Omg, I had no idea that Rick Hinderer was acting so dishonorably! Not sure if I'll ever buy another one of his blades, after seeing this! But since I bought my two Gen6 XM-18 3.5's, AND the rest of the custom hardware before this controversy, I will be keeping them.
Yes I can back that 100% AWESOME customer service from TRM, they helped me out with shipping (accidentally made 2 separate orders), threw in a keychain and helped me out with knowing when the next drop was. Great new-ish USA company

From your video I would assume that the hinderer vs transparent knives lawsuit was won by hinderer knives? That's a shame if it's true. Do you know has hinderer improved their heat treat ?
I unfortunately have been out of the game a little bit. I do not know the outcome but I would guess many don't as I'm sure there's alot of nondisclosures involved. As far as improving heat treat, I also do not know officially but I would guess they wouldn't. M390 20cv is hard to heat treat right and hinderer probably can't or won't absolve the cost either way.

There are literally 100’s of knife brands carried by DOZENS of stores….you’re exactly right, customer service is KEY!! It sucks when designers/companies get smug….but we have so many options! I finally switched from the Sage 1….carrying the Kizer T1 micarta.

Kizer I believe is made in China and if you don't know China has been putting Uyghur people in labor camps forcibly (forced sterilization has happened to Uyghur women by the Chinese government) and the Chinese government has also been participating in forced organ harvesting, so given the so many options in the knife community as you've said, I think having a knife from an ethical US knife company is better than having a knife from a Chinese knife company (note that I did not lump up Taiwan with China)
Problem is kizer doesn't represent China nor does hinderer represent America. If one chooses to buy American over China due to national pride more power to you. If you choose to not buy any Chinese knives due to circumstances you described above more power to you. If you choose to highroad people, more power to you. And if I choose not to respect single minded individuals who take things like national pride to the extreme. @@EEDC materials, build quality, and US manufacturing alone make it an insane value, but I think what I like most about it is that Hogue heard the customer on their first release of Magnacut in the Deka and went back to the drawing board on their heat treat and got it right 👍🏻 Customer service at its best….literally the opposite of others mentioned in this video 😉

@@EEDC it was chewed up a little bit. It had the factory edge still. I used it for another week before I had time 2 sharpen it. It was still cutting. Not nearly as well as you or myself would like an edge 2 be.oh and it was the newer version in s45. I have a couple spartans in s35 and one in xhp. They do an amazing heat treat. After getting my first couple spartan blades s35 became my favorite steel.

I was so disappointed in Hinderer Knives when I heard about all of this. I have 14 knives from them, and don't plan to sell them. But I also don't plan on getting any more from them. I like the product, but what Rick did is just wrong. If anything, he should be countersued for false advertising by every single person out there with a knife having subpar heat treat from him.
Yeah, I'm different when it comes to selling his stuff off and by no means am I advertising that people should sell em. But for me, it was such a disgusting act that it made me look at my favorite knife in way, that i just couldn't anymore lol! Thanks for watching brotha, keep up being the best part of our community!

My opinions are meant more for entertainment purposes . . To each their own brotha and to be fair I love their knives. Honestly they are badass. For me, there are plenty of badass knives out there thankfully that allow me to stick to my own internal principles. No judgement here man!
I’m not a fan of Rick either. His groups on Facebook are run by Nazis, your opinion is always wrong according to him and to top it off my Project X Magnacut had the worst heat treat of ANY knife I’ve ever owned, and ive owned thousands of knives. I could NOT get a good edge on that knife no matter what, wicked edge, paper wheels, hand sharpening etc. the bur just would never go away it was so soft. I had to sell it at a huge loss.
I agree and disagree with this video. I love everything that you said but I do think there should be a point where company should be able to do what they do and produce things the way they weren’t too. If Rick hinderer wants to produce blades at a lower Rockwell hardness then he can do so. And we can discuss it freely. But I do agree with you he shouldn’t be causing a legal battle. I am in the camp of letting companies do what they want as long as it doesn’t cause human harm. Rick will have my business I just picked up an XM 18. But my knife steel needs are not as critical as others.. Great video thank you so much for making it!

I don't expect them to do what we say by any means, if they did companies would be broke lol, but they need to have some thick skin and listen to feedback. Lol as someone who's been attempting youtube for almost 3 years, I can tell you in my very small bubble I get TONS of critics some constructive some destructive lol but it comes with the territory ya know? Listening doesn't mean "do what I say" but it at least let's you know what your market is looking for ya know? I love the hinderer designs man I've held several different models and owned several, but I value customer service more than anything and this ties into it FOR ME lol doesn't mean everyone feels the same. I completely agree. But ,the problem is trying 2 shut people up when they talk about it. That's some dirt bag shit. I won't buy his knives again. Well,I have only bought one . I would have got more eventually. I stick with spartan ,Medford and protech. Microtech was one of my favorite knife companies. They started acting like dirt bags 2. 🤷🏼♂️ Oh well. I think it's super cool that the kid is standing his ground and super embarrassing on hinderers end to do this. hinderer tried to discredit his ability to test hrc saying it was a trained skill and he didn't have a metallurgy degree.... I've personally used an hrc machine and you DO NOT need anything else other than common sense and a little bit of training (which can be learned on your own lol)
Wacko or not, he's doing hrc tests on different grades from an objective standpoint. He's taken his precursor data from knifesteelnerds. Even if you don't like him, objectively he's absolutely correct. Makers don't want harder steels because it costs more in the annealing or "heat treat process" and it also costs more in tooling due to usually having to grind a harder material. This hurts their pockets. Our community has grown so much since hinderer came out, thats its not wrong of him to run it softer, but ignoring the community and worse yet, prosecuting someone speaking factually for doing so.... thats the part i take issue with. So blindly saying Brian Is a nut job because your a hinderer fan boy, just leaves the blinders on. No different than not giving a damn if your government is telling you one thing but doing another (obviously on a larger scale). Not trying to be preachy and it's ok to still like hinderer, not my point here. Just don't ignore facts
