I always felt like the war veteran telling Edward not to let anyone tell him that he has a handicap actually had genuine empathy for Edward. Nearly everyone else in the neighborhood was a jerk.
Then joyce accused him of rape later and everyone just believes it. That's the thing about this movie. His demeanor is completely meek and mild and everyone's just oblivious.
Except that’s Joyce not Peg n she’s a chronic pain in the ass she makes passes at guy left n right when she sees Edward she just wants him in the worst sort of way n later when she tries to make a move on him he walks away from her without touching her n she spreads word around that he raped her the bitch
Also Peg, no matter what she always cared about him. Edward’s relationship with her is very underrated, she was the best mother figure he could’ve had.
Edward reminds me so much of Victor Frankenstein’s monster. They are both so sweet and childlike and would’ve been such wonderful beings and then humanity destroyed them. Funny how Edward and the creature aren’t even ‘regular’ people and both still had more kindness in their hearts than the actual ‘real’ humans themselves. I love emotion filled movies and tend to lean towards war movies, psychological thrillers and dark comedies. Not many movies can break my heart the way Edward Scissorhands does. I know it’s a simple PG13 movie but it’s too realistic in the way society treats those who are different. They’re either used by society or mocked and then once everyone’s does with them they’re cast aside like nothing. I think the saddest thing about Edward Scissorhands is that he lost everything twice. First his father the inventor. Then the Boggs family. He got a glimpse of what love was like and then it was ripped away. I often find myself upset imagining how Edward ends up spending the rest of his life completely alone, only with memories of being loved and to never be loved again. And it wasn’t even his fault.
In all reality no one really cared for Edward, peg did, but he was more of a project for her, she wanted to care for him, but even she didn't know what she was doing when she brought Edward into the neighborhood, she treated him like nothing more than a lost puppy. Kim only ending up loving him out of guilt and Jim being an asshole and everyone else was just terrible to him,it shows that sometimes even though it sucks it's better to be alone and focus of finding your own purpose in life rather than be what everyone else wants you to be or to just become an introvert who doesn't mind being alone and finds true happiness in it. 😂
@@alexandermase8622 I completely agree with all of this, and I’m the same. Though it’s sad, sometimes being alone is better than being with people, the world is so messed up like that lmao
2:14 edward is facking adorable but i do feel bad for johnny this was filmed in florida, and we all know how H O T it can get there, and johnny had to wear all day long this skin tight bodysuit made of leather, Tim burtons sofa, had many layers to it, and it was everything but breathable, and also in summer in the bright sun without any protection whatsoever so imagine already how hot its in that, and then he needed to film a shot many many times and in some of the scenes he had to even eat, for example in this one and since i don't think he even liked the food that much so he threw up many times while they were filming i mean like come on, to go through that pain but still not wanting to let go of the character, like he could have avoided the hell he was going through but he didn't
I wonder if some parts of this scene were improvised. Anyway, it's so cute how Edward seems to like Joyce, and takes that whole huge bite of whatever that pink nonsense blech food is.
It's ambrosia salad. A 50s dish made with cream, walnuts, coconut, mini marshmallows, pineapple, fruit cocktail and marishino cherries. To make it pink, add in a bit of cherry juice.
One thing I notice about this film is that a lot of people promise Edward that they can help him with his hands and they have a doctor friend who can possibly get him hands. And yet every time there is no follow-through
Let him get the food down before giving him more huge spoon fulls, man, it's like that part in the Grinch. How could he have room for all that in his mouth.
Been a fan since day one, but honestly: How come can Edward eat if he`s got no digesting system developed (as far as we know) and worse, he cannot even possibly wipe his own.... ? We didn`t think of these matters back then in the 90`s.
Actually, it’s worse, because it’s mentioned the inventor DID make him with everything a human had except for hands, so he probably does have a digestive system of sorts...just try not to think about it.
Joyce is my favourite in the entire movie. She is very stylish and pretty. I’ve not watched Edward Scissorhands in (god knows how long), but I may have to watch it again just to see her. 😍
I do love Edward Scissorhands, but I also love Johnny Depp in other Tim Burton Movies, like Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the chocolate factory and Sleepy Hollow!

This scene literally SCREAMS “Florida hospitality”. Anyone differing from the norm gets extra attention and patronizing sympathy… at the very worse you’ll get old people hitting on you…
