Crushing French victories in Cocherel,Patay and Castillon were overlooked in favor of Agincourt,Crecy and Poitiers.France still emerge as the the victor in the end.

You're absolutely right that the battles of Cocherel, Patay, and Castillon were significant French victories that are often overshadowed by the more famous English victories at Agincourt, Crécy, and Poitiers. Each of these battles played a crucial role in the Hundred Years' War and the eventual French victory. Cocherel (1364) was a key victory for Bertrand du Guesclin, which helped solidify Charles V's position in France. Patay (1429) was a major victory for Joan of Arc and the French, turning the tide after the siege of Orléans and leading to the coronation of Charles VII. Castillon (1453) effectively ended the Hundred Years' War with a decisive French victory, resulting in the English losing almost all their possessions in France. While English victories like Agincourt, Crécy, and Poitiers are often highlighted due to their dramatic nature and impact on English morale, it’s important to recognize that the overall trajectory of the war saw France regaining territory and ultimately emerging victorious. The French strategic and tactical adaptations, along with their significant victories, indeed led to their triumph in the end. Thank you for pointing that out!

The expedition to help Pedro was in 1367, not 1376. He won another victory against a much larger army.

Hey James, you‘re absolutely right. Sorry for the twist in numbers. Your comment is correct. The Black Prince's expedition to help Pedro the Cruel (Pedro I of Castile) occurred in 1367, not 1376. This expedition culminated in the Battle of Nájera (also spelled Navarrete), where the Black Prince led an English army to support Pedro I in reclaiming his throne from his half-brother, Henry of Trastámara. In this battle, Edward won a decisive victory against a larger Franco-Castilian force, showcasing his military prowess once again. The victory at Nájera was significant but also costly, and it ultimately led to financial and health problems for the Black Prince in the following years. Thank you very much again for your comment!

That was good. Thank you. My only grouse is the image at 0:40, it looks rather Napoleonic to me. 🙂

Thanks for the feedback! Maybe the Black Prince was just ahead of his time in fashion. Or perhaps Napoleon borrowed some style tips from him! 😂 We'll keep an eye on those anachronistic images! Thanks again and I hope to see you again in the comment section 😀

The Black Prince, Edward of Woodstock, was not known for wearing only black armor. His nickname, "The Black Prince," is believed to have derived from the blackened armor he sometimes wore or possibly his emblem, which included black elements. However, historical records indicate that his armor and heraldic colors varied, and he was not exclusively clad in black. The exact origin of the nickname remains a subject of debate among historians.
