The hospital, pediatric world is different like he mentioned. I work pediatrics now. I enjoy it as we are growing our EMU. That world isn't as mundane as outpatient. Each has pros and cons. I enjoy pediatric/hospital world but you will also need a great support team or system to keep going.

I graduated as a NDT last year 2023. I live in CA in the small town of Menifee, it took me a year to find a job and its more of a vender job, pay is very good, I love being a Neurodiagnostic Technologist and I never get bored of doing my job. However, the driving is brutal and very frustrating. It took me 18 months to graduate and I finished it with an Associate of Science degree.

I just wanted to say thank you so much for this video!!! Im currently soul searching as you would say lol and it's been really hard getting into the medical field without experience. Im a new graduate phlebotomist and its been rough cause i dont have experience and i dont want to do nursing since thats not my passion and i have absolutely no time for more than a year of school since i need to work full time. Anyways, im really considering EEG cause of your videos and its so interesting to me. I appreciate it! Keep up the great work 🙏

Hey I appreciate your feedback! I found EEG 5 years ago after some soul searching & hating my last job. I liked that it was only 1 year of school, and most of the time was spent in the hospital with hands-on learning. If you have any questions about EEG feel free to reach out any time, I’m happy to help!

@jaredbeckwith I have a question. Is it possible at all for a Registered EEG technologist to make $30,000 A MONTH......not per year but per month. I know someone who is a technician who is supposedly training to be a technologist and she said in Texas she can make $30,000 a month. I was just curious if she is telling the truth or not. She also isn't going to college or anything. Apparently the doctor she works with is paying for her to get her certification but she isn't in actual college. What are your thoughts??

@jaredbeckwith

I know experienced EEG techs who make $10k/month on travel contracts which is about the max. I’ve never heard of $30k/month, I’d be highly skeptical of that. It is true though that you don’t need a college degree, and can learn on the job to be an EEG tech.

Jared, this was very helpful!!! Thank you. I have been looking for this mannequin head you are using here. Do you know where I can buy this? I bought a mannequin head from Amazon, but it is to practice make up and hair, and the head is much smaller than actual human head.

Hi! How hard is this schooling? I am not dumb, its just that i do not exactly like school but what to do more for myself.
@jaredbeckwith
@jaredbeckwith 6 месяцев назад
Hey schooling isn’t nearly as hard as becoming a doctor. It’s only 1 year a lot of the time and mostly hands on in the hospital learning how to put wires on the patient. I think you’d be fine 😊
@b4nkai

Hey jared im 6 months into my program and will be working with patients in 2, im a HUGE introvert and have problems explaining tests. How would you explain HV and PV to a patient? Like before and during it. 😭
@jaredbeckwith
@jaredbeckwith 5 месяцев назад
Before photic you can have the patient relax and open/close their eyes 2 times for 10 seconds. This tests reactivity of the background, appearing with eyes closed. Then tell them you’re going to show them a flashing light for a few minutes. Turn off the lights. Have them close their eyes during photic. For HV tell them to take deep breaths in and out quickly for 3 minutes. On HV you can let them know when they’re halfway done, and 30 seconds left. If near the end of HV there is epileptic activity, you should test the patient’s consciousness by giving them a code word to remember during the discharges. Then after HV I try to have them sleep for the rest of the test. Just try to say the same things every time, and you will be fine!

@jaredbeckwith
@jaredbeckwith 4 месяца назад
I have some friends that started in EEG and moved to IONM since it’s similar. Since you already know you want to do IONM, I would skip EEG. You should learn “evoked potentials,” both motor and somatosensory to monitor surgeries.
@HiddenLeaf101
@HiddenLeaf101 4 месяца назад
@@jaredbeckwith Thanks! But would it hurt me in the long run if I skipped EEG and went straight into school for IONM? I live in NY and there’s a lack of EEG jobs. The hospital I work at doesn’t require eeg techs on site full time. Only EEG tech travelers. Plus, the pay is low. The most I’ve ever seen an EEG make out here is between 68-79k and that’s rare. The usual pay rate is between $25-$30. IONM’s are making $40+ hour out here! Seems like IONM’s are more in high demand than EEG’s.
@jaredbeckwith
@jaredbeckwith 4 месяца назад
@@HiddenLeaf101 if you know you want to do things like monitor the nervous system during spine surgeries and make more money then I would skip EEG. If you’re interested in recording the brain and epilepsy then do EEG. Both jobs in good demand but doing surgeries definitely pays more.

The one year of college for about 14-20k with 50k-70k (if one decides to travel like I do)… not a bad deal tbh. Got in with 1 year experience. I am now at Stanford LPCH practicing and this place is AMAZING.

You technically don’t need to be registered to do EEGs. I’ve had a friend that skipped traditional EEG school and just got paid to learn on the job. It might be a little lower like $20/hr to start, but it’s better than unpaid schooling. I’d try to do that first with your hospital. If not, you can always do clinicals with a college 1 year unpaid.

First I made a list of all the hospitals in my area and got the EEG department contact info. Your college should be able to help you secure it once you have the contact info.
