/19/10...that's what I call redemption!
Kyle. Wrong, Joe Jr died in the war. And he was not a piece of crap; his voting was always for the underdog. OK, he he didn't see that little bridge went to the left in the dark---a mistake anyone could make. (And there was nothing wrong with him and Mary Jo going to the beach for little fun either).
plainoldkris, what did you get your degree in? Political science?... from the kennedy school of cover-ups? Did they have pay phones in Chappaquidick? A Senator who graduated from Harvard Law School, drives off a bridge, he knowingly left the scene of an accident...why didn't he knock on someones door to call the police?? Don't be a fool, Kris.
Are you "most" of those privledged Americans who would leave the scene of a fatal accident and report directly to your lawyer? Listen my independent thinker, most people who get into auto accidents, plainoldkris, From the looks of your response, I know you didn't major in English @ Univ of MI. Slappy? Is that a Midwest word? You are quite the intelligent type, aren't you? get help and REMAIN on the scene. To survive in this world, you need to have some kind of a degree of common sense.
Yes, he did leave teh secene of an accident! Hard to say what most of us would od in that situation. And I'm not a Democratic slappy, I just am a truth slappy. Sir, forgive me, but I'm going to make a generalization about you. I'm certain you were a great fan of Reagan, would that be correct? I'm certain you're republican, and don't get me started about crimes done against others from that party. Christian Right MY ASS! Christ called us to love the poor, Republicans could care less.
Cod Irish....................appalling rubbish --- ooh is that harsh? Well, try this - a vulnerable woman died and he did nothing to save her. Hey, US - your heroes, eh? They're a different calibre, ain't they?
Your bitterness tells us nothing other than that you have deep hatred in your heart. No-one knows for certain what happened. Let it go. And see a professional to deal with that hatred you are carrying. You can't be happy and hate-filled all at the same time. Just some free advice.
